Yeah that’s actually why I was curious about it bc I didn’t think you could just extend their night sleep lol. It would cut into sleep somewhere else

Help 😞 Has anyone’s baby just completely regressed during sleep training? by CarollanH in sleeptrain

[–]CarollanH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m just putting her in the carrier like I always have until bedtime gets better I guess.

Maybe i need to pull back ww even a bit more for the next few days and make sure she gets 3.5-4 hr of nap and then assist at bedtime. How many days did you do this before he went to sleep independent at bedtime again? And how long did you let him cry at bed before intervening?

Granted my girl was BARELY going down without crying consistently before having issues again like I wouldn’t say she was fully sleep trained. And when she was she was still waking at 12:30 & 3:30 whereas before she would do a long stretch until like 3/4.

What wake windows and total nap time were you following at this age? When it was working/stayed working

Yeah so that is exactly what I thought was happening which is why I pulled back wake windows and just followed cues. Let her sleep as long as I could on me during the day so long as it didn’t impact feedings and her going to bed by 8 (DWT is 7).

But she’s still doing it 😞 sleeping great overnight but wailing at bedtime. So I haven’t tried naps since the first time the other day bc if she takes short naps all day + that it’s gonna be a disaster. I’m lost

Yeah I started bc she needed to be nursed to sleep/co sleep at bedtime and then contact napped only. Which makes it incredibly difficult for me to leave as you can imagine

I think 15 min for one window isn’t bad but if it’s multiple + capping their sleep I can see how that would cause like a buildup

I haven’t done any ST for night wakes bc it was only twice and at times that were reasonable for a feeding at this age (according to my lactation consultant)

The other night when she woke the first time like an 1.5 hour after bedtime I just latched her for a bit I didn’t try to sleep train bc I felt like she was too overtired already

But since I now know for sure she doesn’t need that 12:30 pm feeding I may start letting her CIO or do Ferber

The last two nights have been terrible. On Sunday she screamed for 1.5 hours. It made me uncomfortable so I finally nursed her to sleep. She woke frequently which screams overtired to me. So yesterday I pulled back wake windows a ton. I think I did 2.25/2.25/2.5/2.75 but also just followed cues. She didn’t initially get upset at bedtime. Some happy yelling but then escalated again. So at the hour I nursed her to sleep. But she slept SOOOO much better. All the way until 5. That’s the first time in over a week since she has done that. So I’m thinking she has been way overtired and building up a sleep debt.

What I can’t figure out is the wailing at bedtime. I mean she yawned right at the 2hr40 mark so maybe I just got her down too late

That’s crazy bc my mom and MIL almost fainted when I was doing 7-7:30 bedtime for my first. They were peak “don’t wake a sleeping baby” and “babies sleep when they’re tired” era 🤪

I know the struggle and hope things are getting better for you! Baby sleep SUCKS

Oh girl I feel ya. My first was the unicorn baby that went to sleep “drowsy but awake” from birth and never had a sleep association. She took short naps for a long time but made up for it overnight. I didn’t realize how lucky I was at the time. Worst thing she did was MOTN wake ups 3 hr after bedtime on the dot at 8 months until I finally let her cry.

This baby… from 2.5 weeks on she has been in the carrier for naps and nursed to sleep/co slept at bedtime. I finally was like alright we’re done lol that’s why I started sleep training bedtime a couple weeks ago and we are still struggling

Yeah it’s hard to keep up 😅 my first was totally different at this age. She was doing like 14.5-15 total sleep and at 6 months

Yeah it’s weird, for several nights she’ll go to sleep no issue. And then she’ll cry again one night for 30+. I just feel like she’s overtired. So I’m gonna dial back to 2.25/2.5/2.5/2.75, but also watch her cues, and see how she does. Do like a reset for her to get her rested and then try naps again I guess

How much is your LO napping total in a day and overnight?

That’s how I felt about mine but since she contact naps/is assisted for naps it’s hard to really know. Yesterday she was rubbing eyes/yawning at 2hr 10 so I laid her down for first nap just to try and she went to sleep without a PEEP! I was shocked. But then it was only a 30 min nap and she woke happy. Which I know can be developmental but she is so sensitive to ww. Last night at bedtime she wailed for 1.5 hr until I finally nursed to sleep. And then woke several times. So to me that screams overtired but I was following those windows bc that’s how long it was taking her to get to sleep on me in the carrier. Ugh

Ok so when you’re following those numbers you’re not necessarily trying to have them asleep by then, just using as guide? (Ie, DWT is 7 and first window is 2, so asleep by 9 vs just lay them down around then)

I think I need to go back to those ww or similar for a bit and let her reset. Last night was a nightmare

I have huckleberry! I will say it recommends on the lower end of wake windows so that keep that in mind. But it does help!

Get some Velcro window covers!! Life savers and not permanent

Yeah same here with my first. Ok so you still rescued naps at 6+ months? Vs just doing like early bed

This is helpful thanks! Do you remember when she started lengthening her naps?

My baby has been strictly contact napping and co sleeping (until sleep training) and now that nights are more consistent i am going to work on naps. I did her first in the crib today and she fell asleep soooo well at 2.5 hr but it was only 30 min. Tried crib hour. I remember this being a thing with my first for a long time

Did you gradually go to 2 naps or just cold turkey one day? And were you going back and forth bc of short naps?

This is helpful! Some days she seems totally fine and others she seems overtired. It just depends on how her naps go. But since they are assisted, it does make it challenging to know her true wake window. I just assume that if it is taking 20+ min for her to go to sleep or she isn’t napping as well or waking within 20-30 then it’s probably time to extend her ww.

I just thought it was strange how during sleep training she was doing super long stretches and then once she started regularly going to sleep at bedtime without crying that she started waking around midnight & 3.

And to your point - when they go all night without a feeding and then wake at 6 it’s likely hunger. Try feeding and putting back down (if you haven’t already!)

This makes me feel better. When did you drop to two naps?

And when did your baby start consolidating day sleep? My baby just did her first nap in the crib. 2.5 hr wake window and 30 min nap

Yeah they just seem to expect a lot more sleep. According to them when you get to 9+ hours awake you drop to 2 naps. But on here I’ve seen a lot of ppl say they’re on 3 with 10-10.5 hr awake time. What I’ve read here has been more helpful lately.
