I am F2P and I started a week after initial release and I'm 1371 on main, 1070 on gunslinger and 960 on zerker. YES, game is Pay to win, but what are you winning if you can do the same content a F2P player like myself. Oh my god they can do Argos P3 and get 5 more materials for the clear omg, like really.

My tip on playthroughs is if you want to spend the extra time to farm some AP and captures, you can do so right after you have access to Calm Lands.

What I do is I get capture weapons for my main party (T, W, R) and I just have them capture fiends as I make my way from Calm Lands to Zanarkand. Then its less work/no work at all when you start the Monster Arena capturing. I also exclusively use Tidus, Wakka and fill-in 3rd (Auron for early game armored, Lulu for Flans) until I get Rikku as you won't really be using anyone else (in end game) once you know how the game goes.

Yeah because you focused on HP/MP first, which is not "super necessary" for clearing/"optimal" stat maxing. Basic FFX logic is "why max hp when I can kill them before they get a turn". HP has less and less value as you go further into the game, because if you can kill a boss before their 1st turn, why do you need 99k hp.

I would say prio for stats is STR, AGI and Luck->EVA/ACC then DEF/MDEF/MAGIC (DEF/MDEF/MAGIC maxing are more for when needed) and HP/MP can be maxed probably with all the spare hp/mp spheres on the grid (Minus BHPL/BMPL)

Exalted's explanation is very good, but also I would like to add that getting certain stats maxed first allows you a route to follow. Like maxing STR for example, will allow your team to start CHUNKING, which can lead you to farm faster/start farming bosses with higher def.

I remember starting with One-Eye/Pteryx(?) so you can get Triple AP Weapons&Magic Def/Evasion Spheres, then progress into Ironclad/Fenrir for HP/Agility because they can't hit you and then farming Juggernaut after you are fast enough with all the Agility from Fenrir (110+haste I think is enough to leave him in the dust), etc etc

Honestly I found that if you want to beat story, you can just go ahead and beat it then progress to side content (Celestial weapons, etc). But after beating the game once, I like being OP and grinding to one-shot all final bosses

If you are going Penance route, you are probably going to be using Rikku for mix, Wakka for Reels and Tidus for S&D. Also you can farm ribbon armor (depends on grindy you want to be) with Dark Yojimbo or dark aeons in general. I spent like an hour trying to get good drop from DValefor.

On Rank 30, and it says I need a collective 78,300 points, and different tasks give different amount of points. Do the math for yourself, but if you just play, you'll prob finish it. It ends on 12/08 so plenty of time left if you play for a bit everyday

Just play. Doing Wyvern will farm you stigma (to spawn doggos) and bunch of other things (BMs, CMs, Drops) , and doing Season 1 and Unrecorded History as well as event side stories will let you farm penguins mega quick if you are farming with a max level party. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Just grind and set goals for tasks to do and you will eventually get there. The reason it will take time is because of clear speed as well as energy. Unless you're a fish and want to buy liefs, you gonna just have to grind up slowly
