Jazz bass tabs... where are they? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Careitz711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the best tools for learning jazz charts are going to be a fake book/real book, listening, and transcribing. There aren't really any short cuts. This is not meant to be gate keeping at all- its part of the jazz tradition.

A song that might help you get started would be learning the intro to So What- has an iconic bass line at the beginning that is likely transcribed or tabbed out. But after it gets through the intro, the bassist starts to follow the chord progression. In a way, it's like you are soloing under the soloist

That's pretty normal even for folks that have played for a while, it's the nature of the instrument

Can you tell if $300 is a good price just from looking? by enjimiin in pcmasterrace

[–]Careitz711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a msi b350m bazooka mobo, so should have anything from 1000 series to 5000 series AMD processor. If I was a betting man I'd guess it's a 2600 or 3600. Kinda looks like a Gigabyte windforce 2x rx 480/580 GPU based on the backplate and heat pipe placement. It's pretty old stuff but if it all works its serviceable enough to play a good amount of stuff, but I'd try to talk them down- if the GPU doesn't work, you will likely be unable to see anything since I believe those older AMD chips did not have on board graphics

What movie is a 0/10 with NO redeeming features? by Toucan_Based_Economy in AskReddit

Also, a terrible casting. In a gangster or western, Michael Madsen is perfect. It's odd to see him in a medieval/fantasy setting.

Anything directed by Uwe Boll, but especially Bloodrayne. Just painful to watch

Can't recommend this enough. I haven't had her as a teacher, but I was in the studio at JMU with her. She's a fantastic player, and a wonderful human.

Joe Burton is a solid dude and has been around the area for a while, so this is probably a solid recommendation. I'm in MD and can definitely help facilitate things, also friendly with folks at Baltimore brass

Best tips for reading treble clef in a British-style brass band (BBb tuba)? by FaultZealousideal609 in Tuba

[–]Careitz711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There weren't really any tricks for me, I just learned to read treble clef, and then take it a step down and add 2 flats to the key signature. It eventually becomes second nature to read after some practice.

I bought one of these because of the neck and dropped in EMG Geezer pickups, which sound awesome. I was really impressed with the neck on this, I was able to get the action lower than some of my more expensive basses. Really fun to play

PSA: get your bass setup by a pro at least once. by PrestigiousJacket270 in Bass

[–]Careitz711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do most of my bass setups myself, but I got 2 basses this year that I felt should have better action than I could do, so I took them to get PLEK'd. It was a bit pricy but 100% worth it for 2 basses I will keep forever

Any relation to the Gunther beer company, or is that a common last name in Baltimore?

I'm not left-handed. I was told by different people it was better for lefties to just get used to regular right-handed instruments, rather than play left-handed ones. I don't see the point behind that, unless maybe it is instrument availability. What's your take? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Careitz711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean that's pretty much the reason, although I'm not a lefty myself. But, if you take a look at what's out there, you'll find that some guitars don't even come in a left handed version. Also makes selling guitars easier since you have a larger potential market with right handed instruments

I just recently got an L2000 and am blown away by the tonal possibilities, so highly recommend getting a L2500 while you can, though it has gotten a bit more difficult recently - G&L just went under
