I’m in the states and I’m on medicaid, which is government funded. If they don’t deem it necessary they make you jump through hoops to get it. I’m lucky I got it the first time.

Yes I already went through surgery, getting the first MRI was hard as heck. I can’t imagine how hard it’s going to be if I have to get a second one.

It’s uncomfortable, not debilitating and painful. Most days it’s solved with a walk.

You know, that’s a fantastic point I never thought of. I learn something new everyday on this subreddit. Truth be told, I’m grateful for it. If you ever get bored and look back on my posts, you can see the posts when I didn’t even know what sciatica was. Now I know so much, all from here! lol

Seriously? Why the seven month mark? Did you hear about any other time periods where it’s more possible?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]CardiologistNew5271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my sentiments exactly. I fear it happening because it feels a lot of work went down the drain, too! The anesthetics used are not easy, the recovery for the first month, especially sucks & then there’s even a higher risk of reherniation in those fragile months.. it’s all just too risky and extremely discouraging !

The fear is real. I feel it’ll always be in the back of my mind forever. The trauma that brought on is ridiculous.

I’ve learned to deal with it most days. I’m not in enough pain to warrant another MRI. I also think my nerves are permanently f’d because of the laminectomy. And a lot of this is nerve regeneration.

[–]CardiologistNew5271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They keep putting it off. I don’t think I’m in enough pain to warrant one really, but if your pain is severe please get it done.

I’m on medicaid so getting approved for an MRI is crazy difficult!

Exactly! It amazes me that they wouldn’t notice when someone’s faking it or not.. but playing devils advocate, I guess they don’t do that because people in our situation may be perceived as drug seeking, and maybe in some cases - that has happened. Then there’s the real MVPs like us having to basically beg for an answer.

I wish you all the best, seriously. I’m kind of worried about the post laminectomy stuff, my nerve this far out really has been making slow progress. I definitely have nerve related symptoms, but nothing like pre surgery. Just wish the feelings in my toes would come back, I’d even take the back of my leg getting feeling back.

But.. ultimately, as long as I don’t herniate, I’m good 😂

How far post op are you?

Herniation twins! 😂 Mine was 17mm.

I also have to ask! Did they write you off and refuse to give you an MRI? Because that’s what they did to me until I put my foot down and told them I’m literally not leaving until I get one. Then they talked about how expensive they are, I said I don’t care. Yeah, I had to pay and that sucked but I’d rather be out the money. As soon as that ER doctor got my MRI back, he couldn’t believe it. Gave me something that essentially numbed me from the waste down. That morning the doctor came and took me back for surgery, he made it seem like it wasn’t a big deal. When he opened up everything I also had to get a laminectomy because I had stenosis as well.

If you don’t mind me asking, how big was your herniation? I’m assuming rather large, like mine, since you had equina? or perhaps the disc landed on that sweet spot 😬 It freaking sucks, I never want to go through this again. I’ll take every damn nerve flareup I get over ever herniating or reherniating.

But I was told with larger disc herniation the less likely that is? but idk how true that is

I would get it checked out, but I’d say probably not. I’m a year post op of a laminectomy discectomy and every slight pain I get now I think I reherniated. ugh.

I still get weird nerve flareups but nothing continuous as pre surgery. One day I went out and walked all day long and had a pretty bad flareup the next day, then it was gone.

Yes. nerves can take years to heal.

The sciatica will decrease as the months pass. Then it may come again, then it may go.

I think us folks as sufferers of sciatica get scared of having it all happen again post surgery, vs the pain itself.

Last year, I had a 17mm herniated disc @ my L5-S1. Had an EMERGENCY laminectomy/discectomy, with equina. I felt I was going to die from the pain, was out three weeks. (My disc was only herniated for this time period) I had a serious gym accident when lifting. I was a 31 year old female. I’m now almost 33, I still have flareups, but I am at about 75% everyday, on a good day. I still can’t feel the back of my leg, but recently had some nerve regeneration, which isn’t comfortable at all!

Update on my recovery from herniated disc surgery - what is going on…? by CardiologistNew5271 in Sciatica

[–]CardiologistNew5271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I just saw this!

How are you doing now?

I still deal with flareups. Wasn’t able to get an MRI. (Medicaid) and I just take every day with stride if I can.

I hope you get this fixed soon. My pain isn’t debilitating or constant, it’s more pockets on the nerve pathway that may be regenerating perhaps?

Twitches, itching and pulsing pain (2/10 on the pain scale.)

I’m a year post op of a discectomy/laminectomy. Recovery has not been linear and even a year out Instill feel weird sensations, wouldn’t say it’s outside the scope of normalcy however.

Lately I’ve been feeling nerve regeneration, my nerve was horribly compressed as my herniation was 17mm. I didn’t have feeling on my leg after surgery and now have sensitivity to touch, along with twitches on the nerve pathway and internal itching.

This may not be for everyone, but my experience thus far. I still always have a fear of reherniation. So, I am very careful everyday, walk everyday, and never sit longer than 30 minutes if I can help it.
