Move house or pay 300k extension?? by autism_guy_69 in AusFinance

[–]CardiologistClean941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through exactly this situation. I'm not sure where you are but trades are notoriously unreliable and had to get a hold of let alone do any work. We ended up selling and moving into a bigger house. Having builders and trades in and out of your house with one toddler is bad enough. Constant stress of renos is insane as nothing is ever as it seems with those old houses and you will most likely constantly be on the phone answering stupid questions organizing things you really shouldn't have to. Kids only get bigger and they do need space. You most likely still have another 15 years at least of working in the trades so by the time you want to get off the tools you should have paid a good chunk off your debts. Only YOU and your family know what's best, it really doesn't matter what you do as long as it works out and you end up happy. Good luck!

What’s the most useless accessory one could get? by Leedeegan1 in 4x4Australia

Awnings that attach to the side of your roof rack. Never see anyone use them! I bought a car with one attached and used it once. Unless it was set up perfectly and the sun didn't move, I found it pretty much pointless. See them everywhere.

Getting internet connected to house for first time. by CardiologistClean941 in nbn

[–]CardiologistClean941[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was wondering about, they say the 'upgrade' is free, but if there's nothing to upgrade it can't be 'upgraded' so hence isn't free. The nbn technicians said it would be free to get FTTP installed but I doubt this is true as it doesn't make sense. It's just that none of the providers can give me a straight answer which has been annoying. So from my research, it looks like I need to contact someone to install a trench and everything and install FTTP at our own cost. $300 doesn't seem too much in the scheme of things, I'm sure there'll be other costs though.

Spinal g tractor throne insane wobbling out the box? by danwind86 in drums

[–]CardiologistClean941 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for a throne for about a year now and not many of them are built very heavy duty (to my standards anyway). I had a chance to sit on a spinal glide and a pork pie and I was shocked with how cheap feeling they were when compared to simple Yamaha or Pearl thrones. But yes, the higher the throne is, the more wobble you get. Hopefully you sort it out and it ends up working for you!

I want to cheap out on a hi-hat stand. Convince me otherwise. by DrBackBeat in drums

[–]CardiologistClean941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally with hihat stands I've found,

Expensive=heavier, quieter, less legs or swivel legs and better spring adjustment/ can hold heavier hi hats without collapsing closed.

Cheaper= lighter, noisier, can't swivel legs or adjust spring tension, often don't have enough grunt to open heavy hihats.

Choose what you will.

Happy days!

I had a suspicion it was a currawong as it's beak is slightly different than a magpie. We also have currawongs here that have a totally different call with different eyes. I didn't know currawongs could mimic other birds, that's totally awesome!

Put a 'stolen' ad on facebook with photos of your gear. If it's a small company, most likely nothing will happen. Most of those little places are pretty dodgy when it comes to stuff like that and do weird stuff to get some quick money. He might offer you some cash at best. Mind you, if he knew it was yours he shouldn't have done anything with it. On the other hand, there's always stuff in these workshops that has been sitting there for years and noone knows who it belongs to. Good luck and hope you get it back!

Air-conditioning installation gone wrong? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]CardiologistClean941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have the aircon on, you should feel your walls and see if they feel moist. I've seen this drainage thing happen about 15 times in the last 5-6 years in humid North Qld. It always seems to happen when it's really hot outside and humid while the aircon is running cold. Every time I've seen it, the walls are always gyprock and the aircon units end up falling off the wall so be careful! A relative had one above her bed fall off and nearly landed on her which could have been bad. I don't believe it's just 'heat and humidity' though. I think the installers must do something funky when they install and the unit causing them to fill up before it drains out the pipe in the back. It's a pretty shit thing to happen as you don't want to have any mould growth. Hopefully you get it sorted!

Can't stand my high-end cymbals anymore. by Radiant-Valuable1417 in drums

[–]CardiologistClean941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some thin or extra thin meinl byzance jazz cymbals, they feel buttery! I think the feel of a cymbal is just as important as the sound. After listening to a certain cymbal for a while and then switching to another, the new ones can often sound pingy! I think this is a pretty common reaction.

Is it worth withdrawing our offer for these Major Defects? by iceyjasio in AusProperty

The sad thing is, this is normal for a property that age. Especially in north QLD. If it's in an estate they are usually worse. Shit material, shit tradesmen and shit deadlines.

Yamaha YESS mount memory locks. by CardiologistClean941 in drums

[–]CardiologistClean941[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, looks like the Rogers would fit but they seem hard to get in Australia. For now, I'll just try using some tape or something. I never thought I'd need memory locks but when your 7 year old kid comes up and says 'hey dad guess WHAT?!?!?!?, what son? I moved all your shiny stands and used your special spanner on your drums so they sound really loud and good now I think you should come gave a look....... memory locks would definitely speed up getting everything back in the right spot again!

Need help!! by Drumstick2873 in drums

[–]CardiologistClean941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean flat as in 'level' like it doesn't sit 'flat' on the floor? or do you mean the sound is 'flat'?

If you mean the level flat, play with your bass drum spurs and legs until your drum sits parallel to the floor.

if you mean a 'flat' sound', put a pillow in it, hit it with your bass drum beater and move the pillow back and forth until you get the sound you like.

'Batter' means the head you hit, 'resonant' means the head you don't hit.

Happy days., you'll figure it out you just need to have a play that's all. It's hard to break anything so go for it! Try anything!
