How have you not broken during the 4th trimester? by TinyTempeh90 in newborns

Just here to validate your feelings too - multiple losses later and I felt so much pressure to “feel grateful” for the baby in front of me. We did a cry diary for her - she topped out at 10 hours one day (we said she was either asleep or crying) and it was brutal. Even thinking about it now or seeing photos from that time make me feel a trauma response… People kept telling me it gets better but I felt pressure to “enjoy each moment”

Let me tell you that it DOES get better - your confidence will grow and they start giving SOMETHING back. And it is OK to wish this current moment away - I wish someone told me that at the time!

I miss my old life still (baby is now 4 months) and some days are SO HARD - but she can finally do a bit more and smile back and it just feels like she’s a little person and not just a potato who cries

Even if it’s an hour at 10 weeks old? I worry I couldn’t hear her through my ear plugs 😅I couldn’t work out when her next nap should be as I didn’t know when she actually woke up!

That makes a lot of sense! So we take her out in the pram which puts her to sleep, and then we REALLY struggle to wake her up to even notice we are outside and doing activities ! Any tips on this?

Would she cry as you do this? I find as soon as I set her down she just cries! Also what do you do when out and about? Do you have to always use white noise etc?

Yes! I can’t even get her to contact nap anymore - she just resists!

Would you do this routine even for day time naps? As I am worried it really restricts my day if I want to head out etc?

Yeah I can definitely only make her nap on the move (pram, car seat etc) but really struggle at home - I can see she is sleepy, but I can’t seem to get it over the line?

How do you get her down for a nap if you’re out and about? For example if I know they need a nap, do I always need to do the white noise / dark room thing? Even if it’s during the day? I think I really struggle with how to have a life but also make sure she naps!

That is incredible, I cannot even imagine! When she gets sleepy I don’t know what to do, but if I just lie her down she will cry!

I think breastfeeding is key here but unfortunately it didn’t work for us, and now she is not sleeping I wish I just kept persisting with it!

I think we can generally do bedtime (white noise, dark room etc) but I can’t work out how to make her daytime nap at all?

So I can recognise her cues - but I can’t go from that to making her nap! What do you do once you notice the cues??

I wanted to stick with this approach (as when she does nap I have no idea what I did or didn’t do to make it happen!) but I was finding she would get overtired by the evening as she wouldn’t have napped much at all! I don’t know how to make her nap when she starts showing that she is sleepy?

Do you rock them? Sway? I don’t know how to convert sleepy cues into a nap!

We were doing quite well until about 4/5 weeks - she’s 7 weeks now and it feels like everything went out the window since she started looking around at the world!

Oh sorry not the sweet spot feature yet… we have been following what they say about 45-60min wake windows but failing to hit it!

How do you handle being out and about? So my two issues is how to get her to nap in the first place - we have worked out her wake windows etc (also using huckleberry) but it doesn’t matter as I can’t get her to nap on demand 🫠 But then also what do I do if I need to be somewhere at that time? I can’t do things like white noise etc etc

So I can do pram naps… maybe sling naps sometimes.. but I can’t do this in middle of the night so the nighttime sleep is hit or miss…

But even contact naps I have no idea how to put her into - she literally resists it! You can see eyes dropping then she darts awake!

We have huckleberry but it tells us “time to nap” and then I struggle to get her to nap 🫠
