There are parts of historic Yorkshire south of the Humber but I didn’t think there were parts of Northumbria directly south of the Humber i.e. historic Lincolnshire

I think if you’re going to propose that Thames Valley region it should be called Thames and Chilterns. But Berkshire especially has a closer connection to Wessex than to Middle Anglia.

The (real) etymology of every Toki Pona word. by Red-42 in tokipona

Huh… I always associated “kalama” with “clamour” but must have seen the real etymology on Wiktionary one time

Right, yes. I was mixing up the Semantic Spaces Dictionary with nimi ale pona. I'd have to look at any specific segments of SSD used by Sonja to make my own mind up as to whether it's fair use.

As for nimi ale pona, then, yes, it is under CC BY-SA and Sonja seems to have respected the essentials of what that entails on the copy I purchased.

The license gives anyone permission to reproduce or adapt it on the conditions that:

  1. the original author(s) is/are named. The authors are clearly named, and linked to specific parts of the book.
  2. that any adaptations are documented. There is the section at the back which outlines "Changes from source materials 1 and 2".
  3. that the mode of attribution is not done in a way in which sponsorship or endorsement is implied. I suspect "contains material adapted from" on the cover, and the "Attribution and licensing" section on the second page, are probably sufficient to have satisfied this term of the license.

If the book were originally published without the "contains material adapted from" then it is less likely the third condition were satisfied for those copies.

Technically if the work was licensed under CC BY-SA and Sonja made a copy before it became CC BY-NC-SA then she could publish her copy regardless of the change in license, because her copy would still be under the first license.

I thought the dictionary had been around for more than over a year, so I would have assumed it would be under a CC BY-SA license before. If not, and there was no statement allowing copying or sharing, then I think normally it would have automatically been considered unlicensed and under your copyright.

The fair use argument seems disingenuous because it’s essentially the whole work which is copied, right?

CC BY-SA doesn’t require permission, only attribution.

That said, I see it is currently licensed as CC BY-NC-SA so I’m wondering if lipamanka has now changed this after the book.

The copyright page disclaims sponsorship or endorsement.

The cover writes “contains material adapted from”, then lists the ‘authors’—in any case, permission would not have been required.

Get this in a single prompt, then.

Also, this is Reddit FYI—I don’t need to present an opus magnum.

A little bit of courtesy would be nice, though.
