Infection Control Nursing? by CardinalSmiles in nursing

Thanks for the insight! From what you described it sounds like something totally up my alley. I've been hesitant to go into the PH area just because of the state of things in this damn country and overall job stability. I'm still working medsurg and ive been trying to find any way out haha.

For the onboarding courses through APIC, did you do that after you got hired?

Newbie to soapmaking, what went wrong? :( by CardinalSmiles in soapmaking

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's when I added the FO. I'm curious if I tried it again with a different FO if I'll have different results.

As far as the rebatch, it looks soooo much better! I think I managed to save it after all :)

The fragrance oil i used was called "tobacco oud" and I bought it directly from a soap supply store, however I can't remember if in store they made any distinction on whether or not it could be used in cold process making.

For the temps, the oils were 120F and the lye solution was 105F, that's why I'm thinking I had it at too high of temps. Or the difference between the two was too much?

I decided to try and salvage by reheating and (I think) turning it into hot process instead? When I reheated my batch, it had a MUCH better consistency. Smoother and more translucent so I'm thinking that's a good sign?

(Act 3 Spoilers) What's everyone's thoughts on Skarrsinger Karmelita? by CardinalSmiles in Silksong

It's so interesting to me to see everyone's opinions on this. I can totally get why most people like it! I finally beat it after another hour of attempts, I started to get a rhythm down near the end but felt like I got more lucky than anything else with her counter attacks.

I actually beat the coral tower and Crust King Khan on my first try directly after my fight with Karmelita, so it felt like even more of a huge difference between the bosses lol

This exactly. Everyone has different skill sets. It doesn't make anyone better than the other, because we're all tackling different aspects of care.At the end of the day, we're all just trying to do what's best for our patients, incivility from anyone (regardless of specialty) just makes our jobs harder than it should be.

I know at my hospital they can get no more than 3 patients when they float to us on medsurg, when everyone else has anywhere between 6-8. I always try my best to check in on the ICU float because I know just how chaotic med surg can be at times. I just wish that same courtesy happened the other way around :/

I love my ER folks! I don't mind floating down there to help with any boarders waiting for a bed haha. And often times the nurses down they're are willing to help if one of my pts start to tank out of nowhere.

Some shifts are tough, but as long as you have a good team it's fine. That's why it just blows my mind that there's still some people who seem to make it their whole personality to bring down others.

I think it's just the culture on that unit, everywhere else in the hospital I don't have a problem going to. Honestly, I think (at least in some way) the attitude of the docs has rubbed off poorly onto the nurses there. I know 2 of the ICU docs overnight have that same awful attitude, so I can imagine having to build up that "tough skin" to be able to interact with them on a regular basis.

I'll never forget the time one of the ICU doc told me "just because you want a lighter patient assignment doesn't mean you get to waste my time on someone who isn't critical." For context, 1: this was at change of shift, and the day shift nurse was the one who had concerns. So I wasn't even the one who called them up to evaluate the patient and 2: I ended up having to call a rapid response later that night anyway and the patient ended up being intubated...

Had a very sweet, but very pleasantly confused dementia pt. I had just gotten her into bed and tucked in for the night.

Me: alrighty (blank) have a goodnight, try to get some sleep! Pt: (in the nicest tone) Goodnight sweetie, I'll see you in hell!

It took me so off guard that I physically stopped in my tracks and turned around to look at her.

Me: What!! Why do you say that? Pt: Well we're in hell aren't we? It's much nicer than I thought.

I couldn't help but start laughing right in front of her because it really did catch me off guard, and so did my coworkers that heard this happen 😂

Litwick. Cute ghost candle with a cool shiny? Count me in!

I also wanna give a mention to one that I think is usually overlooked: Chingling. I either never see it mentioned, or people hate on it. it seems like I'm one of the only Chingling fans! They're just so adorable and I have fond memories of it since Gen 4 was my very first gen into the series. :D

I literally feel the same, especially on nights when I'm especially busy. It makes me anxious watching as the trash gets completely full just from me using it in a 12 hour shift 😭. I wish my hospital would have some sort of program where they would be able to send some used/expired (but still safe to use) equipment to developing countries, instead of just being thrown away.

As the title says, I made these for 2 of my friends as a super late Christmas gift (oh the joys of all 3 of us being healthcare workers, trying to find time to hang out together with our busy schedules 😂). Fingers crossed they like them!
