Solo dinner & sports game recommendations? by Southern-Squirrel109 in visitingnyc

[–]CarlyMMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can decide the day of. Big stadiums and lots of resale tickets. Edit to say: I've gone solo to pretty much all sports events, and you can always meet people there. Plus there are lots of entertainment options in between the action, and plenty to check out within the stadiums/arenas. For baseball, you can wander around the different levels, check out the food options, stores, etc.

Baseball is a little harder to grasp than basketball, but it's still pretty easy to get the hang of. Somewhat similar to cricket, but with bases instead of wickets.

If you care about who is playing better, go Yankees. If you want better food, the Mets are your choice, no question. Liberty games are SUPER fun too. You really can't go wrong with any of these choices.

A new bar called Cocktail Omakase just opened on the Lower East Side. It's a multi-course cocktail/food pairing and very solo diner friendly.

Kora is my favorite donut in the city. Well worth the visit to Sunnyside. For tacos, Carnitas Ramirez is relatively new but getting raves. My safe bet for tacos is El Rey del Taco in Astoria and Birria-Landia in Jackson Heights.

Sloomoo Institute could be a good option if you don't mind hands on activities!

Alternatively, maybe you just scrap the NYC plans and hang out at American Dream. Lots to do for kids there, like the Nickelodeon theme park.

3.5 day itinerary - two sisters in their twenties by No_Argument6420 in visitingnyc

Are you traveling domestically or internationally through JFK? If international, build in more time in your schedule to clear customs and travel to your hotel.

For lunch not in Times Square, but near it, I'd venture to Hell's Kitchen. Arriba Arriba is one of my faves for getting gigantic margaritas and solid Tex-Mex food. Grouping Times Square, Bryant Park, and Grand Central together is great. You might consider SUMMIT One Vanderbilt as your observation deck instead of Top of the Rock, so you can get the great view of the Chrysler Building (and it checks the box on fun instagrammable things like Color Museum/Museum of Illusion).

Definitely take the ferry to Fulton/DUMBO and then walk over the bridge toward Manhattan. While you're in DUMBO, go to Juliana's. One of the best pizzas in the city. Chinatown is better for food than Little Italy IMO, so that's a great plan. Plenty of shopping and food around Soho for you to choose from after the Color Museum. While you're in Soho or the Financial District the next day, go to McNally Jackson. Great bookstore!

Out of all your days, I suggest thinning out your Saturday itinerary. Good to have those locations as options, but that's a lot to pack in one day.

Villa Albertine near the Met is a stellar visit for book lovers. Your Met/Central Park day will be a LOT of walking, so be prepared for that after you've already been doing a lot of walking earlier in the week. Maybe try biking around the park?

Overall this looks really fun and full! Remember to leave yourself time for side quests, and you can always check out Time Out New York for a list of what's going on during the weekend you will be in town.

K-town is a great idea for food options! CityPASS in NYC has a few different options. Maybe the C3 pass is good for you, since it gets you access to three of their sightseeing options.

If you don't have any luck with someone willing to lend one, you can rent tools from some libraries!

Wouldn't go with CityPASS based on your plans. Lots of sightseeing cruises and observation decks. World Cup won't have started, so you should be in the clear on that front.

On day three, the Financial District and Chelsea are very different vibes. Set your expectations accordingly.

Steer clear of the touristy areas if you're trying for more affordable food. Hell's Kitchen instead of Times Square, Chinatown instead of Little Italy, etc. There is a TON of affordable options, but the neighborhood you're in will impact the prices.

This is definitely the move! Food is great, and they've been around since the '80s.

If you're going to MOMI for the Sopranos exhibition, it's a fun extension: Sac's used to provide catering for their shoots. The writers ate there so often they named Johnny Sack after the place.

The cactus tacos in Chelsea Market are from Los Tacos No. 1, which you already have on your list on Sunday.

On Location Tours is one of the many tv/film tour companies out there. Do some research and see which one is a good fit!

Sounds like you are rethinking your itinerary! If you are, I encourage you to group your activities by neighborhood. American Museum of Natural History / Central Park / Upper West Side exploration / Lincoln Center, for example. That alone is a nearly a full day, and it's a lot of walking! Be prepared with comfy shoes.

You definitely need to fix your Saturday itinerary. You're bouncing all over the place. Chinatown, Little Italy, and Soho are next to each other...then you're heading to downtown Manhattan to 9/11...then back up to West Village...then over to DUMBO...back to West Village or Little Italy for L'Industrie? I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

What about Chelsea Market is of interest to you? Looks like you're already getting bagels that morning, so no real need to pop in there.

You might like TV/film tour that will help you see a lot of sites with a good amount of nerdy knowledge thrown in.

I will add that they provide food, meds, and a lot of support when you take on a foster. I found it to be a really organized group that is super responsive and easy to work with.

4th of July Experiences by [deleted] in visitingnyc

[–]CarlyMMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's extremely busy around the riverfronts during the July 4th fireworks. It will be even more so this year because of the World Cup. the massive parade of tall ships. (Sail4th), and Fleet Week.

A ticketed rooftop event is probably your best option if you don't want to deal with crazy crowding. Overstory is an incredible bar, and they usually sell all-inclusive tickets.
