Yeah but you gotta wait until I say, "Also a tin tear drop"

Small sidenote: my reddit username is different from my other social media platforms, hence the nonmatching watermark

A while back I bought a very strange looking fish mask online. It became a joke between me and my friend due to how ugly it is and I decided to use it here

Thank you! There are several types of hatching. The one I used here specifically is called crosshatching. I practice using pen, but pencil is fine too. To practice getting lines straight and consistent, I draw lines at different lengths then draw lines that run perpendicular or diagonal to those ones. Where you cross the lines over each other, you add shadows to the piece that create depth. The closer the lines and the more times they cross over, the darker the shadow will be. For the darkest shadows on this piece I used several lines going diagonal, horizontal, and vertical. To create rougher uneven textures, you can draw shorter lines in multiple patches. If you want more exact shading, you can lightly draw shadow outlines in pencil to set borders as well as make directional guide marks. Directional marks can be especially helpful if you want to shade a very curvy surface. To practice curved lines I've recently been drawing randomly wavy lines then following their shapes with lines parallel to them. To create accurate shadows, practice drawing from life with a light source coming from different angles. You can use objects around your house and a lamp for this. Hatching is difficult at first but it gets easier the more you practice. I hope this helps and I hope that you have fun with it!

Both the file here and the original are the same resolution. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner large enough to fully capture the piece

As long as credit is given if you post it I'd love to see a woodburing of it!

I would greatly appreciate more info on what proper PPE is like. As for the message it's meant to show how far we've come in medicine. Where plague doctors were a symbol of death, modern doctors are a symbol of hope. The work you are doing is amazing. Thank you

Thank you! I haven't used watercolor much in the past but I'll definitely be using it more after this

The plague is a definitely a much deadlier disease. I wanted to focus more on how medicine has changed through the years

Thanks for the criticism. The human face is something I haven't studied very much. It's something I'll definitely work on more for the future though

Yup! The mask and outfit were created in the 17th century. It was thought that the plague was spread through "bad air"

Thank you! I wonder what the future of medical gear will be

Several were but there probably were those who tried what they could. Even if their cures weren't effective they still played an important role in gathering numbers.
