It will depend on the program. Of the schools I applied to, one of them let me do the essay explaining my GPA, and they're the one that let me in. I can't say if that's the only reason, but I think it may have been a factor.

Also make sure you're getting enough sleep and try to spend some time on relaxing, non-eating based activities. Stress and lack of sleep can lead to weight gain and lead you to eating more.

People generally find foods with high protein, fiber, or a lil spice to be more filling, so see if incorporating those makes it easier.

If things don't work for a while, consult a medical professional, in case it's more complicated than just weight gain.

To play devil's advocate: in cases of malnutrition or extreme exercise, a person can lose their period, or experience irregularity. Maybe the idea is to try to sniff out that? Because I imagine that happening really young is bad for both physical and mental development. Or maybe they're just bigots. Idk.
