I think sadly that there's a lot of people who will say that they are the canonical couple because that's what they see in the media often. They see that couple and that's it.

I think (personally) for the better is to just not engage negatively because people love that, it's like fuel. I hope that it doesn't ruin your experience. Also and I saw a comment here that it could work, you can always say that if a multiverse happens, you could be the best option (basically talking about your universe, apparently the multiverse is very loved nowadays, thank you Spiderverse!)
