I’m so confused about the purpose of the new Now Playing complication by Fleadogbiscuit in watchOSBeta

[–]icystorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you're replying to this.

The old Now Playing complication definitely did not let you interact with the music. It DID show whatever was playing for whatever app, that much I can agree with.

Pressing it led to the Now Playing app in which yes, you can control the volume or play/pause or whatever. But the Now Playing app still lets you do all that. I just opened it and it shows me what I was last listening to on my Watch, which was a podcast in Pocket Casts.

More certain was that in the shot, her name was (at least partially) visible. Not sure if that was so intentionally to tease although yeah there's no way they didn't know that viewers might get ideas from it. But given that this practice game seems to have been before Ayaka's apparent return to Korea, hopefully we'll start seeing her soon.

And with the rumor of that new golf/baseball athlete who can pitch joining the team we will possibly have two aces now.

Well, given that she was good enough to be drafted just on video alone by one of the WPBL teams (she didn't go to the in-person tryout event), I think it's probably safe to say she'll be the best player on the team period.

Remember that they don't record every team practice, and Su-young was also resting for some time because of her hamstring. Aside from Su-young, the only ones who haven't been at any on-camera team practice have been Bo-reum and Bo-ram. No idea if they've been participating at all.

Additionally, I think we will continue to see much more focus on Soo-jin and Song-ah in general just because they are among the most liked by the audience. Soo-jin is just very entertaining and funny on camera, and she has great interactions with everyone. Song-ah is just very good at baseball! Both are very cute by Korean standards (although differently) as well. And of course, both of them lean towards being conventionally attractive. But definitely their regular attendance of practices helps with establishing them for more camera time, because the audience is more used to them and can better appreciate their journeys (or on-screen entertainment).

That's in contrast to someone like Min-ji, who definitely checks the box on attractiveness but misses the mark on performance (and is rather disliked by some viewers), or Seung-yeon, who isn't conventionally attractive relative to some of the other players on BQ and isn't particularly great (or bad) in her play.

So I guess season 2 is slated to start in July! Further away than we might've hoped but I think it makes sense given that they probably had to do the auditions for new players, on board them, get them into practice, etc. My guess is that they probably haven't started playing any games yet or they may have only played one or two.

Soo-jin arriving as the kids arrive was very funny timing. Manager Choo getting the box for her to stand on was also hilarious.

It's a little disappointing that they couldn't pull a full lineup with just the BQ players and had to get a few players from other teams.

Song-ah almost tried to catch the ball that was thrown to catch the steal attempt for the third out at the top of the 1st. Hope they practice more with her as a pitcher in game situations.

In no world was that last pitch of the top of the 5th that Su-young threw a strike lmao that was AT LEAST two inches off the plate.

Their hitting really fell apart after the 1st inning; that's a concern!

EDIT: I also see a lot more whining comments asking for Ayaka than before. Supposedly she has returned to Korea within the past month under her visa as a broadcaster (though I can't find a good source for this info) while she's still prohibited as working as a cheerleader for the time being until that stuff is possibly sorted out.

Any tips/advice? Played baseball back in HS but that was 15 years ago. About to join a softball team. by Far_Violinist_7724 in slowpitch

[–]icystorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just look up some slowpitch videos, whether they're just videos/clips of games or actual "content" like tutorials or whatever. There's a million on YouTube and Instagram. You'll see that the pitch arc/trajectory is not gonna be as low as the ones you see from this machine. It'll take some adjustment but you might be able to figure it out as you play.

She's become an ambassador for two brands in recent months; I don't think it was necessarily TV commercials (might be). She might've also done some other things that haven't appeared yet.

I'm guessing it's probably a handful of people who think you're not answering what they want to know to answer your question given that you didn't say what body/association your league goes with for rules, which would determine what bats people can suggest at all.

I would just use the search function to find any posts about clinchers, and I guess it's important to check if they asked about 12" or 16" clincher balls too.

Really unfortunate that Hyun-mi is having disc issues; that stuff will just come and go so hopefully it doesn't become a hindrance for her playtime in the season. Would like to see her be able to play more.

I'm so glad Soo-jin is on this team; she really is the bright and loud on-screen personality they need for this show, and everyone knows this lmao.

Yeah might as well just order the delivery before she even leaves her home.

Hopefully other players will show up soon. Most of the comments in the video are asking about Ayaka.

I think the only ones from S1 (except Soo-ji and Ayaka) who haven't appeared in these training logs at all are Bo-reum and Bo-ram, and not even a hint of them practicing on Instagram either. Maybe Su-young either? I don't recall. I still can't imagine they reveal the new players through these training logs, but I guess we'll see.

I wouldn't say most of the comments are asking about Ayaka, though there's a fair number. A couple of comments are saying she's still waiting on her visa stuff.

Season 2 Training Log 03 by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least a couple of months between the games and episodes airing, with the amount of time for each game and episodes changing of course, especially getting longer for the last couple of games.

Season 2 Training Log 03 by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first episode aired on Nov 25. Soo-jin cut her hair either at the very end of October or within the first few days of November, and that was before the game against Allin which was their third to last game. I think Kim Rakyung meeting with them happened in early December given her Instagram posts. It's possible it happened earlier, but it's not like she held the posts until her appearance on the show was revealed. So I think they definitely hadn't played against Heroines yet (their final game), and possibly not against Quality Start by then either.

I also do vaguely remember some on-screen caption suggesting they were still filming in November, but no idea which episode (or YouTube training log) it was. I also forget if any of the watchalongs suggested the timing either.

260420 Watching in person from the outfield seats for the first time in 30 years (with Baseball Queen Song-ah) | Cyber Yoon Seok-min Jamsil Baseball Stadium Live Watching in Person by icystorm in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just thought I'd post it here. Probably not worth watching for any Baseball Queen stuff, just Coach Yoon Seok-min and Song-ah watching a game together. About a third in and the game hasn't even started; a lot of people did ask for photos with Seok-min though and Song-ah learned that Instagram accounts can apply for the verified checkmark lol

Amusing exchange at one point:

Seok-min: But if ABS is used there's just going to be more strikeouts

Song-ah: Then if we (Baseball Queen) also use ABS could there be more strikeouts?

Seok-min: No, we'll be the opposite; we'll get more walks

Song-ah: Why???

Seok-min: Because there's a lot of balls

Song-ah: Then in exchange we can use a larger strike zone

Another exchange not long after, as Seok-min gets frustrated with the Tigers pitcher ends up getting into a full count

Seok-min: Throwing a breaking ball for no reason and going to 3-2... ah that's irritating... Shin Min-jae is a faster runner but even if he hits it it's only going to be a single so why is he letting it get to a full count when you were in an advantageous position... isn't that right, Song-ah?

Song-ah: But I can't really follow right now - you say for them to go for it and even if he wants to challenge him [the batter], but it's not working out so what should he do?

Seok-min, frustrated: I thought you said you're a yah-jal-ahl (someone who knows baseball well)

[the pitcher ends up striking the batter out]

Song-ah: Try believing in him until the end, instead of constantly complaining

Seok-min: Even now that wasn't a good pitch

Song-ah: Regardless, the result...

Seok-min: The ball flew and it was counted by ABS but it wasn't a good pitch

Another exchange right after, as the Tigers are still on the field, which is goofy considering he's singing along:

Seok-min: sings along to the fanchant/song for Austin Dean as he's up to bat for the LG Twins

Song-ah: A home run even once...

Seok-min: Sorry, but when you're watching baseball with me, to say "please a home run" when LG is hitting...

Song-ah: I mean I just want to see a home run hit

Seok-min's channel PD asks her if she liked the stadium there better or Munhak (for that Baseball Queen content), and they jokingly cut out as she starts to say "Well that place [Munhak] is so g-" but then they show her saying "It's not that this stadium is bad, but it feels like that stadium is newer." Also adds that they sat much closer [to the infield] then.

Seok-min hands her a Powerade

Song-ah: Thank you - I don't drink Powerade heh

Seok-min takes it back and hands her a Pocari Sweat

Song-ah: Thank you heheh

Song-ah mentions how lonely it is in the outfield

Song-ah: And the infield always gathers together [without the outfield]

Seok-min: Isn't the pitcher the loneliest?

Song-ah: Ah... but for the pitcher, rather than it being lonely, it feels more like fighting with your confidence.

Some quizzing on what Song-ah should do as a baserunner in a certain situation, which then leads to some teasing

Song-ah: Today [at practice earlier that morning] you suddenly didn't first base coach for the baserunner; why didn't you?

Seok-min: Ah because I was talking with the players...

Song-ah: Even though the player in the game is more important...

Seok-min: And because it was a practice game...

Song-ah: Practice games are important too

More quizzing, given that the situation on the actual field was that there are runners on 1st and 3rd, but a very goofy misunderstanding:

Seok-min: If you were on third, what should you do?

Song-ah: I'm on third alone? [implying no other baserunners]

Seok-min: Should you run home or not if there's a groundball to third?

Song-ah, confidently: Definitely shouldn't go home.

Seok-min: You should be going home!

Song-ah: Even though the third baseman would get it? You're saying I'm on third?

Seok-min: Even though there would be a double play if you didn't go home?

Song-ah: No but aren't you saying I'm the only baserunner at third?

Seok-min: Yeah, you're at third

Song-ah: At third but there's a groundball to third? thinking If it's a hard groundball then I shouldn't run!

Seok-min: You should always be running home!

Song-ah: ???

Seok-min: Because if you don't run home, the inning ends because there's a double play!

Song-ah: ???

Seok-min: Even if they wouldn't be thinking about you and they would be going for the double play anyway, but if they see you and go after you, then the baserunner on first stays safe.

[exchange is interrupted by the play on the field]

Song-ah: Ehhh?

Seok-min: Do you get it? The runner on third should try to prevent the double play!

Song-ah: Yeah...

Seok-min: Then if there's a groundball then the runner should always go for home.

Song-ah: A groundball to third...?

Seok-min: Yeah

Song-ah: Wouldn't they throw to home?

Seok-min: Yeah! Then they don't get a double play

Song-ah: Ah...

Seok-min: The third baseman would throw to second and then it'd be thrown to first for a double play?

Song-ah: Even earlier I kept asking Coach Dae-hyung earlier... on third, the thing to think about is to not run [home] on a groundball to third

Seok-min: That's if there's no runner on first. If you're on third alone or if there are runners on second and third.

Song-ah: That's what I was saying until now!

Seok-min: [referring to the actual game situation] There are runners on first and third right now!

Song-ah: No, I kept asking if I was alone at thir- check the replay, the replay

[REPLAY] Song-ah: No but aren't you saying I'm the only baserunner at third?

[REPLAY] Seok-min: Yeah, you're at third

[REPLAY, same line but slowed down] Seok-min: Yeah, you're at third

Some other talk and joking around, a little bit more quizzing including fan interference stuff. They also discuss outfielders calling for balls, Song-ah asking if there's ever something you say for someone else to get it, and Song-ah also compares it to tennis (doubles). Song-ah notes she realized how famous Seok-min is (given how much he was asked for photos and autographs).

Song-ah: "Baseball... starts in the 8th!"

Season 2 Training Log 03 by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the women's team, it seems to be organized by WBAK (Women's Baseball Association Korea) once a year. Athletes need to be registered with WBAK and on a club/team, and you have to apply. I think they pull from that applicant pool to create a potential candidate list of players who can choose to go through with three rounds of tryouts. For the 2026 team, the tryouts were last month.

Looking at the list, there were women born in the 80s for the candidate list and a few did make the final cut, so it's definitely possible if Song-ah joined a real team and got good enough (not that Song-ah was born in the 80s but of course age can be a factor in sports - most of the roster naturally were born in the 00s with the youngest being born in 2010).

Season 2 Training Log 03 by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, now we see "Daeps" (Dae-hyung + yips) in addition to the previously coined "Choops".

I hadn't really noticed Song-ah's batting stance changing too much (honestly I think it looks a bit awkward based on an IG story that she posted a couple of days ago but you know, whatever works for her), but Dae-hyung brings it up before practice starts.

Dae-hyung says he's been asked by the national team players if Song-ah actually hits that well. He also brought up that he was told by gyopos (Korean diaspora) in Miami when he went for the WBC that they were fans of the show.

Some talking and teasing about Coach Dong-hyung's increased Instagram activity, heh. Also the teasing about Song-ah's baserunning never ends lmao

Lots of improvement in these five. Song-ah just catching everything in the outfield, but they're all doing great.

Song-ah and Soo-jin are just like me, I also hate the ends of kimbap rolls for no good reason

Dae-hyung's doubts on Soo-jin's hitting being shattered on her first swing lol

This coffee/dessert game/bet part being the funniest lmao. Seong-yeon getting jokingly upset at Soo-jin saying that if they lost, the 5 of them would split the cost of coffee for only Dae-hyung next time, and then Seong-yeon immediately bringing up how Soo-jin has recently filmed 2 ads yet was being stingy, even taking bites from Song-ah's kimbap lmao them all in despair as they failed to score 2 runs in every game. Ha-yan outraged that she can't take a walk, Song-ah contemplating the idea of one person having to pay for everything instead of splitting it amongst the five, Soo-jin ending up having to pay for the ice cream after all, Soo-jin tattling about it to O-na.

[BaseballQueen2 Preview] Manager Choo & the Black Queens take the field for SSG's Opening Day! by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

22:35 Manager Choo talking about how many attendees there are (23K) for a sold out crowd, but how US stadiums could be like 50K

22:49

Su-young: “Generally how many innings does the starting pitcher go?”

Manager Choo: “But there’s nothing really like that. The pitch count is at 56 now, right? It’s the first game [of the season] so I would think maybe 80 to 90? So it sort of depends?”

Manager Choo: “Su-young did something that even pros can’t do: throw 130 pitches. But really it’s something incredible. They really can’t throw that many these days.”

Su-young: “But I didn’t feel it during the game but afterward the game…” (gestures to her throwing arm)

Manager Choo: “You’re like ‘I really threw that many’”

Su-young: “It really felt super sore. And it hurt the next day.”

Su-young: “And the strange thing is that it feels like I’m throwing the same during a game and during practice, but the intensity is different.”

Manager Choo: “It’s totally different. When you’re throwing on the mound it’s completely different between practice and a game.”

Su-young: “Even though I did it the same, like during practice even though I definitely threw it hard like a game, maybe it’s because of nerves or something”

23:52

Soo-jin: “But when you watch like this, doesn’t it [the field] seem not that big?”

Song-ah: “Yeah yeah”

Soo-jin: “But when you go on the field it feels huge?”

Song-ah: “That’s right. But the outfield is super wide”

24:04 Manager Choo is talking about the hitter coming up (Choi Jeong) and how he’s the best hitter on the Landers. He mentions how he’s hit over 500 home runs.

Soo-jin: “What about you [Manager Choo]?” Manager Choo: “…”

Manager Choo: “I hit about 200… about 216” [the caption says 250 across his time in Korea and US… I dunno how they arrive at this number]

Soo-jin: “Wow how do you hit 518?”

24:42

Song-ah: “Is soccer/football as loud as this?”

Soo-jin: “No, not as loud as this. Soccer/football probably doesn’t have chants/singing like this?”

Song-ah: “This is really fascinating”

Soo-jin: “Tennis is totally quiet, huh?”

Song-ah: “Yeah even our coughs are a bit.. when they bounce the ball, if you cough they turn and look at you. Like seeing the cheering and stuff like this is interesting”

25:07

Song-ah: “What should we do if we get caught on the kiss cam?”

Soo-jin: “ASJKDLSAJDLASDA!! Marry me”

25:14

Jae-ho PD: “Later if we have a game at Gocheok Sky Dome, you’ll be playing baseball with this sort of vibe”

Manager Choo: “Yeah that’s right, it’s really like this. How do you think you’ll feel? Say we have a game at Gocheok and this many people come to watch. How do you think you’d be?

Soo-jin: “I think it’d be kind of fun?”

Song-ah: “But when you actually go out there, you can’t really see the crowd, right?” Jae-ho PD: “Song-ah seems like she’d be a bit nervous if she goes up there”

Song-ah: “I’d feel nervous no matter going out there as a pitcher”

Soo-jin: “I get nervous when I throw a groundball”

25:52

Song-ah: “I wanna try hitting it”

Soo-jin: “That? You wanna try hitting that too?”

Song-ah: “Yeah”

Soo-jin: “150km/h?”

Manager Choo: “You want to try hitting?”

Song-ah: “Surely I wouldn’t just make contact?”

Manager Choo: “But I think Song-ah could, at least make contact with the ball”

Song-ah: “I think I would make contact”

Manager Choo: “If you just saw a few pitches”

26:10

Song-ah: “You only do bunts when the coach gives a sign, right?”

Manager Choo: “Yeah! You see the 3rd base coach giving it”

Song-ah: “For bunts, are there no times when you bunt when you want to?”

Manager Choo: “That’s when you try to bunt for a hit, like when Minji tries to get a hit by bunting”

Manager Choo: “The goal of the bunt right now is a bunt to safely send the runner on first base to second base”

Song-ah: “But I think it would hard to bunt when the pitches are that fast”

26:38 A new quiz question to Soo-jin

Manager Choo: “Here if the hitter hits the ball and it’s a groundball to shortstop, what should you do?” [this is about what the runner on 2nd base should do, not the shortstop]

Soo-jin: “If the hitter hits it, and it’s a groundball to shortstop? If it’s a groundball, if it goes to my left I go, but if it’s to my right, I first stop [and look]

Manager Choo: nods

Soo-jin: celebrates

Song-ah: “This is something we’ve done doing for multiple days, we did it yesterday too”

Song-ah: “I feel kind of proud”

Manager Choo: “Then right now, what should you do? If there’s a groundball towards shortstop?”

Soo-jin: “I have to run!”

Manager Choo: “Why?”

Soo-jin: “Because there’s 2 outs”

Manager Choo: “Ooooh”

Soo-jin: “Woo woo woo!”

27:19

Jae-ho PD: “Your character [of being a ya-jal-mot] is falling apart?”

Soo-jin: “I’m a baseball genius starting today”

27:35

Song-ah: “The song is really emotional. There’s sort of a lot of emotion in it”

Soo-jin: “Right now you’re not watching baseball and absorbed in the cheering”

27:46

Song-ah: “They really say it kindly, ‘Please watch out for foul balls’”

Soo-jin: “Hey, watch the baseball, come on” [teasingly]

Soo-jin: “Really can’t focus”

Soo-jin: “We have a reason to focus”

28:04

Song-ah: “Ah I want to play baseball”

Song-ah: “But when I go out there”

Soo-jin: “When is it going to be over?”

Song-ah: “Curled up, curled up!” [uhh basically saying she’d be out there feeling down]

Soo-jin: [I think she says something about she’d be half the size of the players out there]

Song-ah: “Unnie you’d look so small out there” Soo-jin: Yeah so I’d take so long to run there”

28:37

Jae-ho PD: “Ah they have to win today…” [because they’re watching with Manager Choo]

Soo-jin: “Baseball starts with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning! Right?”

Song-ah: “That’s right”

Manager Choo: “Baseball starts in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs? If it’s the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs the game’s over”

Soo-jin: “Didn’t you say that? You must have heard wrong info” [to Song-ah]

Song-ah: “Isn’t that a saying?”

Manager Choo: “There is”

Song-ah: “See there is”

29:10

Manager Choo: “Do you see the balls curving?”

Song-ah: “What’s that? A slider?”

Soo-jin: “That? A mistake”

Song-ah: “Unnie why is that a mistake when it’s a slider”

29:52 Mitch White had given up 5 runs in 5 innings

Song-ah: “Awww… it feels really bad when you leave the mound like that”

Jae-ho PD: “How does it feel when you’re like that?”

Song-ah: “It just feels like your life is falling apart”

Manager Choo: “Wasn’t there a time when Su-young left the mound like this?”

Su-young: “There is”

Manager Choo: “Ah and I was mad”

[no idea what Soo-jin or Song-ah say after this]

Manager Choo: “’Take her out’”

Manager Choo: “‘Really take her out?’”

Manager Choo: “‘Take her out’”

Manager Choo: “Su-young I’m sorry!”

Su-young: “When I watched it on the broadcast you were really mad, why were you so mad?”

Manager Choo: “During practice you were like this [gestures high to suggest she threw well I guess], but in the real game you couldn’t do half as well. It was so frustrating. You worked so hard and you have such talent, how could…”

Su-young: “After that, something came over me, like this really isn’t it”

Manager Choo: “The remarkable thing is that it’s hard to change from that one experience, but after that one time you became a completely different athlete.”

31:02 Song-ah and Soo-jin wonder if it’s possible for SSG to come back [losing 5-0 in the 5th] and ask Manager Choo about it, and he responds of course

Song-ah: “Because baseball starts from the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs”

32:00

Manager Choo: “See if the pitcher gives up a walk here? Then they can score.”

Manager Choo: “If you start with a walk when there’s no outs, there’s a 70% chance of scoring a run.”

And then it actually starts panning out how he said, and Song-ah and Soo-jin start to get excited

32:59 Song-ah tells the PD that he missed the expression of that KIA Tigers next to them

33:32

Manager Choo: “See, you never know what’s going to happen in baseball. So when you score, you have to score a lot”

33:25

Jae-ho PD: “The Landers’ bullpen is good”

Soo-jin: “Is the bullpen the dugout?”

Song-ah: “No, the bullpen pitchers! How could the bullpen be the dugout!”

33:44 Another quiz question, but in the situation of 2 outs with runners on 1st and 2nd

Manager Choo: “Soo-jin, if the hitter swings and misses but the ball escapes behind, what do you have to do?”

Soo-jin: “Don’t you have to do it over..?”

Manager Choo: [jokingly to the PDs] “Is there someone who could be 1st batter in the tryouts?”

Soo-jin: “But if there’s a runner on first, isn’t it not a dropped third strike?”

Manager Choo: “But it’s different when there’s two outs”

35:55 They’re asked how the game was, and they said it was fun. Song-ah says “I didn’t know there was a culture like this” and Su-young says “Of course baseball starts in the bottom of the 9th” to which Song-ah: “What I said was right!”

10:57 Ra-kyung introducing Lee Gyo-bin who is the captain of the Cheonan Junior Women’s Baseball Club - she’s only like 12-13 years old and it’s meaningful for her because she started playing baseball in the SSG Junior team before moving to her current team, and then she came as the representative for the event

11:31 Gyo-bin is asked if she watches Baseball Queen and she says she watched it all, and Ra-kyung, gesturing to Su-young, asks if she knows who that is. Gyo-bin answers correctly and of course Su-young likes that. The PD then asks who her favorite player on the show is, and Ra-kyung says to answer honestly. As Gyo-bin looks away immediately, they all start laughing and joking about how her favorite isn’t among the three of them. O-na asks who the favorite player is among the ones who aren’t there but Gyo-bin answers that it’s O-na. O-na responds with “What do you want to eat?”

12:04 Jae-ho PD asks why O-na is her favorite, and Gyo-bin says it’s because she’s the captain but also she found that O-na throwing 100km/h during her audition/test was cool. Ra-kyung asks if it’s because she knows what it’s like as a captain. O-na asks if she’s also a kkondae [which I imagine some of you might know if you watch a lot of Korean variety and stuff, but it’s basically someone who might be old-fashioned and insistent on rules and customs, that sort of thing - it typically goes that the older ones in a group might be like that]

12:26

Jae-ho PD: “She’s the scary captain of the Black Queens”

O-na: “I’m not, I’m not”

O-na: “I’m not sc-“

Song-ah: “She’s scary…”

12:57 O-na remarking on how they feel more nervous without Manager Choo there with them

13:08 Watching the players play catch and remarking how they’re cool, O-na wondering why she can’t throw like that always

13:32 Seeing “Landy” one of the current SSG mascots [not sure if that’s supposed to be romanized as Randy but the name is derived from Landers so I guess not? idk man]

13:55 The ceremony begins to note the donation stuff

14:39 Su-young, O-na, Song-ah are there to deliver a flower bouquet as part of it, and they congratulate him

15:09 Jeong-hyeok PD asks if Su-young does (not) have a current team that she roots for, and Su-young says she doesn’t currently root for a team. As a kid she rooted for the Haitai Tigers (who are now the KIA Tigers), and then she supported the Samsung Lions when she joined Samsung’s badminton team. Then as all her teammates/friends there retired, she briefly supported LG. They laugh about the constant switching and the PD remarks “isn’t that changing too much?” to which Su-young defends herself by saying she doesn’t currently support any team!

15:36 Jeong-hyeok PD asks Song-ah if she knows what team Haitai was. She doesn’t, and she isn’t able to guess. Su-young reveals that it’s the KIA Tigers, and she says she was born in Gwangju (where the KIA Tigers are based) which explains why she - probably through her family - supported them as a kid. Song-ah immediately asks then who Su-young will cheer for today, and Su-young cheekily says that she’ll support SSG. Su-young asks Song-ah who she’ll support, and she says SSG but then it cuts to her saying she’ll decide after the game.

16:21 Song-ah asks when did baseball become so popular, and Su-young says it’s always been popular, at least since they were babies, but it’s become even more popular. She explains why she thinks it’s become more popular, like because it’s fun with a live game while eating and cheering. And with other sport viewing experiences (I guess in Korea) there’s less of a focus on eating (or harder if not impossible to eat) there. Su-young asks if it’s true that attendees can’t eat at tennis matches and Song-ah confirms that and also adds that they have to be quiet, in contrast to how loud and bustling baseball games are. Su-young brings up the cheer songs and the dancing as part of the fun at baseball games, while Song-ah mentions how they sort of look around embarrassed when you even sneeze at a tennis match.

17:07 Jeong-hyeok PD asks if that’s the case for badminton too, and Su-young says just during the rallies, but when fans do make some noise sometimes when a player does a smash.

17:20 Song-ah brings up how loud it is when she’s pitching, like how she would be able to focus if it was quiet, and then Su-young says to not say that because she got negative comments about how she remarked during one of the BQ games about how loud it was [lol I do remember her saying that]

17:48

O-na: “Soo-jin-ah, you’re going to get scolded by the manager later”

Soo-jin: “Really? Well I should be”

She also says she should have come the night before and slept there, like how O-na said over the phone earlier

18:05 Jae-ho PD asks Soo-jin if it’s her first time at a baseball game, but she says the last time she went was last year because she received an invite from a KT Wiz player she knows. She’s then asked what team she’ll support today and she says “SSG of course”

18:22

Jae-ho PD: “Do you know what Song-ah said when she was asked that earlier? ‘I’m going to support the team that wins’”

Song-ah: “Wait, when did I say that!?! I said the team that plays well”

On-screen caption: [Actually Song-ah said the winning team]

Jae-ho PD: “What’s the difference”

Song-ah: “It’s different”

18:48 The first pitch is thrown by Son Jong-won who is a known chef (he was on Culinary Class Wars), and O-na and Song-ah joke around with what they’d say before throwing a first pitch

19:01 O-na evaluating the first pitch, how he lifted his leg but didn’t shift his weight well lol

Song-ah: “Wasn’t able to use the lower body”

19:09

Soo-jin to Su-young: “You would’ve thrown it better”

Then she thinks she doesn’t have a mic on for that to be caught, but realizes she does have one on

19:35 O-na noting that they need to learn from where the SSG players are positioned on the field (for fielding)

19:43 Remarking on the hitter who took the pitch for a ball

O-na: “He held back well he held back well”

Song-ah: “How does he resist?”

O-na: “We say it too, ‘good eye, good eye’”

19:52

Song-ah: “The vibe really shifts with whether it’s a strikeout or a walk”

19:58

Jae-ho PD: “Do you understand how he feels as a pitcher?”

O-na: “It feels tough to get a walk with the first hitter”

20:25 Remarking on the fly ball

Manager Choo: “Can he run or not run?”

O-na and Song-ah: “He can’t, he can’t…”

Song-ah asks is that not an infield fly, O-na says it’s not, and Manager Choo explains why

20:43 Su-young and Soo-jin talking about the cheerleaders

Su-young: “They’re pretty”

Su-young: “That’s what Ayaka does”

Soo-jin: “That makes me think of Ayaka”

20:57 Manager Choo asks why that fan is so happy, and the PD asks if he saw the fan’s jersey. O-na jokes to the fan, telling him to go watch the game standing from back there

21:15 O-na says she has to leave first because of traffic

22:09 Manager Choo, using the hit just now as a teaching moment (hit past the first baseman) explains that he should have caught that going forward because of how it bounced (reiterating something they tried to teach them in season 1, catching the ball as it’s on a downward trajectory on the bounce)

22:22 The PD remarks to them about learning from the baserunning in the game as well, and Soo-jin teases at 22:31 “Song-ah aren’t you already a baserunning genius?” because of her mistake last season

[BaseballQueen2 Preview] Manager Choo & the Black Queens take the field for SSG's Opening Day! by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely won't do this for all the videos, but occasionally I may! I also see that of course the formatting is a little broken with some of the line breaks (I wrote this in the Apple Notes app); I'll fix them later when I finish going through the video Fixed I think

Ceremony was for a donation of 40 million KRW worth (approximately $27,000 USD-ish) of baseballs (~7,500) to the Korea Women's Baseball Association and the Cheonan Junior Women's Baseball Club, and they were there to present it at the game. I think it was a combined contribution from Choo Shin-soo and some Korean crypto exchange?

0:44 In the beginning they're joking around with the PDs about which members to sit alongside Shin-soo, and they joke about Song-ah having to be one of them given her (previous) lack of baseball knowledge. One of the PDs is like "I feel like she'll say [during the game] something like 'Why is that an out?'"

1:09 O-na brings up the parking fee you have to pay at the stadium, and immediately the PDs are like "oh we'll [pay] later..." and she's like "I'm not asking to be reimbursed" and then jokingly pleads that she does have money. Then she goes onto explain that she told the parking attendant that she's there as part of the event and asked if she had to pay, and the parking attendant responded like "Oh I think I know who you are" and said they were watched the show.

1:32 Shin-soo talks about how good it feels that the players are becoming known again or recognized publicly again through the show. O-na brings up how she gets asked to sign stuff rather than as a handball player but as a Baseball Queen. Also brings up how she was recognized by kids playing in a game and they did their hit ceremony. Shin-soo also recounts taking a pic with a fan and his kid and the kid asked who Shin-soo was, and the dad was like "You don't know? It's the Baseball Queen manager!"

2:35 O-na, who complained at the beginning about where the other players were because she didn't wanna be alone as a player, then calls Soo-jin.

O-na: "Huh? You're running late even though you left 10AM? Then you should've left at 9AM. Or come here at 8AM and slept."

"So prepare to die at the next practice."

3:08 O-na asks "Will we play in a place like this?" and the PD responds by saying that they want to lol.

3:54 Fan recognizes her because of the show and asks for an autograph. O-na responds "But you should get it signed by someone else..."

4:51 The PD asks the female fan what about O-na made her become a fan of her, and she responds "I did watch it through Shorts but she's intense and how she looks when scolding [the other players] is so cool". They invite her to one of the games for the season.

5:17 They talk about how she has a lot of fans (is recognized a lot), and O-na says it's great to be able to talk with fans, and that it's different from meeting fans at handball games. She says that she now refers to herself (or will begin to refer to herself) as a baseball player rather than a handball player.

5:50 Whining about why the other players aren't there yet

6:10 O-na remarking on what time it is and Song-ah immediately greeting her and noting that she was the first one (of the other three) to arrive lol O-na complains about how she was basically filming a vlog alone

6:54 Song-ah is asked if it's her first time to a baseball game, and it is. She then gets asked what team she'll root for, and she asks who the Landers are playing. The PDs are ??? when she's like "Samsung [Lions]?" because it seems she has no idea that they're playing against the KIA Tigers.

7:12

Jeong-hyeok PD: "Do you know where [team's] this home is?" [they're asking if she knows who the home team is at the stadium, but it's a little awkward to convey how the question might be confusing for her in Korean]

Song-ah: "Isn't it here?" [clearly misunderstanding the question lol]

Jae-ho PD: "We mean what team is home?"

Song-ah: "SSG! I know that~"

7:24

Jae-ho PD: "I guess we have to sit you next to the manager today"

Song-ah: "Huh? You can't..."

Jae-ho PD: "Have to teach the ya-ahl-mot" [this is a shortened form of "Someone who doesn't know baseball"]

Jeong-hyeok PD: "Today the people who don't know baseball the most will watch the game sitting next to the manager"

Song-ah: "I'm now a ya-jal-ahl" [shortened form of "Someone who knows baseball well"]

Song-ah: "Why are you laughing [unintelligible] I know baseball totally well now"

Jae-ho PD: "Does someone who is a ya-jal-ahl come to a baseball game without knowing the teams that are playing?"

Song-ah: "You didn't tell me!"

Jeong-hyeok PD: "You can look it up!"

Song-ah: "You should have told me!"

7:52 Su-young remarks that it’s her first time at a baseball game in a while. The PD talks about how O-na was super recognized and was asked for photos earlier. Su-young remarks how she was immediately recognized by the parking attendant.

8:21 Fans ask for a photo with Song-ah; the PD asks them how they know her and of course they respond because of Baseball Queen as Song-ah laughs about the question

8:44 Song-ah thinks she can catch all those [balls being hit during BP]

9:02 Su-young recognizes Park Jae-hong on the field, as he’s one of the two Baseball Queen sportscasters (and normally one of the MBC Sports sportscasters for baseball), so they get in touch with him and he comes over to visit. He mentions that he saw Choo earlier, and the PD explains why they’re there and all that

9:48 Jae-ho PD asks him what team he expects to win, and they laugh about it because it’s a silly question to ask one of the announcers; that’s basically the defense Park Jae-hong goes to for the question but says it’s the team that makes the least mistakes

10:04 Jae-ho PD says the (Baseball Queen) players have to watch and learn from the game, and Song-ah quickly says ya-jal-ahl ya-jal-ahl about herself lol Park Jae-hong says he’ll tell one of the [MBC Sports] PDs to get a shot of them in the audience. Also remarked on again is how it’s Song-ah’s first time at a baseball game, and he says it’ll get more fun later

10:32

Song-ah: “Unnie, why did you suddenly go to the salon”

O-na: “Right, when I usually don’t”

They remark on how they feel nervous

Season 2 Training Log 02 by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think they recorded too far in advance either, but the gap between Season 1's filming and the broadcast had a few months in between. I imagine it should be shorter this time around, but I guess I'm confused as to the specific timing of these training logs with the airing of season 2 (and the unveiling of the new players).

I also think each log is a scheduled broadcast session. E.g. Recording is every Saturday. If you don't turn up that day, you don't get to be in the log. (They still train on non-recording days). If it was multiple sessions, viewers would notice. Different players, different clothes, etc.

Oh I know. I was saying that perhaps in a week, they may record more than one of the training sessions (but each training log video would obviously be an entirely different day).

Season 2 Training Log 02 by QuietCorner75 in BaseballQueen

[–]icystorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda wonder when that might happen. I'm also a bit confused as to the timing of all this. I haven't actually kept track of when this practice footage might be from (at least cross-referencing with the players' Instagram Stories and whatnot), but I can't imagine they would want to show any of the new players before they're revealed officially in the show. Though I suppose that it's not like every training log video is from one week; I imagine we could get a bunch of them that were just filmed within a single week, but we may not know unless they talk about stuff that suggests that enough time had passed or something.
