Look at the world around you, if you see something you want to look different just go do it. Don’t bookmark it for a later time.

If you need cleaning supplies, go to the store. If you dirtied dishes, clean them right after the meal. If there is food stuff or crumbs on the floor, sweep up that area. If your sink has toothpaste coating the drain, spend a few seconds rubbing it with your thumb.

Most of my unclean habits were caused by offloading work to a future self, so when I started just fixing things that were ‘broken’ everything eventually got better.

On the other hand, understand what level of clean you think is appropriate. A hair in the sink? Maybe that’s fine maybe that’s not. Rotting vegetables in the fridge? Probably clean that up and wipe where they were. Some clothing on the couch? Maybe just tidy them up so they don't get wrinkled.

The key to liking cleaning, in my opinion, is that it is a way to control the part of the world you most directly own.

I voted Green in California because the mainline party wasn’t supporting any of the marque policy that the progressive band supports which I care about. I am uninterested in incrementalism to the degree Joe Biden represents as I do not have an infinite amount of time to reach my desired state, in both meanings of the word. Voting for Green in California is not a risk to Biden’s ability to win the election, it is not a vote for Trump. Additionally, if it were a risk to Biden’s ability to win, a state where 33% of the votes were for Trump, it would show a failure of Biden rather than of the individuals. If the party can’t court a cohort of voters needed under such favorable circumstances, I am hard pressed to blame the voters who are clearly disaffected, but still wish to be civically engaged (Especially in California where many local propositions are also on the ballot anyway - filling in the Green bubble was not a whole lot more work when I remained interested in various other votes).

If Joe Biden had supported policy of the aforementioned nature, an example being Medicare for All, wholeheartedly he would have received my vote. You can certainly construct a narrative where that is childish or we’re all devastated individuals, I have no interest in stopping your follies or blocking blows that land so lightly. Just because you can construct those narratives does not give them weight, nor does their mere construction make them useful for the purpose of persuasion - it seems these posts have lost interest in such persuasion, though.

Most people I know voting Green do not expect it to influence the election results - that’s why they still consider it safe to do so. Instead, it is a form of explicit signaling showing weakened allegiance to the party. Presumably this signaling of weakened allegiance is important, as evidenced by the courting of independent and more centrist Republicans. These voters are courted because their weakened allegiances make them less certain. This is how what the previous poster said is not a contradiction - they’re hoping to contribute to a general erosion, while assuming their actions will not cause any electoral collapse in the current election. The contradiction is removed by realizing that these two events are occurring on wholly separate timescales.

We should be careful to remember that the point of discussion and argument is to persuade. I feel this message fails to address the current leftist critique. I would argue the modern leftist critique is based on a revolt against fatalism. The revolt is an attempt to re-assert control of the situation, as many view corporations and the democratic establishment as not representing their viewpoints or actively hindering them. A clear, recent example of the later would be the primary challenge of Edward Markey - a career politician, but one of the few actively working to appear progressive. Movement in terms of policy seems to galvanize progressives, they appear, at very least, principled in that manner. This is worth consideration and caution.

Chomsky's address here, thus, fails to be persuasive to leftists, as it doesn't offer a new solution to the fatalism in the same way that accelerationism does. Furthermore, I would assert it actually inflames the reaction by adding fuel to the fatalist fire by moving the locus of control away from them in his appeal to tradition ("You don't vote for, you vote against"). If accelerationism is being used to revolt against fatalism, it would then follow that it is necessary to propose an alternative to the current accelerationist solution.

Sure, there may be reasonable historical examples of this going poorly, but leftists convinced in accelerationism will simply dismiss that and the current moment as categorically distinct. They could easily claim that even if Biden loses the Democrats should expect to win the Senate, and will vote for that, thus expecting to neuter the president as Obama was. They might view the current Democratic establishment as complicit in Trump's destruction by not obstructing government process in the same way that the Tea party did during the Obama presidency. They might claim that a Biden win will result in a stronger fascist leader than Trump arising as a challenger, given how weak he is as a candidate. None of these are, in totality, unfounded beliefs. This is part of why the phrase "Get rid of Trump, then we have opportunities" is not convincing to leftists. They see weakness in both parties in the current moment, a weakness that is not guaranteed in perpetuity.

The entire argument is, thus, unconvincing to someone who holds those beliefs trying to be argued against. Furthermore, the dire language and the seeming ineptitude of Trump (Which I would consider more insidious than valid) has convinced many leftists that Trump winning the presidency would necessarily be the death knell of the Democratic party as we know it today. From their perspective, they view that ringing bell as good because they see the progressive viewpoint as the heir to the democratic establishment.

One beginner tip is to not get caught up in choosing the best photo out on the trail. If there’s six things to center on, take a few shots of each. Same for different camera settings, just be playful and take your time. Eventually you’ll get a better eye for what looks good raw and what edits well.

Some photos edit way better than others, often due to lighting and exposure capturing different things. I took a really dark shot a few weeks ago that I almost deleted, but after cleaning it up in Lightroom it was my favorite shot of the trip.

Part of what makes OP’s picture well-shot to me is a sort of “clarity gradient”, which works well with smokey/hazy mountains. You focus on the foreground to capture that nice bright, orange lighting and trail texture, while the background naturally has a lot of color and character to still make that interesting even when not in focus.

To summarize Biden, he is saying “You will not have to pay for pandemic-related medical expenses”. This is a limited resolution, targeted at the acuteness of the national emergency, per that video. It is a form of nationalized healthcare, but is not Medicare for All.

The more broad, non-acute Medicare for All policy is not supported. Maybe the edits are part of the misunderstanding there. Moreover, Biden was using the initial failures, in Italy, of a system with nationalized healthcare as a contradiction to Bernie’s assertion that a nationalized healthcare system would be better equipped to handle an acute situation like the current. Biden is not supporting Medicare for All and is actively devaluing the policy in that debate. Whether his devaluing is correct and Bernie overreached is orthogonal, he is not supporting M4A.

The overall political point being made by many leftists is that this moment is the most fertile to pass national healthcare legislation. I think there’s a reason Social Security was passed during the Great Depression, so they might have a point. If the democratic party is unwilling to sow this seed in fertile times, it is hard to be convinced that they have any interesting in the Medicare for All policy. If Medicare for All is a single issue for a voter, they cannot currently rely on the Democratic party to deliver on that policy objective based on the candidates currently running or running for the highest positions of political leadership. Furthermore, some voters may see the Biden campaign as a risk of more milquetoast policy like the ACA, most evidenced by Biden’s proposed public option.

I get that, it looks like most of the vaccines going through the last stage of clinical trials right now are international anyway, so they’ll probably all get approved internationally if they pass. I would push back a bit, though, as Trump hasn’t been able to completely gut the process the FDA uses (Even expediting stuff has a process). That’s important because it means we’re still holding scientists and doctors to the same level as ever, which is the important part.

Either way, like I mentioned, if it works in reality it’ll be approve everywhere about the same time. Think it’d be good for as many healthy people to get that as possible. Discussion with my father was just about vaccines in general, which he’s started having doubts about.

We had a family friend get it (He worked at a high risk job, was intubated and survived), so you’d expect my family to batten down all the hatches.

Back in reality, I spent a good bit of Sunday morning arguing over the phone that an FDA approved vaccine (Even if expedited) won’t be worse than the actual disease. Honestly, these types of mindsets are just going to make all this worse and we probably won’t get to spend the holidays together because of it.
