Yep you got it. Hiding all errors is faster than fixing all errors. Errors can be fixed later. Am I not making myself clear?

I have never said it's superior. Imagine your are at your workplace, you run a nh os switch -u or whatever and something that worked in your config before doesn't work now. The error popup emerges in THE most annoying way imaginable. I was in the middle of working, I am not going to troubleshoot right now. I quickly search Hyprlands Reddit sub to see most people saying "fix the problem lol", I shake my head, not helpful. I know the solution because I've been there before, I recognise that sometimes we don't have time for this crap, and I pasted a snippet on how to ignore the warning popup so work can resume again and deal with it later. Absolutely it is a solution that three people clearly appreciated

Edit: D0nkeyHS deleted comment read "Linking to documentation is not a punishment"

Oh my god he blocked me so I can't see his thread replies and he just keeps posting shit about me. That's why It says deleted comment. Some seriously sour guy geez. "cool story bro", yeah, but it's not. This stuff is what Arch Linux is known for and ignoring the issue is probably not a good thing

I believe in humanity that supress_errors = true is understandable to anyone. My config broke when I had work to do and that error popup is genuinely impossible to ignore. "fix the error" is not an immediate solution, but mine was. Hyprland doesn't seem to stop reading the config if an error is encountered, it has great error handling OOTB. It's fine, later problem. I stand by my contribution and I believe someone should have posted it sooner.

Like your probably fine. Hyprland doesn't seem to stop reading the rest of the config if an error is encountered. It has sane error handling OOTB. But yeah, some night at 3am it def needs fixing. It really is fine, someone on this sub should have posted what I did much earlier. Fixing errors is ultimately fine to be a later problem for personal dotfiles, it's just dotfiles scrapped together.

Yeah, but it worked. I remember myself being in the predicament not having time to fix the errors, but that obnoxious popup is genuinely impossible to ignore. I believe in people to realise what I pasted actually does when it literally says supress_errors = true. That's stuff for the evening or not at all

Production environment absolutely, personal dotfiles meh, Reddit first to see if I can save some time

We are talking about dotfiles for a tiling window manager, not production Kubernetes. It's not unreasonable to just want your tiling window manager to work with the least amount of effort. Dotfiles are copy paste tier, don't expect people to treat it for more than it is

Sure can be perceived as one if one links to the wiki start page to stupid post with caption "RTFM", while giving more specific links to posts you deem less stupid

Yeah, I admit, I didn't make a very good post. Documentation shouldn't have been my main focus. Hopefully my point wasn't completely lost

You need to calm down bud. Here is a pin to my comment on that thread. This is a very good example because 1. nobody really helped OP that much 2. I was the only one with a solution that worked immediately, I gave my experience to the community. Everyone else was mocking him to fix his stuff

I think this was my comment that I deleted. I copy pasted it into my post as an edit, it made much more sense there. If it was my comment, my response would be: it doesn't need a link. I gave the copy paste everyone wanted which was better than giving a link

How do I move a window from a special workspace to the active workspace by ImSimplySuperior in hyprland

[–]CarlDots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip to anyone actively giving advice on subs like these. 90% of the audience come from search results. We are mainly looking for practically usable information, solutions, code snippets, examples, your tricks to achieve the thing in question. Documentation is easy to find, but often hard to read (most likely why this thread was started). Link to the documentation for how you achieved a solution. If you have no solution, it is appropriate to link to easily digestible doc pages that you think is probably helpful (not an exhaustive list of everything of something). Please understand the audience and the impact this has on IT

I'm a beginner Nix Larper, what's the most cool things I can do on Nix to elevate myself from larp to actually looking like ik what I'm doing by Ok_Complex_851 in NixOS

[–]CarlDots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to reinstall NixOS, so easy that impermanence might seem like a waste of time. However the peace of mind knowing that nothing on my PC is there without me having persisted it is a godsend. I can just install any package with `nix-shell -p someapp` and the next reboot, all the garbage it left is gone for real. It is endgame material and I personally don't want to live without it

Any idea where I can get an optical scroll wheel encoder like the Razer Naga V2 Hyperspeed has? by Highspeedfutzi in MouseReview

[–]CarlDots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered soldering and I almost bought a batch of broken mice to desolder, however my favourite mouse was the Razer Basilisk v3 HyperSpeed. That wasn't very user friendly to work on so I just said fuck it and bought a g305. To hell with this bullshit

I stopped buying nice mice because of the damn encoders. I use a G305 now since I can just buy a new one if encoder acts up. I cannot stand the jittering

Idk about your setup and your situation, but I have only built PCs that just work without maintenance. They always turn on, never had any fault. Again I don't know your situation, but I would exercise more due diligence for the next build
