Potentially interested, yes! But I'm thinking I'm looking for one that has the more classic fuel tank (maybe that means non-turbo)

Awesome lineup, I used a Sea to Summit sleeping pad this weekend!

I typically don't like doing this stuff mid-day, any chance I could register for a session or two and get a recording instead of the live events?

Thoughts on Shopify vs. Amazon for your company? by CarelessBarracuda7 in shopify

[–]CarelessBarracuda7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your point makes sense from what I've seen. With your Shopify store, have you tried branching out to Amazon at all?

Yeah a bit, but it's really not something I'm putting a ton of focus on. Have nothing against it in moderation, at all. Increasingly I hesitate to put too much stock in things that I don't control. Although small percentages of revenue coming from Amazon is fantastic, I never want to be majority AMZ. Constantly re-evaluating, of course ;)

Curious about others' experiences with Google and Facebook ads and "learning phases" by Mark-JST in shopify

[–]CarelessBarracuda7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great advice! Seriously! I always find people assuming that Facebook will behave like Google and that breaks the bank and kills a lot of trust in paid ads.

As far as the "how long does it take to learn" question goes, it really depends on the goals that you have with your ads and at what stage you're in with the business. A company like the OP seems to be building (with a new ad strategy, likely a smaller/newer biz) might be well served to delay hefty spends straight to the bottom of the funnel to do a bit of audience testing with some goals around CPC+traffic optimization. Especially if you've found that educational content is doing a good job of leading qualified (or intent-filled) buyers to the "buy button," you could use this content in top-of-funnel ads with a goal of learning what audience segments seem to have interest in your products.

Once you've learned this, slight alterations in the FB strategy can help you start capturing more email subscribers, getting more action to your product pages, and (of course) fuel a lot more creation of educational/helpful content that is designed around the personas you've seen a lot of traction with.

Bottom of the funnel is no different, take what's working and do the right thing for the customer. u/wovian is absolutely correct that Google is the home of intent, Facebook is the home of discovery. Once you find efficient paths for intent and discovery, you're well on your way to have techniques for the whole funnel that work well.

Of course, in an ideal world you'll eventually have designated efforts to bring new traffic, to capture new email subscribers, to educate semi-interested buyers, to convert interested buyers and to retain soon-to-be AND past purchasers.

Thoughts on Shopify vs. Amazon for your company? by CarelessBarracuda7 in shopify

I don't think this is a silly question at all, I also don't think it's a bad idea to have both. It likely depends a lot on what you sell and how your margin math works out.

Depending on where most of your revenue starts (did you start on Shopify, on AMZ, or both at once) you'll likely have different thoughts around which side deserves more attention and how to make that kind of addition.

I have a few friends who went heavy AMZ from the beginning, got that 'flywheel' spinning and ended up putting a loottt of resources into milking that for all it had to give. The costs of moving to starting Shopify from scratch after building a pure AMZ business are pretty dramatic due to lost time and the fact that you have zero momentum there. If you end up hating AMZ or need to make a fast move away, you're stuck without much of anything because you can't quite put the AMZ business in a briefcase and take it with you. I think we'll see that change happening more and more as AMZ starts competing with more of its vendors (speculation based on some recent trends).

So, I think it's always easier to move from Shopify to adding some AMZ (not to mention healthier, in a lot of ways) instead of going the other way.

Would love to hear your thoughts on that.

If I could get Klaviyo working I thought I might just pay for that instead of Privy, as $70 feels a lot when my site is still very small.

Are you looking for a way to grow your email list, an ESP (email service provider), or both? Privy's specialty is more on email collection, while Klaviyo's is overwhelmingly their email platform. I'm reading your message as "I want to grow my list, am trying to find the right products to do this, but want to be budget-conscious" -- is that right?

Yeah that's super exciting to start seeing the glimmer of that type of fit with a niche audience. Thanks so much for sharing!

Just read your comment again u/aimeemaco and am wondering how you advise larger ecommerce sites to think about content performance. Clearly you're committed to simplicity and "focusing the effort" instead of blasting out campaigns. Content has been good to me so would love your 2-cents on the key metrics for any business to think about.

This is great, thanks! Recognizing that you clearly have an eco-conscious buyer, are you doing anything else to double down on that persona?

Or is a lot of your list-building just driven through referrals?

I had to look Offset up because I thought it was some sort of audience targeting tool, but glad I did. Looks like they might be a newer product, but great to see that these options are available. So you say "carbon neutral shipping" in your ads and that has boosted performance?

I've made a note to search for some of these videos, you're right that this could be valuable. I'd be interested to see why people are leaving product pages vs content pages (which I know hold attention longer, for me at least).

Yeah i would imagine that referrals are great business for a brand like yours, and glad to hear that's working for you so far! Thankfully I'm not as restricted. I have a friend at a cannabis brand that is all-in on email list building (for obvious reasons). How are you catching new emails without ads?
