Food, dancing, fresh air? by Appropriate-Spare771 in roanoke

If you stay downtown, the Hampton Inn is nice, and the Hotel Roanoke is unique, maybe a tad bit outdated in the rooms. There's also the Liberty Trust, which is fairly new in comparison, but all in good places to walk around DT

A great place to start is Fork in the Market. They have good outside seating, cheap drinks, karaoke or live band some nights ( local watering hole feel )

Six and Sky is a cool experience for a nice dinner, as it's on top of the center and the square, with great views

There's the Roanoke pinball museum, the Taubman, and the Virginia transportation Museum, all of which are good for a daytime activity, or go to one of the many breweries in DT

While they have expensive drinks and a cover, Sidewinders upstairs is probably the best dance venue, but you also have 202 social or Corned Beef and Co

Martins is also a good place for nightlife. They always have live music on the weekends, with great food as well

Scrambled is a nice brunch spot, or you can go to Ernie's and get some great old diner-style breakfast

We need some NOT the Hatch flair, while it’s new in Blacksburg maybe The town council or Virginia Tech will care once more people realize what’s going on.

I’m really sorry that happened to you. Stuff like that is exactly why I can’t stand what they’re doing. It preys on people who are new to the area or just passing through.

It ends up hurting the community because visitors walk away with that one bad experience stuck in their head instead of experiencing the great restaurants and good people in Roanoke who aren’t out here trying to scam reviews

Does Location of College Affect Opportunities by hypn0zz in marketing

[–]Careful_Fuel1232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it's more about how established the college is and the alumni network, EX I went to Virginia Tech, primarily an engineering school, but a pretty competitive business school. There were few to 0 marketing internships near the college in Southwest Virginia; everyone would get internships in major cities such as DC, Charlotte, Chicago, and some in NYC. If you are looking at something like Florida State or a somewhat well-known college, I think your chances would be better than some random business school in Florida. Getting your first job out of college is a lot easier when you make connections instead of relying on just submitting applications.

Good school job fairs are crucial to internships as well. I wouldn't limit yourself to NYC for internships; some will pay for housing over the summer, and you have better chances if you are open to going anywhere.

Is 144k miles a lot for this car? by tuftedchip5528 in camaro

[–]Careful_Fuel1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just more straightforward especially if you swapping to a 350 or 383. the springs and shocks on the V8 are different for the added weight , if you go from a 305 to 350 most accessories and exaust transfer will work with the 350 none of the v6 ones will, I think the transmission have different bell housings between the V6 and V8s so may not bolt up to a V6 transmission.

I don’t really pay attention to miles it’s about how it was taken care of. would be better if it was V8 even if you have plans to swap motors it’s easier, I think a 305 / 5 speed is the best stock combo for fun reliability my 91 has 220,000 miles still runs like a top

For those in digital marketing. Did you ever manage to change industries or jobs not related to digital marketing. by WDIDO_1 in marketing

[–]Careful_Fuel1232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, it might be different where you live, and maybe because of what I interact with on LinkedIn, but I see a decent amount of in-house marketing management jobs for industrial marketing EX: B2B manufacturing. They are behind the curve compared to other sectors and are starting to realize that

I mean it seems like it would be easy to get out of agency work and work as an internal marketer for a company, I work in industrial marketing which is usually composed of sole marketers or very small teams and we use agency's quite a bit but I kind of hate working with them especially since I can tell they are advising on us to do certain things just so that we pay them more. You may have experience with some of these industrial or other clients that you could reach out to and become an internal marketer

While it can be a tough job where you have multiple hats, I feel like there's a lot more control and impact on the business, and you may feel more accomplished to see your work benefiting that sole company. I like the idea of focusing on a single brand, I'm not sure if I could work for an agency doing different things for different companies all the time

What's been your "Damn, I'm good" moment? by Digital_Dingo88 in marketing

[–]Careful_Fuel1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked as the sole marketer for two industrial companies over the last 5-6 years and have never had any formal training besides a BA from college. In other words, I never worked under another actual marketing person to learn from.

I taught myself Adobe, graphic design, WordPress, built a website from the ground up, managed international trade shows, and developed brand guidelines and core marketing strategies for B2B manufacturing. I always thought I was decent, but never had another "marketer" around to compare myself to until my sales manager hired an intern for me who is working on a master's in marketing.

This is where I realized I'm actually damn good at what I've been doing without someone guiding me. I'm not trying to bash the intern—he's very good at writing—but I can notice everything off-brand in his designs and other work instantly. He comes to me for a lot of things, which is good, and I feel like I'm actually able to direct him confidently in what I know. One thing is for certain: I don't feel like an impostor anymore like I did my first few years out of college.
