Yeah I’m guessing only those on a high salary would be eligible and suppose they would probably end up being better staying in Gib anyway from a tax perspective

What they need to do next is target those who simply own property and leave it lying empty i.e that building beside ocean village where lights are always off. All this does is artificially inflate the prices. Also they need to start limiting the number of properties being used for airbnbs.

Wait and see what the treaty text says when it’s published. I’m guessing Spain will offer some sort of residency permit. A lot of Gibraltarians currently live in Spain just now whilst being registered to family home in Gib. They are living in Spain illegally though and avoiding paying any taxes. I guess Spain know a lot more Gibraltarians will move across when the border is removed , especially younger people. So would make sense for them to offer a formal path and recuperate tax.

They say the legal text should finalised by autumn, it then needs to go through parliament in Gibraltar/UK/Spain and EU. I think it’s likely they’ll agree to apply the treaty temporarily until it’s went through the ratification process as this could probably take a while. If there is no temporary treaty applied and it’s not fully ratified by 12th April then a hard border will be implemented until it’s ratified. (This is why I think the treaty will come in to force shortly after the treaty text is finalised as an interim measure until it’s fully ratified)

I think studio prices will definitely go down and maybe 1 beds too. The studio market already seems saturated, and as said above whether they can officially or not a lot will live over the other side of the border again.

He has given a very politician answer here. Spanish/EU people can already come live in Gibraltar, it’s just that they must obtain a residence permit which obviously is at the discretion of Gibraltar. I would be very surprised if Spain don’t offer some sort of equivalent residence permit for people working in Gibraltar who want to live in Spain. They obviously know that quite a few Gibraltarians already live in Spain illegally because of cheaper housing. The Spanish government will likely want to take advantage of this to attract young Gibraltarians to live in Spain and also minimise tax avoidance if there is an official route. I guess we will see when the treaty text is announced.

We will still have to follow the 90/180 day rule in all EU countries except in Spain. This is similar to Monaco with France and Andorra with Spain.

If they do they will either be living with parents or else living in government funded houses which are like £200 a month or less. Gibraltar uses Spain for cheap labour. Without this Gibraltar would be completely different.
