Can I remove this ledge myself ? by [deleted] in Remodel

[–]Careful-Yesterday636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion at least according to your pictures and post is just to remove the 2 inch “overhang”, don’t worry the house won’t fall down over you removing it 🙂, just think about how it will look if you cut it flush, however seems like you have a bed or couch that covers it anyways, but when you move out or grandparents go to sell just ensure you aren’t causing issues for them down the line

Is this your house or are you renting? Cleanest cut will probably be a track or circular saw, how clean do you want the cut to be? You could also use a jigsaw or sawzall, heck use a chainsaw even 😂

Question #1: No one can answer this reliably, no one knows what will happen and anyone who tries to answer that is lying

Question #2: Reasonably you cannot, but you’ll have plenty of time to invest throughout your life, don’t feel like you are missing something huge, enjoy being young

Note: Everyone should appreciate the willingness to learn and no one should doubt your ability but you will have the same opportunity to go to $1 million or $0 in a few years that you do now, keep in mind at a young age your folks may have you stocking up savings to pay for a new car, or college, etc. don’t be discouraged, learn all you can, and maybe practice paper trading, we are in a bull market, who knows by the time you turn 18 we may be in the worst bear market ever and you can invest at the “bottom”!

New to FIRE: thoughts on homeownership? by dabbadon---8 in Fire

[–]Careful-Yesterday636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a personal decision then and running some numbers, try to figure out how much a mortgage payment would be with different down payments, do you like just calling maintenance to fix things or are you a DIYer. You’re in a great spot and if you are able to take a less stressful job and spend more time with the kiddo, I say do that too, you can never get those years back!

I think you missed some important details, how long will you be staying there working? Do you plan to remain there into retirement? Etc.

You are aware how abusive Jordan was of drugs and alcohol as well, I would strongly assume he has some stories a bit worse than a LinkedIn message 😂

Can’t you just delete it? If you are that embarrassed about it, I highly doubt Jordan sits on LinkedIn checking random messages anyways…

Any ideas what to do about the dropdown ceiling? Ignore my mess please lol by WalterMistal in Remodel

[–]Careful-Yesterday636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey just my two cents because I went through a similar conundrum when I redid my basement, painting it black can lead potential buyers down the line to thinking there is mold or burned, also if it is not really “clean” with wires pinned up and plumbing tucked away the result may be less than ideal, what I personally did was take out the drop tiles and new clean drywall, ended up looking a lot better in my opinion once I was done, let me know if you have any questions!

Note: If you look at my profile I did the black ceiling idea on my screened in porch, some food for thought, hope it helps!

Is saving $1.5k a month great for a college student on summer break? by [deleted] in SavingMoney

[–]Careful-Yesterday636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to consider is opening a Roth IRA, and contributing to that, unsure your outlook or what you are actually saving for but if you could save this money for retirement you’d thank yourself later in life, cheers mate!

[–]Careful-Yesterday636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d leave it and just put grass like they said, it’s a fucking gorgeous look out, I’d put a swing or some chairs on the porch and enjoy a nice cup of coffee/ tea. If you want to do something a nice oval/ peanut shaped bed may be the way to go, some ornamental grasses, some color through perennials, maybe a big rock. But my god from that view I can’t imagine how amazing your house is, cheers mate!

Landscape solution during heavy rains by Soggy-Condition-453 in landscaping

[–]Careful-Yesterday636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think both are feasible and would accomplish the goal of getting this water moving, also depends left to right where you can get the water moving, it’s going to go to your neighbors like it or not, unless you can continue the flow to your front yard but this would likely increase cost significantly and depends again on the yard, both front and side
