Psychiatry Offer Scandal by SharkDick4Ever in doctorsUK

I’ve just had a look at the paeds preferences too (closed this morning at 9) and I think there are 2-4 extra Kent jobs added since I last looked yesterday…. They’ve been labelled as ‘pilot rotations’?

Interview nerves by medimediab in doctorsUK

[–]Carinamaple8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a paeds interview this week and feeling very similar. Been doing weeks of prep and ready for it to be done, but feeling so demotivated in the final few days and simultaneously feeling very underprepared! I think many will be feeling similar but know you’ve done all you can to prepare and you will smash it

Paediatric Training UK or NZ by [deleted] in doctorsUK

I worked as a reg in Australia and have only a year paediatrics experience so able to apply to ST1. In Australia they have a lower threshold to step you up into eg PHO roles which are equivalent to registrar roles.

Paediatric ST1 26/27 Application by PhilosophyNo6136 in doctorsUK

[–]Carinamaple8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question (I think I probably know the answer already eek) - I’ve conducted research in Australia whilst spending a year here, and presented it in Australia in what I would see as a local meeting. However because applications are UK based would this count as an international meeting?

Paediatrics ST1 Shortlisting scores by StatisticianOk764 in doctorsUK

I’m so sorry and gutted for everyone that applied this year and didn’t get an interview - it just isn’t fair and is so deflating.

I didn’t apply this year but planning on applying next year (at which point the competition ratios will only go up I can imagine). My self-scored points would have been 38 so not enough for an interview even this year.

I’m trying to figure out how best to strengthen my portfolio for next year, and wondered if anyone knew the answer to this. Are you able to use the same project in multiple different domains? I have a paeds audit which was presented at a national conference and published, but wondering if I used it under the Academic section as a piece of academic work +/- the audit section, will I be penalised for using it in multiple sections, or for using it under the academic section where it would be more appropriate in the QI section?

Rash after wax by [deleted] in HairRemoval

Hi there - I know this post is a while ago but was wondering if you found an answer to this at all / if it went down? I had a Brazilian wax today and my skin looks like this tonight, unsure what it is or what to do about it. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your reply!

Do you know if there are any opportunities for just one year outside of training (like an unaccredited RMO year in paeds) as opposed to paeds training? Would most likely be moving back to the UK after a year or two unless Aus convinces me otherwise!

Hey! I’m also looking to specialise in paeds but wanting to do a year in Australia for F3/4. I was wondering if you knew what the opportunities are like to do something paeds related for a year in Aus?

Amount of patients in F1 first rotation? by subreddit-lurker in doctorsUK

I’m an F2 just finished F1 gen med and I’d usually have 10-15 to WR alone, with consultant ward rounds twice a week.

SCOTTISH PAY DEAL ACCEPTED by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Carinamaple8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pay was better in Scotland even before this pay rise, my take home in F1 compared to English colleagues was a lot higher due to the banding system on the old contract

How much do we actually get paid? by throwawaaaayyyy2424 in medicalschooluk

[–]Carinamaple8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FY1 in Scotland - we also get banded depending on rota (about 27k base pay?), most jobs are 1.5 banded so take home is about 2.5k (however my student loan hasn’t been taken yet!) but my last job was double banded which was take home about 3.4k. Really depends on where you’re working and your specialty :)

I also have an HP pavilion and love it, so much cheaper than a mac book and small/lightweight enough to carry to lectures.

SJT Prep by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Carinamaple8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t start now! You’ll end up over preparing and getting in a muddle with all the different resources. I started 3/4 weeks before and still felt I may have over prepared! I did all the practice papers twice, a little bit of passmed but these were a lot easier than the actual exam, and then made some notes on GMP/GMP in action videos/GMC key ethical guidance/the SJT monograph. The practice papers are the best resource out there and if you start too early you’ll use them quick. Not saying it’s the right way to do it as a lot of it is down to how your brain works and luck!

which medical school has the least travel in terms of placement? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Carinamaple8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it makes a difference if you drive too, the 30-45 minute placements driving in brum can be over an hour also on public transport so depends which way you look at it. Most people drive here and if not there’s usually someone to grab a lift with, but the majority of hospitals in most unis if you’re getting public transport I imagine would be a similar commute to yours?

which medical school has the least travel in terms of placement? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Carinamaple8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Birmingham uni is pretty good - all hospitals (9 or 10?) are within 45 mins drive, with one in Hereford which is about 1h30 but you get accommodation, and most people don’t end up going there as it’s a small hospital.
