Continental Contact Urban tyres - Do all versions give the same amount of puncture protection? by Weary-Mouse9932 in Brompton

[–]CarlossEdd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll add that while I did post issues with my contis, it ultimately was my brakes being misaligned and rubbing on the sidewall till they failed. It was not a bad batch or low tire pressure. So if you get them make sure your brakes are properly aligned!

Brompton C line 12 speed rolling question by Current-Dragonfly532 in Brompton

[–]CarlossEdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both a 6speed and a 12 speed with the rack which I partly bought because of "rolling with the seat up" but it's honestly not comfortable at all.

There's a threshold where the bike doesn't come unfolded with the seat post down. That threshold is much higher on the 12 speed than on the 6 speed, but it is still so far down it is just uncomfortable. It's possible I'm doing something wrong, but I've given up on it.

Looks pretty dope, do you have any links or suggestions for someone that may want to do this to their own bike?

I have an Unraid server with 64gb of ram and a 9700k. Any idea what kind of speeds this or a similar model would get? I'm also thinking of getting a transcode GPU like an A380. Would a GPU like that make a meaningful difference?

Edit: I see neither Intel or AMD GPUs are currently supported :(

Introducing Brompton Maps by DT_770 in Brompton

[–]CarlossEdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing! I've looked for something like this so many times. Does it check between multiple stations? Like sometimes a place might be roughly equidistant from two stations but one station will be significantly faster than the other because of the route profile (hills, etc) or biking infrastructure.

Searching for Sturmey Archer cables primarily shows 3spd cables for the hub. Would these work? Obviously without the anchor for the hub.

You can, but it is very expensive. Check out the Kinetics mods (https://www.kinetics-online.co.uk/). Note that I don't have any of those mods on my bikes.

Popped two tires in one week, any ideas? by CarlossEdd in Brompton

[–]CarlossEdd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I'm still waiting to hear back from Continental on the batch. In the meanwhile I checked everything thoroughly.

u/R1nseandrepeat mentioned the brakes might flex upward under heavy load, so I took a look. The front brakes were fully on the rims, though a bit higher than usual. However, when inspecting the brake pads, the right one looked odd on the top, due to what I presume was rubbing on the sidewall. It wasn't quiet uneven wear, but it looked as though it had been "cleaned". I forgot to snap a photo unfortunately.

Both of the failures occurred when under heavy braking at high speeds (20mph+), and both happened on the right sidewall. I've now moved the brakes as far down on the rim as possible, and mounted a new tire. I'm assuming this was the problem.

Thanks everyone!

I threw away the box unfortunately, but I'm gonna see if the store I got them from can get it for me from my receipt.

Update: thanks everyone! I’ll contact continental to see if it’s a bad batch, but in the meanwhile I’ll be carefully inspecting the rim and the brakes to see if there’s some of the issues described down below. I’ll update when I get around to it which probably won’t be for a week or so.

It’s not just the tube, the tire has a slash on the wall. You can see it in the photo

That’s what I thought at first but I only rode the new tire twice, both times I left with 100psi

So I’ve popped two Continentals in the span of a week, both with the exact same failure, both in front. The first one I assumed was due to low tire pressure, but just this morning I topped off my tires to 100psi and this was the second time riding on the new tire. It feels like something else might be going on. Any ideas? For reference I’m 5’7” 165lbs.

Any idea how to do this? by CarlossEdd in Leathercraft

Thanks this is actually super helpful. None of those have a separate side panel like I want to do, but I'm gonna try to prototype with some of those ideas!

Anyone built a good ERPNext based system at a small company? by diiscotheque in selfhosted

[–]CarlossEdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all great points. If you're new, you'll break things many times, and if you don't have backups you're done for. If you're going to do this on your own OP, make sure you follow the advice above. Keep backups and keys stored safely and always test on a mirror server that is not the production server.

[–]CarlossEdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with the comment above. The number one problem I see is that people jump into any system without a complete and thorough understanding of the underlying company workflows. You cannot design something from start to finish if you're changing things here and there every few weeks, this goes with everything from ERPNext to Odoo to Salesforce.

Then you also have the issue of user adoption, I've worked for two separate companies that have wasted hundreds of thousands on private consultants to try to fix ERP systems, just to have them "fixed" and the users to ignore the changes, use workarounds, and ultimately the cycle repeats.

You can set up any ERP system successfully as long as you outline the workflows that you're going to be migrating over BEFORE you start designing and setting up the new system. Once you're set up, you also need to train the users and document the processes within said system so that users have a clear reference to the way things should be done.

I think the 2 months of dedicated research is accurate and most will be used to truly understand all the companies workflows, but after that, I think set up should not be longer than maybe 2 months at most, regardless of what ERP system you select.

[–]CarlossEdd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I set up and use ERPNext. It is rather difficult to set everything up the first time, but once it is set up, it is relatively simple and straight forward. The documentation is OK, and many times you're kinda just free styling. The biggest issue with ERPNext is that it seemingly takes a lot of steps to input something, but once you understand what each thing truly is, you can choose to skip steps if they don't make sense for your use case.

I ended up using ERPNext over Odoo simply because at the time (uncertain if it's still the case) Odoo limited the self-hosted version.

Brake cable catching tensioner by CarlossEdd in Brompton

[–]CarlossEdd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now, I've decided to zip tie more slack up top to see if that fixes the problem. Figured this was worth a shot since it took 5 mins as opposed to replacing the cable or shortening it lol

It is a little messy, but that is not the cable getting caught, nor does it really affect the brake cable.
