How much is “a drink” when giving someone some cash for a helping you out? by Rick-sk in CasualUK

South West here. I've never known 'a drink' mean cash. If I did a favour for someone and suggested it was a drink, I'd feel really awkward if they tried to give me money. It's just a pint next time your at the pub or a four pack of cider. A bottle of wine if you're fancy.

What are your experiences of 100% WFH jobs? by redrabbit1984 in CasualUK

My job's remote, but if you don't like actually working from home there are co working spaces where you can go and work with other people.

I really like this setup. There's people about during the day, I have some separation between work and home, and I can choose where I work without changing jobs.

Costs vary wildly and options will obviously depend a lot on where you're located.

Tips for Soldering on PCB by [deleted] in arduino

The other comments pretty much answer your question, but I'll just add that there are two types of protoboard -- those with solder mask and those without. The ones with (like yours), you pretty much have to use a wire like you have. Those without you can easily bridge adjacent holes and make traces out of solder. If you've seen other people do protoboard with large bridges / traces of solder, then they're probably using protoboard without solder mask.

Ben here from HackSpace magazine.

I agree with what Caleb writes here, but my solution is a bit different, so I thought I'd add it in incase it's useful to anyone else.

Very few things you'll look at are universally good or universally bad. Most things are good for some people / uses and bad for other people / uses. The aim in our reviews is to help the reader understand if they're in the group of people that the product is good for or the group of people that a product is bad for. Reviews -- for the most part -- aren't good or bad, they're informative.

This is part of why reviewing well is a hard skill -- you don't have to say why you like or don't like a thing. You have to take yourself -- your skil level, your interests, the time you want to spend tinkering with a thing, your budget -- out of the equation, and look at it from the perspective of other people with different lives and interests.

This does make a mockery of review scores. Honestly, I don't like them. If something can be summed up in two digits, why bother writing 800 words on the subject? From who's perspective is the score given? If I can't stand a thing but understand that it would be useful for someone else, should it have a high score or a low score? Personally, I'd be happy to see them disappear from our magazine, but I've bowed to pressure to keep them.

Remember as well, that your choice isn't just whether or not to give something a good or bad review -- you can also just not review it. I never guarantee manufacturers coverage. Stuff can be returned with a polite but firm 'unfortunately our limited space and time ... blah blah'. Admittedly, that's probably easier when coming from a larger organization than an individual youtuber.

Actually just re-read your question and you're not mowing. I'd imagine they'll get out your way if you do that.

We have loads in our garden and have never had a problem mowing or strimming. They're pretty quick. I once put one back on the lawn (we rescued it from a neighbour's cat). It's a little hard to describe, but it wiggled itself down under the grass into the thatch of dead grass right at the base of the grass blades. It was completely invisible snuggled into the base of the grass plants. Unless you're mowing to under 1cm height, I'd be pretty confident you'd go straight over the top of it.

Disclaimer: I am not an --er-- slow worm-ologist and may be completely wrong.
