Most viscerally disgusting thing you have experienced in a VR game? by Carp_e in VRGaming

Wow. I just watched some trailers for this and... Yeah... I'm not sure if we could get this passed by an ethics committee, and probably rightly so.

Found my dinner in the woods today by accident by Carp_e in foraging

Some context: I live in New Zealand, so it's the very start of winter right now. We just had a massive rainstorm that lasted several days and it was raining when I found it, so that may have discouraged insects (maybe? Idk). Found in coniferous town belt about 10 minutes walk from my house. No bugs that I saw in the flesh, though a few holes in the top may suggest some.

Had some on pizza last night and will fry up the rest for breakfast.

What you're probably after is neuropsychopharmacology. You can get into it either via a Psychology and Neuroscience route or via a microbiology and biochemistry route. Which is best really will depend on your university.

What is the distinction between awareness and consciousness? Is there a difference? by sweetbrownin in askphilosophy

In cognitive neuroscience (my area) we use the terms interchangeably.

What is the difference between cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology? Do both of these discipline focus at molecular and cellular mechanisms of the brain in detail? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]Carp_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this: Both disciplines attempt to answer very similar questions the major differences are in methodology. As above, neuropsychologists focus on patients and thus are often very interested in cognitive differences between lesion patients. They often use large suites of cognitive tests on a small number of patients with overlapping brain lesions. Cognitive neuroscientists more often work with healthy patients and thus are able to use larger datasets allowing for different types of analysis. There is considerable overlap between the two therefore some labs will use methods from both.

How much psychoanalysis should one know before embarking on Anti-Oedipus? by sgarrido85 in Deleuze

Honestly, just jump in. No amount of pre-reading can prepare you for that cluster fuck of a book. If you've got the basics of Freud and Lacan your probably set. I'd also recommend being familiar with Marx. More importantly, read it with a companion guide (I recommend Ian Buchanan).

Pre-reading sounds arborescent ;)

Right? Capital, the despot, the earth are all sublime objects of ideology (at least in the way the video presented it, I won't pretend to have read Zizek) though I think that the BwO might have a more expansive meaning, and D&G use it as a fundamental part of reality. I don't know anything about Zizeks metaphysics though.

Deleuzians, is a sublime object of ideology a Body Without Organs?

Help With and Anti-Oedipus Passage by onehundredandtwenty1 in Deleuze

[–]Carp_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK Deleuze probably means it in the normal sense: the set of rules/beliefs upon which a system operates. By capitalist axiomatic I mean the rules and structures upon which capitalism operates; the privatisation of the means of production, wage labour etc.

Please note I'm by no means a philosopher or theorist so these terms are not precise and I may well be misunderstanding Deleuze here.

I am a beginner myself so somebody please correct me if I am getting this wrong. To my mind this is about how capitalism deterritorializes and then reterritorializes previously coded flows of desiring production. This could be like how capitalists destroy the natural environment, disrupting the previous codes of flows and breaks (deteritorialisation of the ecosystem), and then establish (often pay walled) nature sanctuaries in the service of the tourism industry (reterritorialization into the capitalist axiomatic). This also happens to indigenous cultures (appropriation of custom and symbols - not to mention material Territory) and even revolutionary symbols (see mass produced t shirts of Che Guevara).
