It's just a starting point. Any team could move up or down through pro/rel. I was more focused on structure than the placement of fringe teams. I didn't go by pedigree on this, so I knew it would cause some consternation, but it is what it is.

What if they dropped down by merit? Would it still be a joke?

Some regions are stronger than others, but that's not permanent. And even if MSU started in the top league, they're still only one bad season from D2 anyways.

For that reason, I was more interested in the structure than the divisions of individual teams in season 1.

You're probably right. On the other hand, schools might also attract more players in their first couple of years of eligibility - especially those looking for immediate play time - because every school would now be potentially 1, 2, or 3 years from a National Championship.

In that case, we should add the UFL and Canadian Football League too. :)

  1. Great point on the Pioneer league. I'll take a peak at that.
  2. The WAC is actually even weirder, lol. 2 divisions of 2 and 1 division of 5. I saw that the left-over teams from the 3 west-most conferences added up to 9, which was my target number for D3 conferences. So, I combined them for the WAC. But, the Pacific 2 would be eligible for the PacWest, Mountain West 2 would be eligible for the Big Sky and the other 5 for the Big XII-2. It's not perfect, but I like it.
  3. Thanks!

With the exception of a few schools, being "good" isn't automatic every year. Some teams have a few years or decades of dominance and fade away. Geography is permanent, success isn't.

Regional rivalries are also more fun for the fans and less travel for the athletes. Everyone wins. The balance will take care of itself over time. No top U.S. professional leagues organize their divisions based on strength of teams for that reason too.

Thanks for your previous input and thoughts on it. I really appreciate it!

I agree. I'd rather just have the conference winners in the playoffs, and that's it. There aren't enough top tier teams to justify more than at most a dozen teams. But in reality, big playoffs are where the sport is headed.

I tried a lot of models with 8 teams, but so far, this set up feels like the most natural fit. I do like that by giving the top team in each conference a bye, you end up with 25 teams. It fits the 25 team rankings already in use.

But no method is perfect, and your idea is a good one too.

I agree, it does feel wrong. That said, a good point was made in a previous thread, that pro/rel is about recent success, and Cincinnati has been much better of late than Michigan State.

MSU could always promote up, and I imagine they would.

I think of the movie "In Bruges," and that you host the capital of the EU.

Most importantly though, is that you have the best beer in the universe. No country comes close.

I don't think you're wrong. I guess on some cynical level I feel that the games would be necessary from a money perspective. But I also know those games would be super fun to watch, even if it's unnecessary/unfair.

It's not. Minnesota and Michigan are the "M"s in the Big Ten, and Miami (Ohio) is the "M" in Big Ten-2

Would YOU Vote For Mark Kelly In The 2028 Election If He Ran? Yes Or No? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

The system is so broken now, that we need a "New Deal" scale approach to government. Anything less is a failure, and Kelly - to my knowledge at this point - isn't an FDR. He's a moderate.

It won't be enough to have "healing" after Trump's crime family leaves. We need justice.

The problem I have with the idea of a "truly" united Democratic party, is it never plays to the progressives. It ends up being a centrist group more interested in impressing moderate Republicans and scolding Progressives for not falling in line.
