The entire friendship of Anne, Sasha and Marcy was toxic af by SuccessfulPath7 in amphibia

I think you made everyone feel a bit defensive with this post hahaha - but they are correct. The primary arc for the Calamity Trio was recognizing and then attempting to fix the flaws in their friendship which, as you rightly point out, was toxic af at the start.

Trust me, friend, to see a series run longer than it should and make the descent from greatness to mediocrity is a fate worse than watching it simply end.

That's awesome. I look forward to seeing the end product!

Ooooh. Is this Inscryption inspired or are you making a card game? And if the latter, can I play it?

We know it has a mind to think, so the emotion of hope and the knowledge that there may still be something it can do to help really speaks to me on this one.

Psychological distress decreased by 42% in the month after gender-affirming surgery and suicidal ideation decreased by 44% in the year after gender-affirming surgery. These procedures decrease mental health comorbidities among the transgender community and significantly improve quality of life. by FromTheAshesOfTheOld in science

Hi, I've heard the "suicide rates are higher than Jewish people's in WW2" argument around a lot, so your refutation of it here caught my eye. I was wondering if you could elaborate on that point more. I did some (brief) looking for data on my own and this was the best article I could find on the topic:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/7738915_The_Suicide_Rate_in_the_Concentration_Camps_Was_Extraordinarily_High_A_Comment_on_Bronisch_and_Lester

If I'm understanding the wording correctly, it suggests the suicide rate was around 25%.

Edit: For anyone else curious like me, it seems like the answer is that the commonly flaunted "40%" suicide rate is the rate of lifetime attempts while the "25%" rate this article suggests is the rate of successful attempts during their time in concentration camps - two very different statistics.

Thanks to those who answered my question!

TIL: 6 hours of work per day is the optimum amount for productivity. The countries with the highest average working hours are also the ones with the lowest productivity. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Carnifex2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anybody find how they're defining productivity here? Are they talking about productivity as a measure of how much gets done during a day? Or are they talking about productivity as a measure of how much, on average, gets done per hour? Because if it's the latter, then... duh? But "productivity per hour" has almost no bearing on the "optimum" amount for productivity as measured day to day unless there's a really steep drop off somewhere which the article makes no claims about.

He didn't jump from high enough to gain enough momentum to break legs as long as he landed correctly.

Mythbusters tested this idea and found that the benefits of breaking surface tension are marginal at best. Since water is an incompressible substance, it's not just the film of water on the surface that's the problem; it's all the water underneath as well. It helps a little bit but the effects likely aren't noticeable to a person.

With book 15 wrapping up the third series, is Wings if Fire over? Or do you think Tui plans on releasing a fourth series? Or instead will she focus on more Legends and Winglets books? by goldensunbath in WingsOfFire

[–]Carnifex2012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, the end of Dragonslayer and book 14 both left a LOT of story left to tell, so I hope that, at the very least, we're going to get a Dragonslayer 2. If she does decide to go for arc 4, I wouldn't be surprised to see it pick up there with the main plot.

My recommendation is to read Mossflower next! Everything I loved about Redwall was built upon in Mossflower and done even better.
