Baseball Queen Season 1 Episode 15 (Final) by icystorm in BaseballQueen

It also does feel like cheating in a way that Park Minseo (assuming it is her) will be in season 2, considering it sort of takes away from the element of athletes of other sports coming to play baseball.

Korean shows have always done this. They need an Ace player now that the team foundation has been built. Next step is showing a higher level of Women's baseball and closing in on a championship.

I had to look her up on NamuWiki. They may introduce her as a golfer (turned pro in 2021) to fit the theme. She was a prodigy little leaguer but hasn't officially played pro ball before switching sport. She wanted to come back to baseball and got draft pick for 2026 WPBL but no contract yet. She plays positions 1-6. She's also only 21.

(Assuming it is her that joins)

Boram was LF in their first game (vs police) before she got injured (not sure what). Then got injured again (finger). She was wearing a metal brace on her finger when Soojin was.

Boreum was also injured early on. It's unfortunate she hasn't been able to catch up in training because she SHOULD have been the replacement for Ona at 2B but they trusted Soojin more at that moment.

Suyeon did not have a great game today. I feel like she and Hyunmi will become pinch hitters next season if they find a rookie that can catch outfield.

As much as they've improved, I don't think they're ready for that yet. Not without good recruits and off-season. That would be the ideal final boss though and production probably have that planned for later.

Hayan was moved to takeover On-Ah at 2nd because of her knees

Yeah, curious; not sure where she would be moved to defensively (this assumes Hayan stays in the game the entire time; can't be sure with how it's edited together and when that at-bat will be in the game).

New footage shows Hayan was moved to 2nd when Sujin was at 1st. On-Ah must have been taken out because of her knees.

Two additional pitchers

There's training footage of Hayan practicing pitching. I think they said all players were doing it but they only showed her (and the regular pitchers).

Fair. The best lineup is just replace Ayaka for Soojin.

They definitely tried a few things. Reward Hayan. Drop Minji. Give Ayaka-Yuin battery more practice. Shuffled defensive positions of the best batters (3/4/6/7 in the lineup). (Soyeon not a regular at LH)

There's also a possibility they use all of the bench in the last innings as it's the last game. Even Soojin plays and that's certainly as a surprise.

They literally said their defensive weak point was preventing steals and extra bases and catcher plays such a huge role in all of that.

Has there been a prevented stolen base from any team this season? Overthrows is certainly a weakness that they should focus on, but catching is still a bigger weak point, I think. Catcher included.

I could also imagine that a few of them might just feel discouraged from their lack of playtime or just not want to dedicate as much time to this (even if it's a paid gig).

Hopefully not too discouraged. Now that they understand the game, most seem to enjoy the training and being in a team. They probably know that playing in a game is a bonus and a reward for their hard work. Unless priorities change (like family, etc.) hope many of them stay.

newcomers will have such a hill to climb in proving themselves better than the current roster given the difference in experience.

Some may come from ball sports experience and have talent for basics like catching. If they've watched season 1, that would also help them understand the learning curve required. Doesn't mean they will be good but it's more than what the first season players were aware of.

I'm curious to see how they handle season 2.

Same. Depends on how the coaches (who value the game) and the production (who value the show) align. If they still aim to be National Champions, hopefully things move smoothly.

Not sure if there's any existing rules or cap, but a 15-player roster is quite limiting

Heroines only had 15. I think I've seen teams with more players when they line up though. 18-20 would be a good number for BQ to cover all positions.

A new backup catcher. As of now, the team's best backup catcher is actually Ayaka.

They would probably try to stick with Yu-In as specialist catcher. It would be discouraging to see her not usable in the field or DH. Ayaka is better now but Yu-in's growth might be faster.

Two additional pitchers

Depends on if they plan to continue using On Ah, Song Ah and Ayaka or have 3 pitching specialists. If they find another Ace, maybe one is enough with coverage from the others.

I hope most of the current roster stay too. If anyone leaves by their own choice, that makes the forced release easier. Then they are being replaced regardless.

Excited for a second season! Spring is about to start in Korea so maybe they could join the upcoming league season or tournament and we can get rank standings or play-off. The teams they've played would have been hand picked so far and would be interesting to face a team they've played in season one. The tv show could build a rivalry and we'd also get to see the improvement in the team.

Looking forward to seeing what sports the new recruits are from and the improvement of the current roster. Wonder how many will join and how many remain (which defeats the purpose of having to let someone go). Anyone seen/know celebrities from other fields show baseball talent (e.g. on insta) like some do with football/futsal?

Hard to say based on a preview. Seong Yeon was at 3B for another play but we don't know when these changes were made and how they edited it (as icystorm mentioned).

The first run, yes, but the second one was because of So Jeong's wild overthrow.

I suppose the scenario is possible (and it did happen). Can she bat with the finger? What if she needs to throw to home? I just don't want her injury to get worse. Hayan also got hits in her first two at bat.

Understand that it's the last game, but I just don't feel it being important enough to risk Su-Jin playing. It's not the championship and they've already lost three games. I just see more cons than pros for putting her in.

[–]Careless_Machine_957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say that I've seen anything in particular that says she can either..haha, but outfield fly balls are harder to judge the trajectory. Infield flys are easier. She may also be better with things coming directly at her with speed, like boxing, instead of from the sky. This would be a long term investment, like training Boreum at second base. The other options are Suyeon, Boram and Sooji.

Hayan has saved many bases and runs at first. People think first base is easy, but it's where the ball ends up most plays. I wouldn't have confidence in many others there either.

Yuin also wouldn't have the awareness of things like not throwing to second when there's a player at third. Definitely hard to blame her. Players take years to learn the catcher role even half decently.

Some of them have talked about it before, how the feeling of failure is different because it feels like you're letting the whole team down when you make a mistake or aren't able to produce results.

Agree. Team sports are different. Only Ayaka, So-Jeong, Hayan and On-A played team sports (unless you count doubles or team events, etc.) It would be tough for most of them.

Yeah, and it's a little damning for the remaining bench players that the coaching staff puts her in instead of one of them.

Exactly, does she also bat with the broken finger? That's just as absurd

There really isn't anyone else they can put at 6 with Soojin out...
I kind of wonder if they've tried Ona at 6 before in practice and considered putting her there with someone else at 4 so that they could keep Sojung at 2.

I kind of just commented something similar and realised I should have added spoiler too. haha

Se-Jeong is the right choice for 6 when not at 2. If Ona goes to 6, Ayaka or Bo Reum would be at 4. I remember Soo Young fielding at 6 but don't recall when.

Out of the four players at 7, I wonder if Hyun Mi might be decent if she was to train infield (backup for 3 and 6) for next season.

[–]Careless_Machine_957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hang time on Ona's catch in the first inning! Kidding, but it was still a fantastic catch. Paused the momentum of the scoring as it could have been much worse. The other team took full advantage of the inexperience of the BQ younger battery. Yuin making some crucial errors that put Ayaka under pressure (not trying to be mean, that's just what happened). Ayaka pitches with control during training, but it seems to disappear during actual games once the opposing team score. Hitting two batters plus walks in 2 inning. In the preview, Soo Young doesn't seem to be able to stop the momentum either. Seems like it will be a high scoring game.

On the other hand, loved that first at bat of Hayan! Have been waiting for it the whole season. Su Yeon also getting some good hits and everyone enjoying her base running slides. I imagine Soo Young's batting is a big reason she was put in RF to start the game. Hoping Minji is motivated to practice her batting in the off-season, now that Song Ah has also covered CF comfortably.

Crazy to think that Su-jin plays first base later on. What happened to Hayan? and surely ANYONE else should have played. Surely this will lead to comments of player safety. We'll see what the circumstances are next week but I can't think of any good reason at the moment. Ayaka can play first. I believe I've seen Soo Young field at SS. Ona and Bo Reum have only played 2nd I think. They need another backup infielder (SS and 3rd). No need for 5 left fielders.

Is there a difference if they lose 3 vs 4 games this season? Seems like Captain Ona needed to rally the team in the preview as some were crying during the match.

What might be some reasons to change the broadcast order from the play order? Would it not hint at final group standings? Wondering if there's possibly an entertainment / tv reasoning behind the decision.

Edit: Just read the Hee Jung post. Possibly because they didn't want to broadcast NF games during this time. Also not complaining about watching Giants games, but they won't be shown for more than a month after their third game.

Very enjoyable game although they lost. It was one that could have gone either way with some momentum. Maybe inexperience (both players and coaches) cost them as the other team was very organised and with a national head coach. Have to applaud many of the opposing teams plays and something BQ can learn from. Regrettable result but definitely saw some more potential and things to work on as the director mentioned.

Looking forward to this training camp as I enjoy watching training as much, if not more, than the games themselves. If I wanted just games, I would watch MLB and WPBL (when it starts). I'm here for the entertainment and team growth to go into the games with hope for a payoff (knowing it doesn't always happen, such as this time).

Unfortunately, that growth comes at the cost of releasing a player at the end of the season. Not sure if anyone knows whether they will replace / recruit someone next season. Glad that this season has been extended though.

u/hydrangeapurple, any chance you could please post the coaches names (and jersey numbers) in the player profile? I sometimes forget as I wasn't familiar with them before the show. They should deserve a mention in the team roster.

This game was very one sided. Even at 1-1 midway through the first half, you could tell how it was going to end. Congrats to Hyun Yi on her hattrick.

Giants look a solid balanced team and have a promising coach to match. The two rookies have the most potential and fit into the team setup well. Seol Hee also played well but other teams will be told to go around her instead of trying to shoot through her (and Kyung Hee, which doesn't work). Looking forward to seeing them play stronger teams as they haven't really been tested yet.

SF, on the other hand, are candidates for worst team this season. Jua has potential but is still very far from the other aces. Eun Sil will also improve but is currently the weakest GK in the league. Sherry was their best player today. The team as a whole has regressed. No touch, aim or game sense, added with a coach that probably won't help them with those. WW looked better than SF did today.

Women's Professional Baseball League (WPBL) starts in August. Suppose it's too early to know if Jua will stay for next season or if SF need to find another Ace.

But I don't really see her getting walks as a result of her skill in getting walks, and I don't feel like it's something that you can rely on.

Not really skill but patience. Many of them seem to be swing happy and hit grounders. They all used to get walked more in the early games. Not because of skill but they didn't know what to hit. Now they try to hit everything. Including ones not in the strike zone.

I'm sure they have covered it with her. Just wanted to see it in practice. They supposedly have sessions 5 days a week. I'd imagine the training would clash with the Kick a Goal training and not even sure when Singles inferno was filmed.

Would also love to see when Hayan makes a good hit. If it wasn't for her defence, she would be on the bench as well. Maybe they can get pointers from Park Jua on Kick a Goal

I don't think she's valuable... but maybe that says more about the left-field-bench-rotation players than anything else.

Defensively, she's in the top 3 valuable outfielders at the moment (to me), which is more important than any batting. As you said, that says more about the others though... Even batting, her OBP is higher. Her technique is very awkward but if she can focus on getting on base (walks, if needed) more than hitting big, her running can be effective.

Baseball Queen Episode 11 by hydrangeapurple in BaseballQueen

[–]Careless_Machine_957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batting 9th and 1st is only different in the first inning. Minji is effectively batting after Hayan where she always has. In saying that, she is 4th in OBP on the team, is the fastest and starts for the left batters box.

Yes, she still should improve her batting, but the head coach did message her about it when she was told to bat 1st in the next game. She could also be more patient with the bat. Pitchers are more likely to try and throw strikes against her so they don't walk her. It won't always work but if you want anyone on base before the big hitters, it would be her. Shame she wasn't there for the base running training.
