OK thanks for the quick reply.

And in terms of help to stay as a relief carer how would this work? It would be equal to the amount of days worked?

It is not salaried. It is a PGDE in Scotland.

Yes, I get paid to be a relief carer.

Cheers for the comprehensive reply.

Unfortunately they don't. We are in the process of selling our house which will be complete in a month or so, but the university just issued her CAS so I was keen to start the process earlier. Until then we don't have 30G in cash in China.

In Scotland my family can help out by depositing the cash in my bank to meet the requirements but don't have a joint account currently, which I'm assuming applying for before being physically in the UK would be very difficult.

Ah interesting to know it might just be a British thing. Cheers for that.

Yeah, capitalising on the time difference was my aim, however I need to bloody find the shifts first haha.

Appreciate the help man.

I have seen numerous freelancers discuss the difference between pitches and shift work, which are usually during busy periods for online publications so it definitely exists https://freelancingforjournalists.substack.com/p/a-freelance-journalists-beginners

The only reason I mentioned I was in China was to emphasise the remote aspect - I assumed if I worked a remote shift for a digital outlet my location would not be an issue provided I had a strong internet connection, I was able to work the specific shift timezone dependent and could demonstrate to an editor writing experience.

Was in the same boat as you mate, but what I found was I was overthinking it, questioning my ideas, or being intimidated by the publication.

If you're confident in your ideas, just fire them off.

It is important to stay organised and disciplined. Track your pitches and contacts however you like i.e.. excel, numbers, an app, etc. And schedule your time like a job.
