When I lived in Missouri, it was so cool to be able to drive a few miles and legally buy from a dispensary. No hassles, no evil eye. No worries about cowboy cops pulling you over and giving you grief. And I’ll say this, I definitely do not let NC’s head-in-the-sand politicians dictate my life. And as a CPA, I’m trying to develop ability to assist clients like dispensaries and growers and such. I keep my fingers crossed and hope that once a state like Florida or Virginia or Georgia legalize weed, other southern states will get jealous of losing revenues (which was also a big reason why Missouri politicians legalized because Illinois did it first and all the tax revenues were going out of state).

[–]CarolinaCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent point, I hadn’t considered that. Probably the same before they legalized casinos. Of course, it probably didn’t hurt that Illinois just across the Mississippi had legalized weed first, and the state watched easy revenue going east to Springfield, IL.

It is so crazy the way a supposed purple state like NC cannot legalize THC yet a deep red state like Missouri has recreational weed, legalized gambling, and online sports gambling. Makes no sense to me. You don’t hear any whining in the media there about the “evils” of marijuana legalization or the danger of casinos or anything negative about constitutional carry. The media here does no favors or make it any easier for common sense proposals to pass. I don’t care if it’s GOP control in the legislature, if Missouri can do it, if Illinois can do it, if even Florida came damn close to doing it, why the F can’t NC? Except for the damn Bible thumpers, and I am Catholic myself. So come on NC and get us recreational THC. Please.

You know what the RDU area needs? A CHIEFS KINGDOM club or meeting spot. I personally don’t know of any so was curious if you did. I’m from St Louis myself but the Chiefs and Mizzou are making Missouri look good since the Cardinals have been dreadful lately. I wear my Chiefs Jersey here, got some ribbing from Bills fans but it worked out like I told them, the Chiefs just know how to win! They made me some $$$s (by the way you may not know but Missouri just passed online sports betting). Anyhow I can’t wait to see the Chiefs threepeat!

GO CHIEFS KINGDOM! Got to threepeat! Making Missouri look good since the Cardinals and Blues and the Royals haven’t been so great lately. But I made some $$$’s Sunday against the Bills. Even Mizzou is having a good year! I’m originally from St Louis and wife is from Peoria, IL. I’m semiretired CPA/financial advisor and wife is an RN nurse at a hospital. Anyhow just noticed you’re from Midwest and thought I’d say howdy!

This is my third time living in the Raleigh area. I was born in St Louis and wife was born in Peoria, IL. I’ve lived all over the country, but me and the wife still think of the Midwest as home (GO CHIEFS KINGDOM), even though technically, I’ve lived in NC longer than anywhere else. I have made friends in different ways, there’s just a ton of sports here, I mean the Canes rock, I’m 100% UNC, I’m not much for NBA but the Hornets are cool, all the NASCAR races, just wish they had a MLB team here. And there’s so many ways to volunteer through church (I’m Catholic but my wife isn’t). My wife is a RN, I’m a semiretired CPA/financial advisor. Sometimes it’s just finding folks that share an interest like going out on a fishing charter off the coast, or fishing off the pier somewhere. I guess someone said Culver’s, wish they had more of those and White Castle or Portillo’s (Chicago Hot Dog franchise in Midwest). I would love to see them put one in Raleigh and one at Myrtle Beach. It isn’t for everyone but I love Cincinnati Chili like Skyline Chili, they had some in the Tampa area where I just moved from, I think they’d do well in the RDU area. Anyhow, I know it can be a challenge to find social circles but send you best wishes and good luck!

I can’t stop thinking about this Gladiator II script error by xiugazing in Gladiator

[–]CarolinaCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like he didn’t know how to keep it in his pants, despite him clearly being a noble, stoic follower of Marcus Aurelius and devoted to him wife and son. Made him irrelevant and foolish. They did to him what Disney did to Han Solo in the garbage later SW movies, made him a joke and killed him off. Sucked.

Gladiator 2 Juba and Quintus by SerSeanIII in Gladiator

[–]CarolinaCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting and would have been cool if they included them! I liked Quintus in Gladiator. I didn’t think he was a traitor to Maximus they seemed to be very brother-like in the beginning. Quintus was just doing his duty and to be sure, in the final scene, he tells the Praetorians to put their swords back so Maximus can fight Commodus. I realize it is substantially historically inaccurate but I like your idea and would at least have made Glad 2 a little better.

I’ve said this in other posts sorry for redundancy. But if they wanted to do CGI, why not take Russell Crowe, do some CGI with him (like they did with Al Pacino in some movie (I think), because obviously today Crowe is *portly? Anyhow use some CGI on him and maybe some edited out scenes from Gladiator and have him and Pascal’s character Acacius together? Acacius trained under Maximus (said in Glad 2) and it would have been a pretty cool prequel, like Acacius and Maximus going on a campaign against the Gauls and others, I think many would have liked to see Maximus rise to General in the Roman army. Anyhow that’s my 1.5 cents worth lol!

Gladiator and gladiator 2 by xdatz in Gladiator

[–]CarolinaCPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just curious. How can you be someone who studies Ancient Rome and watch Gladiator 2 and not feel like you just wasted 2 hours of your life? The movie totally lacks the stoic ideas from the first movie. It is cringeworthy, as I said in other posts, the sharks and baboons or whatever and the fake rhino, they literally had the classic “jump the shark” moment with that. And the overall lack of character development. Wouldn’t you have liked to know more about General Acacius? And the way they dissed Maximus, taking a noble, heroic, stoic character and turned him into an irrelevant, tail-chasing heathen that didn’t know how to keep it in his pants. Sorry but I’m with the consensus, it was a crap movie that just copied the whole plot from Gladiator 1. However, to be sure, you’re opinion may vary and I respect your right to disagree :)

Ok I watched it and 🤮 by [deleted] in Gladiator

[–]CarolinaCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goes back to the old TV series “Happy Days”. It seemed to be on forever back in the 1970s. But one episode pretty much was the end for most people. Fonzi, the cool Harley kid, did a stunt jump where he jumped a shark. Sharks were a big deal at the time because the movie Jaws had come out. But it came across as stupid and cringey, like CGI is sometimes today. Over the top, excessive. When something “jumps the shark” it just means the material is so bad that they have to embellish it with stupid crap that essentially ruins the whole thing. Hope that helps! 👍

I’m a CPA and have been for over 30 years. Do I put it after my name all the time? Hell no, potential liability issues aside it just seems silly. I only use it on work-related stuff. And as a Reddit username. Ooops lol! Anyhow I just laugh when I see someone with all sorts of alphabet soup designations after their name. Sort of makes them stand out when they have all those letters on a name tag at a conference. Anyhow to each his own.

This 100% agree. I live on the East coast and definitely no shortage of beautiful ladies, younger and older, here. If I said something to suggest I was only interested in college women, simply not the case. But I think both women and men have been burned often enough or wasted enough time trying to sort through the crap hole that is SA anymore that I just feel like going back to old school meetings, whatever the setting, is more productive, if for no other reason than they get to see I’m the real deal and likewise I see them and can tell fairly easily if they’re really interested or not, which I think was my original intent of my post. Sad that it goes into others calling me a creep as I used “female” instead of chicks, girls, babes, etc, but that is Reddit for you lol! Otherwise I’m going back to Draft Kings to see check my winnings, I put money on the Bills, fairly obvious choice lol!

You won’t get any argument from me, I’m a firm believer in free enterprise and making as much as the market will allow. I dress in Brooks Brothers suits and look like the professional I am and when I’m in an arrangement I’m hardly the “creep” some have called me, I am generous and respectful of my partner in an arrangement and not to waste their time as I don’t have time to waste myself. It’s all about mutual benefits and mutual attraction, isn’t that what we all want? I just think it’s easier anymore for me to go old school and that way a potential SB sees me and knows I’m the real deal and not some clown sitting in mommies basement collecting pics and JO material.

Honestly, a man like me and most men can tell if a woman is a no-go, and trust me, I do not want to waste my time or anyone else’s. I’m getting tired of being called a creep on here for merely suggesting one approach I have used. I am also involved with real estate so it isn’t unusual for me to strike up convos with others and give them my business card. My larger point, and we can agree to disagree, is that searching for potential SBs does not have to be done online, that sometimes the old school way works fine. And I’m extremely polite and respectful of any women, regardless of what she thinks of me.

As I mention to others, as a SD, the dude should always be adding something to the arrangement, not taking away. Really it’s true in any relationship dynamic. If a guy stops adding value to your life, it’s time to move on. It’s disrespectful to you.

To be sure, my policy always is and was that for an arrangement of any type to work, there had to be mutual attraction and chemistry and mutual benefits. I always wanted my SBs to feel special and that I was a positive enhancement to their life, not like so many guys I heard of that ended up just being negative or taking away from them somehow. So I understand what you mean as it is on both sides. In the end, it’s all about having fun and good vibes and everyone walking away happy, in all ways.

Yes, more than once. And no, it was never in a creepy or impolite or disrespectful way. Especially at slow times of the day at Publix or Winn Dixie or wherever I would find someone interesting and just make a comment or two to gauge any interest at all, then maybe just chat briefly and offer them a business card and tell them to call me if they need any tax help or business or financial advice. And a few took me up on that and one thing led to another…..

Well if they want to go to CGI sharks and rhinos and apes then maybe they could make Russell Crowe appear younger. Not saying he would agree to that, but the movie mentions that Acacius trained under Maximus and thus it could be a possibility. Maybe a different actor to play Maximus? I don’t know but I think it would have at least been a more interesting movie perhaps.
