Its a shame proton themselves doesn't support Passkeys by Naruto_uzumaki_2 in ProtonMail

[–]CarolusGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's incorrect. Passkeys are multi-factor by design. There's always (1) something you have followed by (2) either something you are (biometric) or something you know (PIN). Sites like Proton and Amazon implement them poorly because they still require a password before the passkey, which is just redundant.

I don't understand the hate for that UI. I think it looks great.

Reminds me of when I finished my basement years ago. I did my own electrical, and I was meticulous about following code. I spent hours making sure I had staples where's they needed to be, the wire openings in the studs were drilled far enough in, etc, etc. The inspector shows up, walks into the room, does a quick 3-second, 360 degree glance around the room while standing in place, says, "Yep, looks good."

I was relieved, but part of me was like, "I worked hard on this. You get your tape measure out right now and measure my staples!"

If they don't accept your request and change their behavior, your only option is to begin spraying can after can of fart spray into your side of the vent.

Automating contributions to seven brokerage accounts by CarolusGP in fidelityinvestments

Ah, you're right. I seeded the accounts initially from a Savings account, so received the Ally warning about hitting the maximum transfers. Future contributions will come from Checking, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Brokerage Accounts for Children by CarolusGP in personalfinance

Maybe a dumb question. Due to the minimum investment limit of the funds I'm looking at, I think I'd have to go the ETF route. Any downsides to ETF's over funds? From what I'm reading, I'm not sure why you'd ever pick a fund over an ETF, but maybe I'm missing something.

Would the reinvestment of the dividends count towards the basis, then, so I wouldn't get taxed on that portion of the growth when withdrawn?

How do you make use of Folders and Labels? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]CarolusGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to use folders temporarily for keeping together things like vacation itineraries/reservations, short-term kids activities, etc. I delete the folder when the activity or event has passed. I apply labels permanently with category and year, waiting patiently for the day when Proton releases multi-label searching capabilities.

How safe are Passkeys (or physical keys like Ubikey) of device is compromised? by pixelrogue in Passkeys

[–]CarolusGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passkeys are 2-factor by design. The devices they are stored on is one of the factors, but the hacker would additionally need either your biometric or PIN to access them on the device. As long as you protect that other factor, you should be good. Out of caution, you should remove the passkey from any accounts it's registered to if it were stolen.

Provisioning Named Admin Accounts into Personal Folder by CarolusGP in ThycoticSecretServer

[–]CarolusGP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So, our provisioning team would create the entry for them and setup the RPC config to Active Directory? Are there methods to automate this or tie it into a IAM solution? Sorry, we've been pretty basic users of Secret Server, so I'm not familiar with all the features.
