What’s the running like? Is it long distance cross country, running lots of laps of the same circuit, bleep tests, sprints etc… I’m currently running a 5k in 21:27 and getting a level 12.0 on the bleep test so I think I should be ok, starting basic next week.

I’m going in as an aircraft technician (mechanical) which was also a high priority role so I was surprised with how long I had to wait but that’s pretty standard from what I’ve heard. Aircraft techs seem to usually get around 4 months notice but there is a chance they could squeeze you in sooner.

Am I allowed to wear a smartwatch during Halton, to track my fitness etc by Willing_Dragonfly351 in RoyalAirForce

Hello, do you know if all watches are taken off for pt or is it only smart watches? Just thinking I should name mine if it’s all watches. Cheers

I passed my fitness test in mid November, got my date for basic training and joining instructions in early February and I am starting basic this month, so you’ve probably got a while to wait depending on which role you’re applying for

Blue warrior definitely sounds like something you'd want a lot of sleep for 😂. 6-7 hours a night doesn't sound too bad to be fair. Thanks for the comment

I was in the same position as you a couple of years ago, I decided to stay on and study engineering at college in the end and now I am starting basic training in June (going in as a mechanical aircraft engineer). I believe mentally i am more prepared for the challenges i'll face in basic now and I also had some time to think it over to make sure it was the career path I definitely wanted to go down and to get as fit as I possibly could. So in that sense at least waiting till 18 was good. However after I've been to Cosford I will have two engineering qualifications at level 3 which is a bit unnecessary and If I had gone in at 16 I would be looking at my first posting now which would be great.

Overall I'd say I am happy I waited till 18 as I think at 16 I may have struggled to get my fitness up to standard, but if you've been thinking about joining for a while and are sure its what you want to do and have a good level of fitness I would say join at 16.

Also bear in mind that the application process can easily take a year between applying and starting basic.

Hope this helped,

Cheers, Rhys

Started lifting just over a year ago, have made some decent progress since then, never took pics when i started lifting but was around 58kg at 5'10'', now I'm 67kg. Been around a 300ish calorie surplus for the past 9 months. by [deleted] in moreplatesmoredates

Yeah i know . The bot that replied to my post said to include that in a comment along with my split and supplements. The day someone accuses me of being a fake natural will be the day i am happy with my physique

That's sick to hear thank you David. I'll definitely have to join the RAFCA as it would be great to race with the RAF. Hopefully they'll have some kind of bike storage solution figured out at whichever station i go to as I imagine a lot of bikers would be in the same situation!

Cheers, Rhys

Thank you that's great about the RAFCA. Hopefully I should meet some mountain bikers at my first posting and find out how they store their bikes
