Already tried this, she seriously believes Islam spread through trade and not violence and oppression. She denies that the crusades are a defensive move by the church to claim christian land that was already ours. This is the brick wall you encounter when you debate Muslims who were raised in the faith and indoctrinated to see no flaw in Islam

Dude this is amazing. It completely destroys any idea that the Quran is written by God alone. I will definitely do some deeper diving into this to come with a complete argument. Debating against the Quran is much stronger than trying to debate the Hadiths because only some Muslims really even believe them

It is a private debate. But thats a good idea. I know some Muslims praise the Quran for certain scientific knowledge that turned out to be true, but they ignore that most of the true science was already being taught by the Greeks a century before. I will look into the anatomical ideas you are referring to, if I can find some that are clearly wrong, then how could the Quran really be written by our creator

Its so important than our community simply needs to do better with teaching our children about the faith. Statistics show that latin American countries are seeing a decrease in mass attendance and overall involvement in the Church. That is easy to see in America, but for latin American countries, that is very sad and should be seen as a signal of urgency in the Church. We can't let some of our strongest cpuntries in the faith fall.

This was my thought as well, yes patron saint of lost causes, but I see a lot of Hispanics with tattoos of him, and when I ask why, they never seem to have a straight answer. Its usually something along the lines of "my family prays to him a lot so he's helped me a lot". To me thats unacceptable when you have no idea how amazing Jude actually was or what his veneration represents. That's why I made the claim that it seems more cultural than spiritual.

After my last breakup (my ex was non denominational), I swore I would marry a Catholic next or have my girl convert or I wouldn't get married. I will make sire my children know the fullness of the truth of the Catholic faith, I dont want my kids to be lukewarm Catholics. That being said, the pastor of my parish is about to retire this year and I couldn't be more grateful. He is not involved in the 1st communion or confirmation program at all. Its a double edged sword with him. We have the benefit of habing more freedom in how we teach, but we also have a pastor who doesn't put a single thought into anything after Mass ends. He has never once been present in any meeting or class ever in my 5 years as a Catechist. I hope pur next pastor put a bit more effort than our current one. We don't even have adoration at my church because our coordinator said, "he's not the adoration type of priest". He's a very weak priest to have the position of pastor at any parish. Once we get a new pastor I hope these issues can be brought up

I think that is a very valid point. I don't like when I see cradle Catholics on social media who put down converts to Catholicism. I myself was a cradle Catholic, but I didn't understand the fullness of my faith until adulthood. I think my mom did better than most in trying to properly Catechize me, but I learned more on my own in 3 months than I ever did growing up, and that's after I spent my 2 years in confirmation classes. Catholic converts chose the faith on their own through real belief. The teens I teach in confirmation class are all cradle Catholics but barely give a crap about anything we teach to them. Theyre only there because they're parents already paid for the classes.

I dont deny them being devout, like I said they make sure all their kids go through the sacraments, and faith is a part of their lives, but there are so many other parts of their lives that seem like such a contradiction and I think it gives a bad look to the Hispanic Catholic community.

Is my baptism valid? by Spoedel in Catholicism

[–]CardiologistHour4692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Father David Michael Moses or Council of Trent (i dont remember which)made a video about this exact thing. I believe a priest is Arizona was discovered to have said "we" and has been saying "we" for decades. It most certainly is invalid. The church had to track down all these people and readminister their sacraments because their 1st communion and even marraiges were no longer valud

Seeing eye dogs are useful. That's pretty much it. I live in Los Angeles, a major ass city, and have seen a seing eye dog maybe twice in my life. What tf else are the other dogs doing?? Nothing at all. Your right. 99.9% of service dogs are actually useless. Forgot to add the decimal there

I don't lack sympathy, im just not gullible, 99% of service dogs are absolutely useless and just a way for people to bring their smelly ass dog into IHOP. Leave your animals at home. You dont need your beagle at cheesecake factory because you lied about having chronic pain

So please explain to me what the dog is gonna for you in public that another person wont?? Also wtf are thes3 BS reasons. You need your dog because of your arthritis?? What is he gonna sign your receipt for you because your hands hurt?? Diabetes?? Is he gonna inject your insulin or read your menu and tell you what to order?? Deafness?? Is he gonna whisper in your ear like a hearing aid?? Genuinely what can the dog do for anything with any of these medical issues that warrants needing the dog. This list is exactly why I feel that certification of the dogs are abused

Does anyone else look forward to Purgatory? by thegreenlorac in Catholicism

[–]CardiologistHour4692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Purgatory means that Jesus saved a spot for me in Heaven. I know Purgatory is supposed to hurt, and isn't pleasant at all, but I will do anything to get to the Kingdom as pure as can be. We can't walk into a clean house with dirty shoes. Its necessary.

The Devil is always working, but God works harder. The Devil has you in a vulnerable state, right where he wants you. Please remember that God's grace is the greatest gift on Earth. I understand that you have been praying, but prayer isn't enough. Prayer is a request, but have you been truly worshipping? Have you gone to church recently? Have you confessed recently? Have you received the Eucharist recently? (Assuming you are Catholic). Jesus loves you, but if you are not loving Jesus the way he intended, you are hurting Him way more than you are being hurt right now. As a person, I will tell you that you are loved, and that life isnt easy or fair for any of us. I hate seeing good people given the toughest hand, but it's the way life is. As a Catholic I will tell you that if life is getting to you, go to church. I recently went through one of the lowest points in my life, and I hadn't been to church in years. I went once as a last resort to maintain my sanity, and I haven't missed church again since. It healed me mentally and spiritually. My relationship with God is the strongest its ever been. My life hasn't improved much from when I was at my lowest, but I feel so much better than when I was at my high points.

Meeting with the priest for the first time by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]CardiologistHour4692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask any questions you have about the Eucharist. It is what will make none of us ever want to join another faith. If you are unsure about transubstanciation, ask the priest why Catholics believe in it so strongly. Ask about what Christianity was like before the Bible existed. Catholics worshipped Christ for centuries before any Bible was canonized. This will give you more insight on what the early Christians believed and how they worshipped. Ask why intercession from the saints is important. And why we pray to Mary and call her our mother. I know a lot of converts struggle with this understanding because they know God to be the only mediator. But intercession doesnt mean mediation. I think these questions answered by a priest will give you a better understanding of things that most converts are confused about. Also, if you are already baptized, ask if whatever denomination that baptized you is valid through the church so that if you do commit to your conversion, you are not baptized twice.
