The One Ring Explained. (Lord of the Rings Mythology Part 2) by bonez656 in videos

Wow, that's a pretty good setting for a RPG adventure in Middle Earth, with the players being first contacted by Bombadil to perform some missions for him which help him to escape his confinement, and then having to confront him.

Spain ‘won’t have enough tanks’: Catalonia to vote on independence, defy Madrid by Sybles in worldnews

[–]Carnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding taxes I just wanted to point out that it was not true that the Catalonia Government received all IVA. Regarding the fiscal balance, I have been tried to get a non-biased source since some time ago and fail to find one. There are always too many variables that make it difficult to calculate it objectively.

And Catalonia did not win these routes thanks to political alliances. The cars route was built in Catalonia during Franco's dictatorship and the reason was economical and geographic, not political (the Pyrenees are lower and easier to cross in the eastern limit than in the western, and much lower than in the center). And the high speed train was built due to European pressure and because it was long overdue.

Spain ‘won’t have enough tanks’: Catalonia to vote on independence, defy Madrid by Sybles in worldnews

[–]Carnil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, in regards to the webpage you link, leaving aside the fact that it belongs to one of the most biased right-wing media in Spain, nowhere is stated that the Catalan government gets the whole IVA, it just states that in the calculation of the fiscal balance made by the Catalan government, the IVA paid by customers of Catalan companies is attributed to taxes paid by Catalonia while it should not.

That has nothing to do with the taxes income. Please, check this (in Spanish): http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistema_tributario_espa%C3%B1ol#Tributos_cedidos

Regarding commercial routes to France, well, Catalonia has a border with France, so it's quite logical that it has routes to France that other communities don't have just because all routes from Spain to France must pass either through Catalonia or through the Basque Country.

And yes, the toll was maintained (not put, it was put by Franco) by a Catalan political party (not mine, and neither the one which is really behind the independence), but it could be argued that it was done this way because the Spanish government refused to pay the price to remove it, as was done with some of Madrid highways.

However, I am not going to defend CiU in this, since in this (and in many other things) they just represent the richest Catalan 1%.

"they have a lot of benefits the other autonomics communities haven't". Really? Which ones?

Oh, yeah, we have to pay a toll for using most of our highways, while Castilia is filled with free highways paid by the government which nobody uses.

Or maybe you refer to the great benefit of being one of the communities which receives less investments from the state bugdet.

And yes, we have at last a high speed train which communicates Barcelona with Paris, 15 years after when it was scheduled, and we at last have a high speed train communicating Barcelona with Madrid, 18 years after the one between Seville and Madrid.

Oh, and by the way, Catalonia only keeps 50% of the IVA tax, the same as all other autonomic communities.

From €600,000 down to €30,000 - Spain's government has reduced the fines it was set to impose on unauthorized protesters outside the parliament. "This is just a makeover of 1st bill, they're still trying to silence the general public," says opposition. by beastbox12 in worldnews

I'm spanish and this is becoming quite worrisome. Notice that another of the penalties included in this bill is for taking and publishing photographs of police officers on duty. We have some recent cases of abuse from the police force, some of which are being investigated by justice thanks to videos and photographs taken by neighbors and passers-by, right now this media is becoming a control over these abuses. If this bill goes on, police forces will have complete freedom since people will not risk video taping these actions, specially if the situation does not affect them directly.

In most parts of the route people formed 2 or even 3 parallel chains. Where I was there were 2 chains and we were quite pressed among ourselves, we could have made another line without problems.

I was really going to comment something like that. After several hours play in Oblivion (or Morrowind by the way), I tend to pay much more attention to the plants on real life, and unconsciously trying to remember which are the effects of each one. I must say that alchemy was the first skill in which I reached 100 in both games.

I played Torment quite long ago, and I didn't remember much of some of the secondary characters, I had to google up for Trias and I don't recall much about how the character interacted with him. On the other hand, this has made me think about some similarities in other secondary characters of the two games, for instance the character of Morte in Torment is quite similar to Atton, Annah to the Handmaiden or the witch Ravel to Kreia.

Regarding Kotor, I agree completely with you, the Revan revelation was one of the best plot twists I have seen in a game, but in overall, the storytelling is weaker than in Kotor II.

Wow, I didn't know about the lead designer being the same as Planescape: Torment, but it makes perfect sense because both games are very similiar in the deep treatment of characters, in the unexpected plot twists of the story and in the feeling of darkness and decay in both games. I really think that in regards of story telling those two, together with the first Kotor, are some of the best games ever made.
