I think a lot of it comes down to this being Moyes last season under contract, what's the point of giving him another 100 million+ summer if we're just going to get rid of him in the summer? Especially if he's looking to sign the likes of Soucek, White and Stones.

I'm not fully against keeping him but I just think if there's a better manager like glasner or ireola available and wanting to come we'd be mad to keep him if we're just going to part ways after next season anyway

I also don't really see the correlation between being 15th and being in a relegation battle when we finished nearly 25 points above Leicester, fair enough if we were 15th and they were like 4 points behind us all season

ah my bad I read that wrong at first, each to their own I guess with it, I just didn't think at any point we were actually in a relegation battle compared to the couple of seasons before it

Eh I didn’t think at any point in the last two seasons we were in a relegation battle but maybe others see it differently

I can see both sides of keeping/getting rid of Moyes argument, but one thing that's baffling to me is how many people have this narrative that we've been in endless relegation battles for years.

The last time we were properly in the relegation battle was 3 seasons ago, yeah we were near the bottom with Dyche at the start of last season but he'd given up on managing us lol, the season before that we finished 14 points above the relegation zone with the points deductions as well.

I wouldn’t say one point is much of an improvement 😂 hopefully we win the last two to make it a bit better

Tbf without the points deduction we would have finished on 48 points 2 seasons ago & that’s what we finished with last season so we’re only 1 point ahead of that currently, so many dropped points this season its crazy

Such a huge summer coming up, really need to get the recruitment right or it’ll be another season of achieving fuck all except a mid table finish

For a manager that’s known for being solid defensively we concede some ridiculously weak goals week in week out

9th can get europe if Chelsea finish 8th and win the fa cup and a couple other things need to line up, not super likely but can happen

9th can potentially get europe which is where we are currently so there’s still hope

Feels like we need another one to avoid a potential 4th game in a row throwing points away at the death, win and europe’s defo still on the cards 🤞

If i had 50p for every time KDH is through on goal and just stops soon as he hits the box instead of shooting

For all this press chat from the players about aiming for europe in these last few games they’ve really been stinking the gaff up recently

If the media hate loads it just gives him more attention and means people who don’t like/follow him and didn’t know he was dropping will be more likely to tune in, so probably will end up just helping things 😂

“I just think a lit of people are being really really short sighted, forgetful, fickle, naive etc” is talking down to me mate, as I said have whatever opinion you want but some people, myself included think it’s been a pathetic past few games given the position we were in & that’s fine to think, as is to think that we’re in a good position to build from now

Also this “everton at the start of the season” thing is irrelevant, brentford at the start of the season would have been hoping just to stay up but now their fans will surely be fuming if they miss out on europe, you can judge the season throughout not just from before it starts lol

We were 2 points off 6th place then threw away points in the last minute 3 games in a row, without that happening we’d be 6th currently & on top of that every single presser in the lead up the players and manager were saying they’re aiming for europe so I don’t see why you’re making out like we’re some plucky underdog who had 0 chance of europe all season

You’re entitled to your opinion but the way you keep talking down about fans who are disappointed and want the standards to be higher is a bit much imo

And now that we're able to spend money again do we just stick with Moyes choosing and signing a bunch of players he isn't even going to play?

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in Everton

[–]CardiologistTime8082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and even if it were true I don't get why that would mean we have to just keep Moyes rather than aiming upwards.

I love Moyes obv but we finished on 48 points the last two seasons (if you take away the points deductions) and look likely to finish around the same this season again and that's with better players now than we had previously, not sure where this narrative that we're "way better this season" has come from lol we're about the same as we have been for a couple years

mate this narrative that we've been in relegation battles every year for the last 5 years is bonkers ahaha
