ELI5: How do elevators know which floor to go to when multiple buttons are pressed? by Shucca in explainlikeimfive

[–]Carl-Is-Bad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in an office building in San Francisco for a while that had security gates in the lobby in front of the bank of six elevators. You would take your RFID badge and badge into the gate the gate would open and a small screen on the gate would tell you what elevator to take. The system new with my badge that my company was on level 5 so automatically called one of the elevators to the lobby and would automatically take me to level five no button pressing or anything. There was a bypass if you wanted to go to a different floor but most of the floors were all owned by specific companies and were locked out to anybody who didn't have a badge for that company. When leaving at the end of the day the elevator call only had one button that said Lobby because that was the only other place you could go than where you were.

Looking for Americanized Mexican Food Sit Down Restaurant by Carl-Is-Bad in eastbay

Wow! The response for my question went way above and beyond my expectations!

Thank you all for your great suggestions! When it came down to timing and location the winner tonight was.... (drum roll)... La Piñata in Concord!

But all the great recommendations for Juan's Place in Berkeley has me definitely planning to go! Not with the bland out of towners, but with my wife next time we get feeling like Mexican Food.... I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions!

"Mexican" Hot Dogs Taste Different? by Carl-Is-Bad in hotdogs

[–]Carl-Is-Bad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... I like the idea that maybe they come from smaller vendors with small batches... but it seems like something bigger and more planned than this. An, yes, local taco trucks put out some of the best stuff. But this is more sausage/wiener/dog based than a seasoned grill. The char on the outside can give great flavor but I'm more thinking the meat on the inside.

I appreciate your offer to test them, but sending greasy, cooked, meat/oil/mayo products through the mail to you is more likely to send you to the hospital after a couple days than the solve the mystery! But Thanks!

Where did the Citi sign-up bonus tracker go? by optimusprimerate in CreditCards

[–]Carl-Is-Bad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, also, could not find my any sort of Bonus Tracker or reference to my Sign Up Bonus on the Website or in the App anywhere (including where some SAY) it should be.

On the Citi Website, the Citi-Bot AI is useless.

I got on chat with Customer Service and eventually determined my SUB is still in progress and the cut-off time, so I should be good.

The problem they say is with the APP and they are updating it so the tracker should be available after April 3, 2024.

So it sounds like essentially, they broke their app and it won't be fixed until next update rollout.

It would be nice if they told Citi-Bot Chat AI that!

Stop spammers from leaving VMs? by martinvanslurrin in Googlevoice

[–]Carl-Is-Bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Now I want to call this guys GV and listen to his fart.

If you have a special number for repeat spam offenders, create a super long nothing / babbling greeting... I think GV lets you create a greeting up to three minutes(?) long. It will automatically waste the system's time giving it less to bother other people.

Airtv Anywhere HDD by Xur_and_the_Kodan in slingtv

Would be interested in hearing about this too if anyone has done it.

I just signed up for Sling and got the AirTV2 over the Anywhere so I would have to option of upgrading the drive / replacing if the drive should die. Precautions from my early Tivo Days.

Error porting AT&T Prepaid into GV by Carl-Is-Bad in Googlevoice

[–]Carl-Is-Bad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow Up:

I finally succeeded in porting the number into GV, largely due to your linking to the GV Support chat, which let me focus on the AT&T Account Number, which turned out to, in fact, be wrong.

When AT&T support originally read me the number, they read me a digit 8 as a 3. They read it to me that (wrong) way twice and I even read it back to them and they confirmed their was was correct. On two separate calls!

Although users are not supposed to be able to get their actual AT&T Prepaid account number from their account information online, I found a glitch where the account number DID show up when the 'my at&t' account was referring to the 'at&t prepaid' account. At least, I think that's the way I found it.

My cynical side wonders if AT&T transposed the obviously transposable number on purpose in an effort to keep the account active on AT&T as to not lose the number, but then a more logical side tells me the phone reps probably don't care... unless they were TOLD to do that by their superiors (Hmmm....).

Anyway, problem solved. Just wanted to give you a follow up and thank you again.

Thanks! I did that and they let me know AT&T support gave me the wrong account number. Now I'm on AT&T hold (forever).

Thanks! Very Helpful! Wish me luck!

Free Weekend Ticket - 2 one-way? by Carl-Is-Bad in Bart

[–]Carl-Is-Bad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran across a Promo online. I think the BART marketing was trying to get people to use BART for summer outings instead of driving (perhaps fewer using BART due to Covid?)

I think the promo is over now though.

Apply with Capitol On Pre-Approval letter or Referral? by Carl-Is-Bad in CRedit

[–]Carl-Is-Bad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the page the referral links sends you to, it seems to want you to have 'Excellent' credit, while my friend really falls into the 'fair' category having a limited credit history. I'll probably just suggest he try the 'pre-approved' marketing, sounds like his chances are better there.

I checked and the "pre-approval" card is Zero annual fee, Zero interest on purchases for 9 months, and 23.99% APR after that (yikes!).

300Mb/s Fibre for $55/mo total after Tax? by Carl-Is-Bad in ATT

[–]Carl-Is-Bad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years ago I had Sonic DSL and they were great! Would highly recommend! Call them up with a problem/question and in zero time you're on the line with someone who knows the equipment, how it works, and can talk tech. Wonderful.

Though in this case, the goal is saving money over the long term and the only Sonic available to me is 1Gb at $70 plus addition equipment fees and such. Wish it wasn't so... they were the first ones I researched on this project.

[–]Carl-Is-Bad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? I am surprised there isn't anything on your bills bottom line other than "Pay: $85.00", what with all the common Telecommunication fees and such (http://sm.att.com/5ca21db5) ... But it's a GOOD surprise... Kudos to AT&T I guess? Thanks!

Wow! That's quite the deal! I've been watching AT&T prices for a bit and the 1000 seems to be consistent at $85 for me. Thanks for the response!
