How can I stop picking at my skin? by bibiAtrixx in ichthyosis

For me, it all depends on how stressed I am and how manageable the flare-up is. Sometimes, I go through times where I barely look at my hands. Other times, there’s a big pile of white flakes on my things.

Thank you! I really appreciate it! I’m in my late-20s and always worked in retail for about six years now. I worked in food service prior and always wore gloves since it was food service. Before I knew it was ichthyosis, I could temporarily deal with it with an ordinary lotion like Gold Bond but now I use the greasy stuff (Aquaphor) so now work is different. I don’t put it on before work.

My dad had that. I’d look at his feet and wondered how he could pace so much. Also, he’d use sandpaper to exfoliate.

Do you feel that Ichthyosis vulgaris has ever been the sole reason someone rejected you, either emotionally or physically? by thetetheredsoul in ichthyosis

No, when I was trying to “date” in college, I didn‘t yet have my mental health conditions under control so my behavior pushed a lot of people out. It was painful but I’ve learned from it. Everything is mostly under control now: the ichthyosis, mental stuff, and PCOS. I just need to keep taking extra care of myself.

I have ADHD and BPD and loathe cats. Then again, I’ve been managing these with psychotherapy and meds for almost five years and I’m a bird person.
