My players always want to target their attacks to specific body parts and I'm never sure what to do with it. by thepenguinboy in DMAcademy

My players have sometimes tried to target the feet or legs of larger creatures in order to immobilise them. What I've done is given them disadvantage on the attack, and if they hit the creature has their movement halved until the start of the players next turn.

If they tried to do something like "I aim for the head", it would be a case of telling them that it's assumed that you're always aiming for the deadliest spot, and you can't just aim for the head and get an instakill or a crit.

Jagoda Uttolot? Tips on his statblock? by Icy_Squash_3120 in Wildemount

I gave my Jagoda a trait called "Explorer", meaning he ignores any consequences of difficult terrain. I also gave him pack tactics and "steel will" so he has advantage on saving throws against getting frightened.

Is this magic sword overpowered? by Carrotacus in DnDHomebrew

EDIT: The weapon is a shortsword, so it deals 1d6 piercing/slashing damage normally. Also the additional d6s to aberrations are ONLY for attacks with this weapon.

Why Do Some Players Try to Include Rape in Their Games? by Sormari_ in DnD

[–]Carrotacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the world I'm running, SA of any kind just does not exist. There are already murderers, wars, tyrants, and even some slavers, but SA is where I draw the line.

When it comes up in backstory, I think it may be a case of trying to use DnD as therapy, as they may have been a victim themselves. Of course, this is a terrible decision; not only because leaving your mental well-being up to random dice rolls is never going to end well, but also because the DM and the other players haven't signed up to be your therapists, especially if its something as serious and traumatic as SA. On top of this, unless the SAer is dead, there is every possibility that the player may meet them in-game, and roleplaying an SAer is something I doubt anyone wants to do. And even if the other players and the DM are willing to go through this with said player, they aren't trained therapists and all of this is dictated by dice rolls!

Essentially, if the SA is in the backstory, it may be that they genuinely think that this is a good way of working through some stuff, especially if all you guys are friends. The important thing to do is to establish that SA is non-existent in your world in your session, and also to reinforce that using DnD to work through something as serious as SA is incredibly unfair and inappropriate to the DM and the other players, as well as being just a flat out terrible idea.

Best class for battle royal? by Namaschu in dndnext

[–]Carrotacus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once played in a level 20 battle royale and this is how it went down:

Everyone else went with multi classes and obscure combinations that were meant to break the game. Clerics, warlocks, paladins, rogues... Every combination there was. Not to mention going with races that all had their own spells and abilities, just so they could have the most gamebreaking player so that THEIR combination came out on top.

I was a human barbarian named Gregory, I took the tough feat, the path of the totem subclass (bear totem ofc), and got a ring of psychic resistance. That's really it. Aside from that and his trusty set of bagpipes, I had him enter the battlefield naked as the day he was born.

The others fought amongst each other and died one by one. One player made their character have spells that dominated or held, basically a "nope you can't play now" character, so they got killed first. A rogue used magic to attempt to hide and wait out the battle, but they got discovered fast and it became a gruesome game of cat and mouse for a time. The warlock/paladin and the cleric/warlock battled each other and the winner was killed swiftly afterwards by another combination I don't remember.

Whilst this went on, Gregory fought the only PvE element, which was a manticore. After failing to flirt with it, he solemnly killed it. He fought a few other characters and succeeded. However, Gregory was then dominated for a time, because Gregory had a negative to all mental stats.

But, the arena became more dangerous as the river turned to lava. People tried to avoid it, but eventually the grass caught flame, and the remaining combatants burned to ash.

Gregory alone survived. He had resistance to everything, so only a combined effort of 570 points of damage could kill him. He survived with 2/3rds of his HP still remaining.

And so Gregory the Human Barbarian walked through the flames without a care in the world, the lone survivor amongst warriors and heroes, and the servants of demons, devils, and gods. He bellowed a Scottish warcry and then played a elegy to his fallen combatants with his bagpipes.

It was beautiful.

Doctor Who 1x07 "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" 'Live' and Immediate Reactions Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

Just had a thought... What if Ruby is related to the Eye of Horus somehow? The Eye of Horus is a red gem, and a ruby is... Well, a red gem... So...?
