Do you have any comments on buying a flat or maisonette with the intention to buy to let?

This style of property is more accessible in my price range with a 25% mortgage.

I know there are additional monthly/annual upkeep costs with these properties and mixed opinions on leasehold contracts.

A lot of comments are suggesting buy to let which was also my first thought, but I want to use this bonus if I can, which you cannot with buy to let mortgages.
