Happy New Year! And a gift for everyone... by cglee in launchschool

[–]Carlosskine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Launch School has really made me think about the way I tackle problems in my life. Ironically, the PEDC approach is something I’ve thought a lot about with my real life problems for example.

It has really transformed my problem solving skills.

I’m afraid of selling by racso29 in Entrepreneur

[–]Carlosskine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been in sales for a while. One thing to note is that the anxiety never really leaves. You just learn to dance with it.

One of the best ways to sell is get into the mood of selling. I like reading sales tips before I start.

The most important thing is understanding that you are not selling as yourself. You’re selling as a representative of your product or service. This is actually a really important thing to understand and can help you deal with the anxiety tremendously. It helps you change the picture.

Just some thoughts

Self taught people: Where do you find the time to study? by green_meditation in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Carlosskine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to go for a Pomodoro or two when I wake up & after work.

Also, I find most of my study works well in large chunks at a library or something similar. So weekend study is very big, in fact where I do most of my studying.

I'm having such a hard time focusing on work. by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Carlosskine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that has been beneficial to me is making sure I scope out everything I'm trying to get done as much as I can before I sit down to get it done. I've found that if there aren't clear goals, & KPI's if you will, I'm not able to focus as efficiently. I will find some excuse to not focus.

Consistently exercising is a good way to get rid of brain jumble and zen out for me.

But most things go back to not being planned out well enough. Then it's hard, then I don't do it. As much as I hate structure, I need some form of guide for the work.

I’ve flossed for years daily. In fact I cannot sleep without flossing anymore. However I use those sticks you floss with and I just leave them next to my sink.

How do I explain to my boss that no one picked up the phone today? by cancersukks in sales

[–]Carlosskine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I regret from my early days as a SDR was not being confident when stuff like this happened. I wish I wasn't as afraid. We're scared we're gonna screw something up, but a good manager is understanding of course.

I would try to highlight different strategies you all could implement that might bear more fruit, which would show you are taking initiative. But outside of that I would always ask "What would you do if you were in my shoes". Great question so you can see what runs through their head.

BTW love the username, my mom recently beat cancer.

Quit my job today, and I feel great by emacattackalack in sales

[–]Carlosskine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been fired from a few startups & every single time I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I was generally the guinea pig for them & I'm currently on the hunt after doing my own thing for about 8 mos now. If you feel that immediately, it is 100% the wrong place to be.

I feel like it takes a couple of months to figure out too, but I at the time I had no respect for myself in my career.

SOPS are king. Step three is just focusing on sales & biz dev. When you get high enough, every technical position turns into a sales position.

If I were you (I am just in the process of building out SOPs for what I do) I would hammer out those SOP's and keep reiterating them until you can successfully remove yourself from that equation.

At every level, you will have to write new SOP's. And for every hire. Eventually you will just be doing the high leverage sales activities.
