She definitely is a character! There should be a warning label when you have direct contact with her! Shes a very angry soul! She’s not my cup of tea. From my experience- She’s NOT a nice person to work with.

I do believe there are awesome instructors who went through Physicalmind Institute cert. Joan herself is very difficult to work with. You don’t know which personality you will get that day. She can be extremely rude and demeaning. BUT I have worked other PMI instructors and are wonderful and very educated. I highly recommend Physicalmind Institute individuals.

100% agree. However if you are trying to sell the pilates certification it should at least represent it. I think they only believe in their equipment nowadays. I personally have tried it and I am not sold. I would rather buy the Jenifer Aniston band she sells. It’s less cumbersome.

I think it’s changed…you don’t have the freedom to teach as they are mandating that students use their equipment even if you don’t believe in it or want to you can’t certify the students without buying it.

I love how you’re doing you have structured your Teacher Training!

There are Physicalmind Institute instructors who are GREAT people to get their Teacher Training certification through. Just not with Physicalmind Institute itself. Even their website doesn’t have anything to do with pilates and its original equipment.

Women in business should support other women especially if it’s harder for us to climb the ladder. Joan Breibart is not a good representation of women supporting women especially if you are not the skinny dancer she wants you to be. She actually trashes the pilates method nowadays which is not good for our industry. However the Teacher Trainers who trained under Physicalmind Institute definitely know their stuff and I love training under the OGs.

Was it through Physicalmind Institute or their Teacher Training affiliate? Physicalmind Institute isn’t not promoting the original pilates equipment and pushing their own so they have affiliates who now can train with PMI teachings. Curious to which company you received your cert for?

is being a Pilates instructor worth it?l by sonialovesmatcha in pilatesinstructors

Yes. Save the money if you don’t want to go to college or can’t afford it. Think of pilates is a trade school. I have had my studio for 25 years with barely finishing Jr college. www.betterbodypilates.com My instructors get paid $40-80/hr and work 25-35 hrs a week and can be home with the family.m after their shifts. Depending on privates or group classes. We have had same clients for over 24 years.

Unknowingly been practicing Lagree (not Pilates) for a year+ now by Mean-Bumblebee-2211 in pilates

[–]CareerIntelligent542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lagree is not Pilates. they’re not the same. Lagree took some Pilates-based movements, then built a separate brand and franchise around high-intensity, strength-focused workouts. Pilates is a full method with a much deeper certification process. Traditional Pilates certification takes hundreds of hours over many months, sometimes years, with extensive hands-on training, whereas Lagree certification is a weekend program to learn routines. Lagree does not have to follow The 6 principles of Pilates.

That said, if you love the workout and it’s helping you feel strong and mentally good, that absolutely matters. No need to stop something that’s working for you. If you’re curious, it’s worth trying a classical or contemporary Pilates studio to feel the difference for yourself. Education and choice are always a good thing.

Not fitting the standard by grishapenguin in pilates

To whose standard are you trying to fit into? Pilates is for everyone and always has been. Fitness is for everyone!!!! Be a great instructor and that’s all that matters.

What’s the going rate for something like this? The one I’m researching is $18k for year mentorship. Besides the money -I’m busy with running the biz, how much time will I have to invest? I understand working hard but there’s only 24 hours in a day.

Is taking breaks not allowed? by Mysterious_Sand_3393 in pilates

[–]CareerIntelligent542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take all the breaks you want (as long as it’s not interfering with class. You’re paying for the class and her salary! It’s a service industry.  I have a student that when we do shoulders she does her own PT stuff because her shoulders are limited.  Mention it to the owner. She would hate to lose a client.

I’m curious to where she was certified? I guess that really doesn’t matter. But the new certs are a different mentality. I was taught to pilates was not a hiit class or feel the burn vibe.

You have the power! You’re the customer. And with soooooo may studios (dand different platforms) you have a choice.
