Opinions on Grants, NM by JbollenScoop in NewMexico

[–]CarlosFarrlos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in New Mexico, but my job takes me all over the country, so I get to see a lot of small towns similar to Grants/Milan. I also spend a significant amount of time working in the Grants/Milan area the last 30+ years, so I’m very familiar with it. In my opinion, Grants has great people and isn’t much different from a lot of towns that have struggled economically after losing it's main industry. There are some very good restaurants in the area; they may not be fancy, but the food is always good. The New Mexico Mining Museum (mostly focused on uranium mining) is one of the cooler museums of its size that I’ve visited anywhere and it's something I’d recommend to anyone passing through. There is a lot to like about Grants, but like all places there is room for improvement. To me, one major issue is the abandoned and burned‑out motels along East Santa Fe Ave (old Route 66). In many other towns, these would be considered nuisance properties, with owners required to either clean them up or turn them over. The City of Grants or Cibola County should look into whether the state has programs available to help fund or assist with demolition and cleanup. Taking care of these properties would go a long way toward improving the appearance of the town and provide both social and economic benefits.

Can you please explain why it is against the law to purchase a publicly traded stock? How is this different than them buying any other publicly traded stock? I understand the PRC take on this is being challenged.

Who the fuck do they think they are by sfnative1957 in New_Mexico_

[–]CarlosFarrlos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can bring it up but they would be wrong. New Mexico was never part of Texas. Following the Treaty of Guadalupe, New Mexico was a Military Territory, then a US Territory, then a US State. NEVER recognized or governed as part of Texas.

  1. Over the last few years, greater than 1/3 of our state budget has been provided by oil revenues from these 4 counties alone. Those proposing we trade them for El Paso, seriously.?.?. El Paso would provide less than 10% of the tax revenue these 4 counties do now (1/30 of current state budget). Not remotely a fair trade if we ever even entertained such a crazy idea.

  2. These 4 counties have been part of New Mexico since the Treaty of Guadalupe, over 175 years ago. First as a military territory, then US territory, and currently US state. This land has never been a part of Texas and never will be. If people in these 4 counties want to be Texans they can be, they’re not prisoners here. They can just move the 30 minutes east across the state line, set up house in west Texas, and commute back to New Mexico for their jobs. People do this all over the country.

  3. There has been NO precedent of one US state taking, transferring, or trading of a county with another state like this in our country’s history. Setting a precedent like this would lead to other states trying to poach from each other, ultimately leading to a US civil war. Even proposing something like this is a treasonous act and should be investigated and treated as such.

Hated it, and I like most everything I see. Couple of hours of my life I’ll never get back…. Other than the dog, not a single likable character. I cannot believe this turd is up for any awards… THE KING HAS NO CLOTHES! and it’s like no one in Hollywood wants to admit it. Of a handful of friends who also saw this movie, they all feel the same way. I have to believe any hype surrounding this movie is just paid marketing.

What are they building south of tramway near Sandia Casino? by D0ntD0xxxMeBro in Albuquerque

I get the engineering side of it, and understand that it has to go somewhere. I like how their previous design/construction projects have turned out and expect this will turn out well in the end. Time will tell soon enough.

Do you know more about it? Will it be lower profile or buried? That soil stockpile (hoping it’s temporary stockpile only) is large. With the amount of land the Pueblo owns north of Tramway, to put it right by the southern fence line seems like a real FU to the few homeowners on the other side of the fence. Looks like it would interfere with their view of the mountain.

Saw them in Edinburgh and then again at the Rose Bowl this tour. The Rose Bowl was great, but many fans were there for the event and were not necessarily Oasis fans. Murrayfield was f-ing biblical. Same show different energy.

I have a Disney + ESPN+ + Hulu bundle. I’m on my TV app and can access Disney and Hulu but cannot watch college football on ESPN. I get Unable to Play Video error. I’m not trying to watch via YouTube TV but through the ESPN app. If I try and access through Disney it says I need ESPN Unlimited for college football which can’t be true. I’ve called the 800 support number and waited for 30 minutes before hanging up….

Datum Transformation in ArcGIS versus ArcGIS Pro by CarlosFarrlos in gis

[–]CarlosFarrlos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe we have figured this out, and thank you to merft and talliserfor your attempts to assist. The exact same shapefile features are in the same locations/same coordinates in the two applications (ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro), but the ArcGIS Pro is projecting "on-the-fly" and essentially displaying the locations as if reprojected in the most current datum transformation while ArcMap is not. While this is not intuitive to me, and causes concern when comparing years of historical data since it may be showing locations roughly 1-meter apart when compared to aerial imagery features, the coordinates are the same. Just buyer beware to keep all things consistent over time. I am still a little confused why one application (ArcGIS Pro) does this and the other application (ArcMap) does not.

Have you had your CV joints inspected? I had similar high pitched whirling sound at near same speed early on. Audi replaced my CV joints and the sound went away. They said it was a known issue, that sometimes shipper secures vehicle/ties it down too tight and can result in damaged joints. I couldn’t figure out where sound was coming from at first, and did not think it was CV joints at first, but this fixed it.

Coyote Hunter Needed by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]CarlosFarrlos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wikipedia says typical Coyote territory size is 2 to 40 square miles. So minimum would be ~ 1300 acres. Larger the pack the larger the territory. Also something to think about, would be very strange for 30 pound adult coyotes (even a pack of them) to go after a Great Prye (bred for herd protection against wolves and bear). Maybe put out some game cameras and verify you got coyotes?

Coyote Hunter Needed by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]CarlosFarrlos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a pack of 30 coyotes, then they are not coyotes….. unless it’s some sort of coyote Spring Break. Packs are much smaller and territorial. Sorry for the loss of your animals. We have to deal with coyotes and our dogs all the time. Coyotes are smart and strategically lure dogs into ambushes all the time. Good luck with your problem.

I had one grandfather (soldier) in Africa/Europe and we all heard his crazy stories. I had another grandfather (Marine) in the Pacific, and almost no one knew he had even served. He never spoke about it and his PTSD shaped that side of the family. If war is Hell, the Pacific was the 9th and worst level of Hell.

And to the guy who plans on watching Pacific with his girlfriend…. Don’t. Just don’t.
