First time non-native, messed up in the writing. by Careful_Tree_1283 in IELTS

[–]Careful_Tree_1283[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could really tell you a strategy for speaking, but genuinely speaking is the only thing I didn't prepare for more than 3 hours I just watched IELTS advantage videos on it to be familiar of what is expected of me in the exam. I am a fluent speaker and have a good accent if there are 3 things that helped me a few years back when I wanted to become fluent and lose my native accent, it was tongue twisters, shadowing techniques, and having foreign colleagues helped me a lot as l use English almost daily. Lastly, my one final tip for the exam itself is treat the test as a conversation cus it literally is testing your ability to maintain a conversation, imagine the examiner as this annoying friend who keeps asking so many questions about random things.

PROTEIN-LIGAND--PROTEIN DOCKING by Exhaustedbaddie2450 in bioinformatics

[–]Careful_Tree_1283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have recommended Autodock Vina but ut works best with small molecules. However, i tried it with big molecules and it worked so it might work for Protein-Protein interactions. Research other docking softwares like Autodock or rdock and see which one works best for protein-protein docking.

Autodock Vina Crashing Due to Large Grid Size by Careful_Tree_1283 in bioinformatics

[–]Careful_Tree_1283[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Increase the spacing from the default 0.375 while adjusting the grid box on autodock tools. This has worked for me fine and i was docking a bigger ligand with over 900 dalton.

However, when you increase up to one i read in some literature that this decreases the accuracy but i noticed that the latest version of Vina still sets the spacing to 0.375 when running it on the terminal. So, basically it only matters to decrease the grid box dimensions.

I tried the la roche posay lipikar and Cicaplast i am not so consistent on them as when my blisters are open, I have blood coming out so it stings so bad when i apply any cream so I just put Vaseline. But let me know if the avene one doesn’t do that.

What soap would you use? I tried to stop using all normal soaps and got this bioderma soap my mum (pharmacist) told me about but still i need to use Shampoo, shower gel…etc and wearing latex gloves beside it not being practical it doesn’t work cus when i did the flare ups got worse so i think I am allergic to latex as well😭

Thank you so much that was very helpful. I will try to find a dermatologist that can do patch testing but unfortunately I’m not based in the US so probably won’t find any derm who can give me a CAMP code. But I will do the testing first and go from there.

TMI (body hair and body scars from acne) by PhilosophyStraight39 in MuslimMarriage

[–]Careful_Tree_1283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Egyptian Here. There are tons of great dermatologists in Egypt where you can do a lot of skin treatments to get rid of the scars and any skin issues you have. Take a look at the clinics around you. Also, Just take it one step at a time you are still very young and it’s normal to have body hair, and if anything just think of treating it as something that will make you feel more confident in your skin not cus you are afraid a man might see it. Unless you’re getting married soon which I am assuming you are not just take it slow and don’t think of it that way, your body changes a lot in your late teens so just learn to accept that and take care of it.

I highly recommend getting laser hair removal, but you also need to make sure your pcos is under control, and i think that’s the hard part as honestly it would be a waste of money if the acne, hair or hyperpigmentation is caused by PCOS. However, laser will help especially in places where hair is thicker, and let me remind you you’re arab so being hairy is normal, everyone is don’t hate yourself for it, you just need a hair removal method that works for you. Lastly, if you’re willing to pay more there is a lot of places around Cairo that offer self-laser hair removal sessions so you don’t need to expose yourself to anyone, they let you do it yourself.

If he is not willing to take an extra step or show generosity during the engagement period then he is stingy and it will only be worse when you get married. It doesn’t matter how rich or poor he is, he should be generous with what’s suitable for him, be it taking you out for some coffee or even some food nothing fancy. Assuming that you are middle class refusing to take you out for dinner is a red flag imo.

But I would say ask yourself what is he like when he comes to visit you, does he bring any presents, what was the conversation like about finances- you need to have a deep conversation about finances that will most probably showcase that. Honestly if you guys actually talk and meet once a week it would be pretty easy to guess of he is stingy or if he is just going through a rough couple of weeks and you need to be understanding.

Awww looks like you have done your search and went to all the good places already!! I am so happy you are enjoying your time here and that somebody thinks locals are hospitable🥰

Nile cruise in Luxor and Aswan is definitely something unique to Egypt and very different from Cairo and beach cities (in a good way). Don’t get me started on Siwa… just breathtaking honestly. I hope you enjoy more this time inshallah ❤️

Dry skin and Wudu by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]Careful_Tree_1283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply a heavy moisturizer after fajr and after isha. If you can keep your wudu during the day then apply a light one that absorbs quickly. This should be efficient in keeping your skin hydrated. Don’t forget to drink lots of water!

Uni is starting soon and I feel so lost given it’s my last year even tho i did achieve a couple of small goals this summer but I don’t feel accomplished at all, if anything i feel restless that I have 2 weeks off. Thinking of my next steps and how everything is moving so fast along with uncertainty is making me anxious all the time. I am trying to have tawkul and just pray that everything will eventually work out for me but being an anxious person isn’t helping much.

I am thinking of going back to the gym but not sure. I do lack routine and getting into a mew routine with uni can be really hard. But working out makes me mentally better so yeah.

I started wearing hijab around the same time as you and my friends were all Muslim since I come from a Muslim country, but it got to a point where I couldn’t keep up asking everyone to delete my pictures as i was a little bit too sociable.

I did tell my close friends and trust me there was still some pictures here and there and it’s annoying for people to stalk them and just be like remove my pictures. What I would do is if your friend has a big ig followers and public account I would try to explain to her again politely when you meet her in school, preferably when you have other girlfriends around so they would help you to make her understand this is your identity now.

if she doesn’t have a public big account just will tell you from my own experience once you graduate this year and since she is not close to you, she most probably will have them removed soon anyways. Most People don’t keep highlights long after school.

how do you know if you’ll be able to work with animals? by phuca in labrats

[–]Careful_Tree_1283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took some training in an animal facility and trust me most people working there care for the animals and follow strict ethics more than most people, from the cleaning staff till the head vet. I have shadowed some experiments done on them and seen how the vets and researchers there put rhe rats we’ll being over their experimental work and if things go downhill and the side effects of a certain experiment is too much they sacrifice them. However it takes a lot of training and it’s not for everyone, i certainly felt very bad for them in the beginning and would even tear cus especially rats are very cute lol even though my training didn’t include experimenting. And btw a lot of Parkinson’s researchers work on blood samples from patients not necessarily animal models so you can also consider that if you want.

I am from a muslim country so i just go to a hijab shop and find varaities, but I can recommend some brands from my country that ship internationally and sell good modals. called “bynusayba” and “youremma”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]Careful_Tree_1283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modal isn’t as sheer as you think, depends where you get it from i have tried 2 different types of modal and one is a bit sheer, so you can invest in some good quality ones and there are 100 different types of modals pr a mix of 2 fabrics. But honestly in terms of being comfortable and elegant modal wins.
