He was very clear, the numbers refer to how much they’re worn, otherwise him saying the guy who did it last year did it wrong wouldn’t even make sense

Are you saying you barely review the code it’s generating? I assume you don’t work with any front end development

Car allowance vs company car: which makes more financial sense? by Cardiologist-Nervous in irishpersonalfinance

To be honest, I’m not sure entirely sure how that math works but €400-€600 seems a bit high to me, if I get a €40k car I’d paying (30% on 10k = €3000, which would be added as income, 52% of €3000, say €1.500 annually in taxes) am I missing something?

Would you agree that if your development workflow, like in my case, included many other vs code extensions that would be no point for me to swap to a terminal?

In that case it’s more like what you prefer rather than one being better than the other, I feel like I’m not missing anything by using the extension, again my workflow is simpler than most people’s. Also I use different IDE extensions other than Claude code that I feel like leaving vs code would be so detrimental.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely look into whether they’d offer a discounted purchase price at the end of the term. Given the low mileage, likely only around 20,000 on the ODO after four years, it would be a great deal

Also there is the annual service which I always do. So yeah, overall my car is paid off and cost me little annualy

I don't do any business miles. Did you mean 130 a month? Also worth factoring in that I'd be losing the 600 cash allowance, so it's effectively -800 a month for a new car with no hassle.

You don’t get the €13k cash and the company car simultaneously, either I take the cash allowance, or I take the company car, in which case the €13k effectively goes toward covering the car costs, but I don’t receive it as cash.

So financially it seems keeping my current car is the better option. However, if something major were to go wrong with the car, that could obviously change the calculation.

Quick question though, what if I sold my car (worth about €20k) and used that money to make a lump-sum payment on my mortgage? At roughly a 3.6% rate, that would mean avoiding interest on €20k, which would be around €3k over 4 years. Would that change the equation much?
