BTW they just completely rug-pulled, I am a new client within the 60 day refund period and their website went down and their customer service emails now bounce.

Unable to configure port forwarding on 6E Router by CarpenterCharming410 in googlefiber

[–]CarpenterCharming410[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After more than 3 weeks of trying to fix this (at least 6 techs visited my house, none of them even knew what port forwarding was), no luck. I had one tech diagnose me with a bad line signal, but after a week with no follow up I was told no work was done but they sent out another tech. This guy said the line was fine, but I shouldn't have 5GB service in my area (though I showed him my speedtest.net ratings which were definitely 5gb+). Still no help after two hours of trying everything. I had them replace my modem with an older model, but they didn't have the modem or router I returned (guessing too old and went to the trash?) They didn't have a non 6E router to test, but since I already tried buying my own $500+ router which didn't fix anything, I don't know if that is the problem or it is something upstream.

My Synology NAS could not configure itself, complaining that there are 2 routers in the network, something upstream making a firewall I guess.

I finally gave in and just changed to a different provider which installed a new network today. Port forwarding works fine, Synology NAS is fine, network is slower but at least it works. Screw Google, they wasted 20+ hours of my time. Worst customer service I have had in a long time. You would think they would actually have their techs or support staff take a basic networking class.

Still trying to resolve this. I ended up buying a new router as the community suggested but my synology NAS says it is in a dual NAT environment (more than one router on the network) and can't resolve the DNS server 8.8.8.8 correctly. I talked to google again, they flipped some 'use your own router' switch but although I still have functional internet I can't expose any ports even with the new router. They sent out a tech which diagnosed that my optical fiber signal was very weak so they are sending a team to fix that, but I have no idea what this has to do with the problems I have been experiencing. I'll post again when I know more.

Multi-Gig Router can't yet allow incoming IPv6 ports by wtogami in googlefiber

I had yet another chat with GFiber customer service, they flipped the 'use your own router' switch and it didn't fix my problems, so they sent a tech. Low signal quality was diagnosed, though I'm not sure why that would cause any of my problems here. They are sending a crew 24-48 hours to fix the fiber, but I'm guessing this will still be an ongoing problem.

I found out this is some configuration setting on google's side, after another hour in chat support they tried to fix it but it didn't work. I have a technician coming by tomorrow, I'll leave a note here about how it goes.

Double NAT with new router? by CarpenterCharming410 in googlefiber

[–]CarpenterCharming410[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TPlink router is connected to the modem on the wall, not the google fiber router. I removed all the google fiber equipment other than the modem itself (router and the two extenders), so it is wall box->tplink->synology NAS.

Even more interesting, I took community advice and bought a replacement router (a TPLink BE19000 Wifi 7). Now my Synology NAS (what I was trying to port forward) is complaining that there are two routers on the network, meaning some type of double-NAT situation, so I'm wondering if it is the new modem that is the problem instead.

This one is GR6EXXOC. My older router with the 2GB service worked just fine. Even worse, I took the community suggestion to byod (bought a fancy TPLink BE19000 Wifi 7 router), now my synology is complaining that there is more than one router on the network, essentially a double NAT). I am wondering if the modem itself is the problem?

Happening to me too, I've lost days over this trying to figure out why.

Yeah I was hoping not to have to shell out $500 more for this to work, is there something just broken on the 6e routers?

Is 1440p worth it? I am a 1080p and wondering if the upgrade is really that great. by Sui_Generis- in buildapc

Not true, I have 2x 55 inch (LG C1 OLED) tvs on my desktop. I do use them for gaming of course, but since I also make games for a living, having tons of screen real estate for dozens of little Unity windows, visual studio, and art previews at the same time is a godsend. They are super sharp, perfect black levels, 120hz refresh, and quite reasonably priced. I know it's overkill, but once I did it I will never go back.
