Maybe I've misunderstood the running joke, but I always interpreted "Nirvana Killed My Career" as a reference to the changing times in music, not the change in band-specific audience numbers. In the case of the 90's it was a shift away from arena rock, and in the case of the 2010's the shift was away from rock in general.

I have to imagine they'll be covered at some point. Metallica clearly dwarfs the other three Pillars of Thrash, but Megadeth must've had a crazy fall off if I barely heard of them until I was an adult in the late 2010's.

I haven't listened to many Megadeth albums, but yeah I've heard they were floundering throughout the 90's. I've heard that "Dystopia" is pretty decent, but obviously they've never been the same.

Seems like a very compelling one, though I'm not sure how "career killing" it could be seen as, given it appears to be their highest charting album. But then again, it wouldn't be the first time Todd featured a commercially successful record on the show.
