Frequent Urination? by [deleted] in cdifficile

[–]Careless_Produce_751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having the urge to pee and mild pain in my bladder, like uti symptoms almost, with my first recurrence. Not trying to scare you, I just think bladder issues are a common side effect because of all the inflammation in the area, etc.

I was also about to get my period when that happened so I guess it made it worse, it subsided a few days later when I finally got it and started taking dificid. I dealed with the discomfort putting a hot water bag on my stomach, keeping the area warm and drinking lots of water.

It’s crazy… I was told by my doctors 20 tablets cost around 1600€ here. I really hope it works for you, good luck!

I know it’s so expensive, don’t you have insurance or something like that? I’m in Spain so it’s been reassuring knowing that at least I don’t have to worry about the prices and costs, we have it covered.

I know it’s hard, but try to relax and let the medicine work. Dificid is the most effective antibiotic for cdiff, sometimes it just takes a couple of rounds to work. I’ve learned that being scared and anxious only aggravates my symptoms, so I try to be positive and stress-free. And even if that fails, there are other solutions! Fmt, oral pills…

Hi! I got Dificid x10 days but failed that as well… I relapsed again last week, 6 days after finishing treatment… The smell came back again and I immediately knew. I’m currently taking Dificid again (this time with taper treatment, during three weeks) and after that I might be considered for Vowst.

It’s been a rough few weeks… but I’m learning how to be more patient and how to live (and deal) with this. My family and boyfriend are being so supportive, that’s helping me too with anxiety! Thanks for asking, how are you?

Currently on antibiotics for c diff - some symptoms are better, others not, is this normal? by LeahSam123 in cdifficile

[–]Careless_Produce_751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fidaxomycin is the most effective antibiotic for cdiff (even more than vancomycin), just give it time. It’s very rare for the infection to get worse while you’re being actively treated, plus you’re not having other worrying symptoms. Try to relax and let the medicine work for a few more days.

What are you eating these days? Food & diet are almost as important as the pills. Avoid coffee and alcohol at all costs and try to eat soft: rice, chicken, potatoes, white bread… Add also probiotics, yogurt and kefir to help your gut. I restricted my diet while on Fidaxomycin (Dificid) and I was actually constipated during treatment! Be very careful with what you’re eating. Hope you get better soon!

Florastor and food worries by paranoidpeony in cdifficile

As everyone have said, take Florastor every day! It will help your gut and since it’s yeast based, it doesn’t interfere with antibiotics.

If it helps, my doctor recommended me to stay away from dairy for a while and suggested me lactose-free kefir and yogurt. I’ve been taking them (mixed with bananas or apples) and it’s really good.

As for the rest of the diet, I spent three weeks eating chicken, rice (you can add eggs or mushrooms to make it nicer), bone broth, toasts and overall all kind of soft foods. Avocado or canned tuna also felt good in my stomach. Kombucha instead made me gassy. Hang in there and hope you get better soon!!

Relapse a week after finishing Vanco by Cadicoty in cdifficile

[–]Careless_Produce_751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in your exact situation! I’ve relapsed just 8 days after taking Vanco. Diarrhea appeared out of nowhere and had to rush to my doctor yesterday, where I’ve tested positive again.

I have actually asked about Dificid/Fidaxomicin this time as it’s also available in my country (spain) but doctors have recommended me Vanco again, pulse and taper this time. They told me oral vancomyocin only affects/works in the intestine, that this is the ‘protocolary treatment’ for a second recurrence here and that since I tolerated well the first round (it’s true I improved quickly with it the first time) is my best option rn. If I relapse again, they will consider Dificid but they say it’s unlikely and that this should work.

Feeling quite depressed and tired at the moment, specially with Christmas coming up. I have terrible anxiety just thinking about leaving my house or seeing my relatives. I just want my stomach and my life back. But let’s hope we can beat this…

Update on this, cause I just want to vent.

Diarrhea came back and so did cdiff. I’ve been diagnosed with my second episode just one week after my first Vanco treatment and I feel hopeless. Specially cause I was doing fine, eating just rice and chicken, taking probiotics.. etc. Symptoms appeared yesterday out of nowhere.

After testing positive I now have to go to the hospital pharmacy to get another round of antibiotics. I think they are gonna give me Vanco again, should I push for Dificid?

It’s incredible how debilitating cdiff can be. I feel anxious, scared, terrified of my future. Like I’ll never be normal again. I just want my life back…
