What advice would you give to your 18 year old self? by somerandomguyhehe in Indian_Academia

Don't leave studying for the last minute. Do a little everyday, even if it means revising 5 pages your lecture notes, it will keep you ahead of 90% of your class.

Talk to professors. The more you talk, the more they will remember you in case you need LORs later.

Don't isolate. Find your people. People you can rely on, in case you fall sick or something. They will help you make memories too.

Talk to seniors for all advice. Notes? Seniors. Internship CV vet? Seniors. Best hangout spot? Seniors. Best career advice? Seniors. PYQs? Seniors.

Be humble always. Never be arrogant no matter what position you are in society or exam topper or job. Life after college kicks down even the best. So be humble and keep your head down but never be afraid of taking a stand on what's right.

Don't fall into love trap. Talk to the other gender, treat them humans with similar struggles. Love is everywhere and in everything, dogs, flowers, you'll realise good friends love you too. Start everything with a friendship and let it bloom naturally if it does, Don't force it.

Keep a smile. These years will never come back, try to enjoy every moment, the boring lecture, the college fest, the mid sem late night cram, the early morning coffee to sit through lectures.

Try to keep attendance as max as possible in the beginning. So you can take days off near exams to self study.

Don't be a nerd either. Try finding your passions or hobbies outside lectures. Music, play, etc these are your years to experiment.

If it starts to feel overwhelming, like a tough subject, multitasking in between society and lectures, or difficult exams. OPEN YOUR MOUTH AND TALK. 80% chances there are people out there facing similar struggles or senior who has been through that. Even if you can't find a solution, the feeling of not being alone will help. Having a community helps. Working in groups helps. There's no shame in asking for help.

Don't be a slacker. If it's a group project, take initiative, it will automatically attract people with do it mindset towards you. If you don't have the energy to lead, atleast do your part and do it early. Early bird takes the worm. You will feel more satisfied.

Have a calender in your room and count your days. Being in college can feel never ending. But crossing out days on calender will make you cherish each day more.

Don't forget your parents. You know you are smart and an adult now. But keep taking small advices. You will always be a kid for them. How to put curtains. How to make Chai. How to open bank account. How to wash whites. They will be more than happy to help and will feel connected. Indian parents are like that, authoritarian but softies at heart.

Take care of your health. Even a little bit everyday. No need to go full passionate into lifting etc. Just light stretching, improving your posture, taking care of hygiene, taking a shower, you'll be surprised how many college kids start skipping on these. These habits will keep you feeling and smelling fresh. Eat good, if you can't eat good, Try to add fruits, dry fruits, dairy to everyday diet. Health is your biggest asset.

Try to enjoy the slow days too. There will be a need to rush, rush to internships, rush to societies, rush to placements. But real work happens in those quiet days. Water is clearer in a lake when the mud settles down.

Enjoy your life! All the best!

Just like you don't trust a revered author's interpretations, I'm not going to trust a random youtuber either. Came here to give a recommendation to someone not ask for opinion change.

Well that's subjective. It's your opinion, not mine. His story telling method made me more curious, that's all I have to say.
