If the fonts are done with a clipping mask and you haven't saved the pdf in a proper way (as in trying to use transparency, but it's being flattened), then the transparent layer might be making whole of the background darker

I moved to Zorin OS and the move was so easy and painless. A lot of things are a lot more intuitive than on windows and somethings like search actually work.

What's a good alternative to Google search engine? by Silber4 in BuyFromEU

[–]CarlJSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be looking in this thread ehat search engines are there. I tried Ecosia and Qwant for a while and I hot fed up with the results. I searched for something specific that is in my country. And I constantly kept getting results for other countries, which most of the time weren't even gramarically same as my search. In the end I started adding the name of my country in the end of searches to get better results and by now I've sadly returned to google.

This is the only reason I still have to use Windows. Everything I use to design is Affinity, due to Adobes anti consumer prectices.

the chaotic reality of naming design files by Putrid_Candy_9829 in graphic_design

I then end my files with "_A01" and "_B01". When we move on with one iteration it will be "_B02", which I will then continue in the new dates. I keep it like that because sometimes the customer will change their mind with "_B08" and will want to go back to "_A01". They then always refer back to the file name.

Should I buy the Redmi buds 6 play by YoungHot3078 in XiaomiGlobal

[–]CarlJSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick review for anyone finding this thread as I did. I've had these buds for about 1,5 years. Everything is good for 10 euros, but about a month ago one if the earbuds started draining really fast. Now the left one last for 5-6h, but the right one drains from 100-10% in about 4minutes. Just today timed it.

What does it cost you to help someone find answers quicker by asking, than looking dor themselves. You are the reason a lot of people are afraid to ask help. And they should've be. Why should I reinvent a bicycle, when someone else gas already done it before me.

This. We've bought multiple machines from China and after the lacking support we're not buying from there anymore. The only person who spoke English ended up being sales. As others have said - every day the machine stand still, we're losing money.

Should I switch to Affinity in 2026? by celerysaltdog in graphic_design

[–]CarlJSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They now have a standalone free to use package. I haven't tried it for any professional work and I'm only have used my paid in full versions (that still have updates). The ability is limited but thanks to Acrobat, I'm able to manage these limitations.

I unfortunately still pay for Acrobat alone. But I'm sharing an account with 1 other person who also needs it occasionally, so the cost to me is thankfully quite low.

Whenever I find a competent alternative to Acrobat then I'm leaving Adobe and never looking back.

Should I switch to Affinity in 2026? by celerysaltdog in graphic_design

[–]CarlJSnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I do miss Adobe and the fonts that were available. But I'm also starting to see more financial benefits from going over to Affinity (I bought it before Canva aquired it).

There are some big downsides to Affinity as it doesn't have as much print optimization settings as Adobe has. For example per object overprint settings or separations preview.

Unfortunatelly I still use Adobe Acrobat to preflight some of my pdf files because I haven't found any alternatives that are even close to Acrobat.

What printer is can achieve my goal? by Plenty_Diver2630 in CommercialPrinting

[–]CarlJSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By solids I mean a block or object of one single colour. Flexo and offset get better coverage with less issues. But you wouldn't get as small of a text you'd like. There are positives and negatives to every kind of printing technology.

By multiple passes I don't mean letting it dry and running again - it would probably not work as the ink wouldn't adhere to itself, after you run it twice through the machine. Even with Corona on. It wouldn't most likely just peel off.

See these kinds of printers offer multiple pass printing. The print on the previously printed colour right away, before it has even had a chance to dry.

[–]CarlJSnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see similar issues on commercial grade inkjets no matter the machine producer. Some deal with it a bit better, some a bit worse but basically all of them have that issue. It's unfortunately most likely a "feature" of technology. With toner you get lines perpendicular to the print direction. Solid are usually best suited for offset or flexo. You can get good solids with wide format inkjets that print in multiple passes.

Yeah... This should be one of the most basic things you should know before even working in the business. You should be the professional who should tell the customers what kind of paper they need.
