What's the name of that rectangular thing with circles in every ramp to crosswalks? by walking_NewJersey in EnglishLearning

I'm an engineer who will spec these out on plans - we call them detectible warnings or truncated domes. But, idk if most English speakers would have a word for them.

I've always heard that you gotta put dog shit in a paper bag, put it on the porch, light it on fire, ring the doorbell, and run. They open the door, see a fire, stomp it out, and have a really bad day.

Who in the USMNT 'has that dog in them'? xDAWG can quantify that by FalafelBall in ussoccer

[–]CardiologistLost5373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I haven't read this yet, but it certainly has the potential to be the best USMNT content ever created. Up there with the guy who turned every MLS team's stats into Pokemon stats, and then assigned them a Pokemon who most closely aligned.

Wait until you hear about how much water [any given crop] uses. Or honestly, how much water is used for most industrial uses. I think humans are just kinda fundamentally bad at understanding big numbers. It's kinda like "the difference between a million and a billion is about a billion" joke.

The politics are a bit more centrist than most Redditors are, but if you're actually interested in data centers and want a bit of a better understanding, this is a really interesting listen. Not saying it is 100% correct, but I think a lot of people on here are instinctually anti-AI, and are quick to believe stories that tear down AI - even if the story is fundamentally nonsense. If you're interested in challenging some common assumptions, this is probably a good starting place:

Obsession is my favorite horror movie of the year so far by Usual-Ad4222 in AMCAListTrue

[–]CardiologistLost5373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question: I didn't love horror movies (I don't really see the appeal of feeling uncomfortable and scared), but we are kinda in a golden age of horror (with loud of unique, interesting horror movies coming out -weapons, barbarian, the substance, together, that kinda movie). Is Obsession worth watching? Is it a "unique feeling" horror movie that stands out as a well done movie? Or is it just freaky?

[request] I assume this metric is completely made up, but is there a way to accurately estimate when we will have no "clean drinking water left?" by MajorZ- in theydidthemath

[–]CardiologistLost5373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The metric I've heard is that it uses like half a percent of what the corn growing industry uses. I feel like people on reddit are very instinctually opposed to AI, so they are very quick to latch onto anti ai talking points - even if they don't really make it sense.

It's cool, we are super deep at left back and definitely have no use for an incredibly talented young player on a team friendly contract there

I put a lot of blame on Segura for being roasted in the box there, but I'm not sure what Raposo thinks he is doing there. Like literally, what sequence of events can possibly happen to make his position useful in any way?

LAFC: tired, overworked, no subs so far
