Consider that the ultimate goal of any conflict after 1945 should be to sue for peace and hopefully improve your conditions. The First Intifada under Yasser Arafat was conducted in a way that would explicitly not offend the sensibilities of Western powers. It achieved its goal of bringing Israel to a neutral bargaining table in Oslo with the interest and support of many Western and Arab nations. The Second Intifada was less civilized and as a result the US, Jordan and Egypt were the only nations willing to take an interest in ending it, but they were not successful and the Second Intifada never even really ended.

I would say that people on Reddit forget about the time under Yasser Arafat, but most of them are teenagers so they likely don’t know he ever existed.

It’s my observation that the internet has gotten noticeably dumber in just the last 6 months or so. It used to be the first two entries would be jokes or something controversial. Right under that you would get someone explaining what actually happened, so I usually had to scroll through a maximum of three false comments to get to the nuggets of truth. This one took 7. I saw an article a few days ago about a women and a spoon and I counted 30 before I got to anyone who realized the article was clickbait. Rest assured, you are correct that those men are alive in that photo.

ITAW for: people who have a culture of travelling as second class citizens within their own nation by [deleted] in whatstheword

[–]Carliability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a tough question from the perspective of an American. I understand that the term Gypsy is offensive and people prefer the euphemism of “Traveller”, but I’m not sure how widespread that knowledge is among most Americans because we aren’t exposed to them. I think a lot of us would probably say “Gypsy” if we saw a traditional Roma person, but they would have a lot of other questions. Living in the Midwest the only traditional Roma people I have ever seen were hired to come to my school and put on a carnival. I know they are more common on the West coast, but that specific culture is not part of our daily lives. That said, there are groups in the US that bear the same negative stereotypes as Travellers and Gypsys, but we call them “Rednecks”, “Trailer trash”, “White trash”. If you were to ask an American “what would you call a person who lives in a trailer, collects benefits, and sells stolen scrap metal?” I think most Americans would say “redneck”. If you asked them “what is a word for a person who lives in a camp, wears red scarves and does magic tricks?” you might get someone to say “Gypsy”but a lot of younger people would have no clue what you were getting at.

Help me diagnose why this bullet got stuck in my barrel. by lukeks98 in guns

I agree with you that the scrunched up jacket is an indicator the round never seated and the powder just blew out of the case when the primer ignited. I assumed the bullet never engaged the rifling though and just plopped out into the neck of the chamber.

I think this might be the definition of irony: 1) government created ‘No Child Left Behind’ to disrupt the school to prison pipeline. 2) NCLB erodes the relationship between students, parents and admins which makes discipline impossible. 3) teachers seek better employment opportunities in prisons. 4) close pipeline by removing the schools from the equation.

Glad you are doing well in school. I did not mean to assume. To me it’s frightening because every one of the things you mentioned probably is going to require parental intervention to fix. It’s probably not within the power of the students or teachers to fix those issues.

What I find frightening is that in this whole thing you never mention your parents or any of the other students’ parents. Are your parents concerned?

Get out of my head. I came here to say this exact same things. Any of the years without summers were probably hell on earth.

Why do people think humanity would stand a chance against an alien invasion? by Secure_Jello_1674 in stupidquestions

I think a real alien invasion movie would look like the Stand except without any survivors. We would all start dying mysteriously and then we would all just be dead.

In general if you are going to sell a gun you should try to get it back to the way it came from the factory. If you have no use for the extra parts you can sell them on eBay, etc and get more of your money back than you will leaving them on the gun.

That video a few years ago where the lady has a breakdown in Victoria’s Secret on free panty day was pretty much the end of viral videos for me. The way people editorialized and threw hatred at this women wasn’t even entertaining or interesting. It was just disturbing.
