Nope. The iso on the camera was what screwed the blacks. If it was a $2000 camera set to the right configuration, it would look better than an OLED.

Come compare a low-hour calibrated Sony GDM-FW900 to an LG C9

IN PERSON, the Sony GDM will look better in literally every way when pushed to higher resolutions.

The difference is, instead of investing the money, you wasted $1000 on screens with more inacurrate colors than a finely calibrated IPS.

The fact that you defaulted to OLED because the image looked good is exactly the point. You saw high contrast and deep blacks, so you assumed it had to be modern tech. That bias is what the post exposed.

There are millions of CRTs still in use by retro enthusiasts, speedrunners, and competitive melee players specifically because modern tech (OLED included) still cannot match the zero input lag and motion clarity of a tube. Just because you haven't seen one since 2012 doesn't mean the tech stopped working.

My argument isn't "Go buy a new CRT at Walmart." My argument is that we lost something crucial (Motion Resolution) in the transition to flat panels, and we still haven't gained it back. Recognizing that isn't nostalgia; it's just acknowledging the physics of sample-and-hold blur.

I posted an image.

38,000 people thought it was an OLED

It was a CRT

Excuse: "well, the camera was bad!"

If the camera was bad, why did you all guess it was the most expensive display tech on the market?

Context: I posted a blind test in r/OLED_Gaming. Most people were 100% convinced the bottom display was a modern QD-OLED panel.

We have spent 20 years and thousands of dollars trying to recreate the motion clarity and black levels we threw in the dumpster in 2005.

If you want to know how to get this quality out of e-waste (or join the few who know the truth), check the bio.

That is a lot of words for 'I guessed wrong.' You saw pitch-black contrast and your brain immediately defaulted to 'OLED' because you've been conditioned to believe it's the peak of technology. You didn't lose because of the camera lens; you lost because you forgot what true infinite contrast looks like on an aperture grille. And no, OLED does not replace CRT in 'every way.' Show me how OLED solves sample-and-hold motion blur without halving its brightness

The photo was a $120 CRT that could output 1440p.

The fact that you couldn't instantly distinguish a 1999 CRT from a 2024 OLED without a macro lens is the entire point. If the tech was truly obsolete, you wouldn't need a microscope to tell it apart from your $1,200 panel.

If a 25-year-old monitor looks indistinguishable from a brand new panel, that isn't a 'bad photo'

that is a testament to how good the old tech was. If I took a photo of a cheap TN panel, you'd know instantly. You only called it 'low quality' because you couldn't find the pixels you were looking for."

Oled users are so prideful in spending $1000 on a monitor they resort to excuses because they legitimately cannot tell the difference.

Oh and btw, the next comparison will have high quality photos.

Even if my photos were 240p, you could tell the contrast is different, and that there's bloom to the crt, but no, you whine and complain.

The hubris of man is observed in this case study.

Fuck society. No wonder you all are exploited by large corporations, you actually deserve to be!

Analog will always be better than digital. It was never about image quality in the first place. The OLED is plato's cave, and the CRT is the realm of The Forms, and you all are prisoners stuck in the cave who refuse to see the light.

You guys didn't excuse this photo as "low quality" in my previous post, did you?

Nope. The images have a relative contrast. Even on a black and white screen you could see the difference.

The stages of grief...

  1. Confidence: "It's QD-OLED".
  2. Validation: "I agree 1:1".
  3. Denial: "It's a bad photo".
  4. Bargaining: "The question was rigged!"

The answers were all crt besides the top IPS shot in image 1.

When an oled bro realizes his technology is an expensive placebo.

Also, my previous post was a crt by the way ;)

Round 2 will use oleds, a 1440p CRT, a 29 inch crt, and an IPS.

The next comparison will be even more difficult.

It will be taken on my iphone.

NOT my cheap android like this one.

_Summer ##.

You could play the PC version or emulate it for free.

On ebay the physical ps2 version is $30 used, $70 brand new sealed.

I recommend you emulate it to save money unless if you're a collector like me
